Two more fights have been added the big card announced yesterday headlined by WBO junior featherweight king Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete vs. Francisco “Panchito” Horta on December 7 at Auditorio GNP Seguros in Puebla, Mexico.

In the co-feature, Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas will make the eighth defense of his IBF junior bantamweight world title against Chilean veteran Miguel “Aguja” Gonzalez. The opening bout will showcase three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga against Alfredo Mejia Vargas in an eight-round featherweight bout.

It’s official. WBO jr featherweight world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, will be making his third defense in five months on December 7 at the 10,000+ seat Auditorio GNP Seguros in the city of Puebla (about two hours east of Mexico City). Navarrete (29-1, 25 KOs) will defend against WBO #13 rated Francisco “Panchito” Horta (20-3-1, 10 KOs).

Female super bantamweight Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (14-2, 4 KOs) is ready both physically and mentally to become the first female world champion born in the state of Chihuahua. Mercado challenges WBC world champion Fatuma Zarika (32-12-2, 17 KOs) at the Poliforo in the city of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, México. The bout is a rematch. Last year in Kenya, Zarika beat Mercado by split decision. This time the bout is on Mercado’s turf.

Zarika was scheduled to arrive with her team Monday night in Mexico City, where they’ll spend the night and travel to the Chihuahua area in the morning. Both fighters will show their skills in an open workout on Wednesday.

At Friday’s weigh-in, both WBC super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt (36-1, 32 KOs) and Jason “Canito” Sosa (23-3-4, 16 KOs) looked fit and determined for tonight’s clash on ESPN from the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

In a war, WBO light flyweight champion Elwin “La Pulga” Soto (16-1, 11 KOs) retained his title by razor-thin unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Edward “The Heneral Fighting” Heno (14-1-5, 5 KOs) on Thursday night at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Heno dropped an off-balance Soto in round three. Most rounds were close and all were hard-fought. Soto rallied down the stretch to pull it out 114-113, 115-112, 115-112. This was Soto’s first defense of his world title.

“I felt I need to throw more punches,” said Soto afterward. “I won the early rounds, and I won the later rounds. But there were some rounds in the middle where he beat me. Either way, I won the fight, and I’m ready for anyone. I just want to keep fighting, no matter who it is.”

WBO flyweight champion Elwin “Pulga” Soto (15-1, 11 KOs) will make his first defense on Thursday, October 24 in Indio, California, and will have a tough challenger in undefeated Filipino southpaw Edward “Heneral Fighting” Heno (14-0-5, 5 KOs).

Aguilar dropped Cuadrado with a left to the jaw. Cuadrado managed to regain his feet, but was ruled in no condition to continue. Time was 2:58.

Mercado-Zarika rematch set for Nov 9

On November 9, Zanfer presents a female world title card at the Polyforum in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. Super featherweight Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (14-2, 4 KOs) challenges WBC world champion Fatuma Zarika (32-12-2, 17 KOs) in the main event. The bout is a rematch with Zarika having defeated Mercado by split decision last year in Nairobi. She will be making her fourth world title defense.
