Tejada TKOs Bermudez in Argentina

In a scheduled nine round main event, super lightweight Andres Ramon Tejada (9-1-2, 2 KOs) knocked out countryman Jorge Abel Bermudez (7-2, 3 KOs) in round three to win the vacant WBA Fedbol title on Saturday night at the Complejo Termal Vertiente de la Concordia, Concordia, Entre Rios, Argentina.

Tejada was down in round one but came back in round two. Tejada surprised Bermudez in round three with a standard 1-2 combination that sent Bermudez crashing to the canvas. He beat the count but immediately fell face first into the ropes by himself. He appeared out on his feet and without balance. The referee correctly waved the fight off immediately. Super lightweight Nicolas “Nico” Demario (14-4-2, 8 KOs) scored an explosive third round KO over Lucas Rojas (3-5-1, 0 KOs) on Saturday night in Argentina on a card promoted by Chino Maidana Promotions in association with the WBA. It was a good action fight until a devastating Demario right hand put Rojas on his back for several minutes. Ultimately Rojas recovered and appeared to be OK.

In the co-feature, middleweight Francisco “El Bebu” Veron (3-0, 3 KOs) won by second round TKO over Dario Carrizo (1-5-1, 1 KO).

Middleweight Alexis “El Terrible” Torres moved to 3-0, 3 KOs) after a sixth round TKO against pro-debuting Daniel Zavala.

Arslan, 50, knocks out Perdomo in three

50-year-old former WBA cruiserweight champion First Arslan (48-9-3, 33 KOs) returned to the ring on Saturday night with a third round KO against 43-year-old former world title challenger Gusmyr Perdomo (26-10, 17 KOs) at the Sportschule Firat Arslan in Göppingen, Germany. Perdomo was busier, but Arslan’s harder punches were “moving” Perdomo. A crushing Arslan left hook to the liver in round three collapsed Perdomo and put him down for the count.

Unbeaten female super welterweight Claressa Shields (11-0, 2 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-1, 0 KOs) to become undisputed WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO 154lb women’s world champion on Friday night in front of 375 fans at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan. Shields stalked Dicaire relentlessly in a one-sided fight. Scores were 100-90 3x. Shields was previously undisputed women’s champion at middleweight. She says she’ll now move to MMA in the summer.

“I can’t be mad about my performance,” said Shields after the bout. “She just kept elbowing and headbutting me. I tried for the knockout and I almost had it a couple times, but we’ve got two minutes and the ref not breaking it up when she’s holding me and elbowing me. I’m happy but I still wanted the knockout. I just didn’t have enough time. Unbeaten cruiserweight Robin Sirwan Safar (11-0, 8 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over journeyman Demetrius Banks (10-10-1, 5 KOs) in the final round.

Unbeaten featherweight prospect Dominique Francis (9-0, 6 KOs) of Miami, Florida impressively defeated Jayron Lopez (7-7-1, 5 KOs) over six rounds. Unbeaten WBA 108-pound super champ Hiroto Kyoguchi (14-0, 9 KOs), Japan, has left for Dallas TX today (Friday) to participate in his first abroad to defend his belt against Mexican #10 Aragon Vegas (14-3-1, 8 KOs) at the American Airlines Center on March 13.

Looks like Top Rank will venture outside of the bubble on April 24.

ESPN is planning to air a show headlined by WBO featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete (33-1, 28 KOs) against former title challenger Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz (26-2, 16 KOs). The bout will take place in Kissimmee, Florida, probably at the Osceola Heritage Park Events Center. All Star Boxing is staging a show there tonight with 50% capacity. If TR is feeling ambitious, there is also an 11,400-seat indoor arena at the same complex.

Super middleweight terror Edgar Berlanga, 16-0 with 16 first round knockouts, is slated to face Demond Nicholson (23-3-1, 20 KOs) in the co-feature.

“Contender” winner, former world title challenger, and current WBC #7 at middleweight Brandon “The Cannon” Adams (22-4, 14 KOs) scored a spectacular eighth round KO over previously unbeaten WBC #7, IBF #9 super welterweight Serhii “El Flako” Bohachuk (18-1, 18 KOs) on Thursday night in an outdoor ring erected outside the Felix Pintor Gym in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Bohachuk appeared headed to victory when Adams exploded a left hook on his chin and dropped him to end it. At the time of the stoppage Adams was behind 69-63, 68-64, 68-64. Time was 2:47.

Middleweight John “The Phenom” Vera Jr. (20-1, 12 KOs) scored a strange first round KO over Cleotis Pendarvis (21-8-2, 9 KOs) on Thursday night at the Biloxi Conference Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. Bizarre ending as Pendarvis jabbed to the body, then suddenly turned away and went to his knees where he was counted out. Looked like a hand injury for Pendarvis. Time was 1:38.

Super featherweight Bryan Chevalier (15-1, 12 KOs) scored a third round KO over Carlos Zambrano (26-2, 11 KOs) on the Adams-Bohachuk undercard Thursday night in an outdoor ring erected outside the Felix Pintor Gym in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Chevalier dropped Zambrano in round one, then floored him two times more in round three to end it. Impressive performance. Time was 2:21.

Junior welterweight Danielito Zorrilla (15-0, 11 KOs) won an eight round split technical decision over Ruslan Madiyev (13-2, 5 KOs). Zorrilla got off to a good start. Madiyev was deducted a point for hitting behind the head in round five. Madiyev took over after that. Zorilla went down after another shot behind the head in round eight. He remained on the canvas for several minutes, then indicated he couldn’t continue. The bout went to the cards. Zorrilla was up 77-75, 77-74 on two cards with Madiyev up 76-73 on the third card. The bout was for the NABO title.

Super middleweight Fernando Vargas, Jr., son of El Feroz, moved to 2-0, 2 KOs with a first round blowout of Salome Flores Torres (0-3). Torres down twice.
