Estrada outworked Villarino to win 100-90 3x.

Estrada stated, “It’s been an emotional week for me because it’s been 328 days since I’ve been in the ring. And I just want to tell all girls and all women in sports to always believe in yourself and always believe in what you can do and always go after what you want. I might’ve been slowed down, but I can’t be stopped. This is what I was born to do. This is the talent God has given me, and this is my destiny and you cannot stop destiny.”

After the fight, Edwards said, “If I can sit there and mix it with him, and I showed that I could ride shots, take shots and throw my own shots back, I could do it against anyone. He was a very hard puncher, but I would not be denied. I want the big fights. Martinez, he’s running scared. Bam Rodriguez, you promised me the fight next. Come and get it!”

Glanton: I am going to melt this guy

Unbeaten WBO top-ten ranked cruiserweights Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton (17-0, 14 KOs) and David “The Great White” Light (19-0, 12 KOs) have commented on their December 2 ProBox TV clash on December 2 at the White Sands Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

Brandon Glanton: “This guy is my next victim. I have been training pretty hard for him. I take everybody seriously, but I am going to melt this guy. He is a one-two fighter and has decent hand speed – not much foot movement or power but he’s a veteran and knows his way around the ring. He will look to make it a rangy fight, but I am just the opposite. For as long as it lasts it will be a great fight for the fans. I won’t pick what round it will end – it will come down to however way I am feeling. I am going to knock him out and the tougher he is the better. I am going to hurt this guy. I will lay him out cold.”

David Light: “Training is going great – it’s hardest I have ever trained in my life and I am leaving no stone unturned. We have watched Glanton and he’s a very good strong fighter, the sort of guy people avoid but we are up for the challenge and totally believe we have got what it takes to win. We coming to beat him at his own game. We are coming to put him to sleep. After December 2nd everyone is going to know who I am as losing is not an option.”

WBA #1 Zerafa says he was under police protection

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBA #1 middleweight Michael Zerafa has revealed that he received police protection after being informed there was a contract hit placed on him related to his last-minute pullout against Tim Tzsyu 16 months ago.

“I’d been told by people that I had a hit out on me. Zerafa told Fox Sports. “Obviously I couldn’t take that lightly so I went to the police, made statements, it was out of control. Nobody knew how true the threat was but the police were involved, Echo was involved … it was chaos. Ideta, 38, dethrones Japanese 154Lb champ Kawasaki

By Joe Koizumi
Photos by Naoki Fukuda

It was truly a night of upsets where we witnessed four unexpected results with our great surprise on Tuesday night at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Unheralded Isao Aoyama (13-10-1, 4 KOs), 114.5, upset former OPBF, Japanese flyweight champ and two-time world title challenger Takuya Kogawa (32-8-1, 14 KOs), 115, at 1:13 of the fifth round in a scheduled eight.

Less experienced Japanese rookie Katsuya Yasuda (10-1, 7 KOs), 135, upset WBO AP #14 Rachata Khaophimai (12-3, 9 KOs), 133.25, from Thailand, at 2:22 of the second round in a scheduled eight.

Underdog Yuni Takada (10-8-3, 5 KOs), 105, upset JBC#1, WBO AP#2 minimum Katsuki Mori (10-2, 2 KOs), 105, at 2:45 of the fifth round in a scheduled eight. Scheduled to fight for the vacant WBO AP belt early next year, Mori was shockingly flattened with a right counter with a thud, to be carried out of the ring on a stretcher.

In the main event, JBC#6 Yuichi Ideta (16-16-1, 9 KOs), 153, upset Japanese super-welter champ Makoto Kawasaki (13-9-2, 2 KOs), 154, to halt him at 1:52 of the ninth round to wrest the national belt to our greatest surprise. The reason why his coronation became so sensational in sports media is that Ideta previously suffered no less than eleven consecutive defeats (can you believe?) but kept on fighting until thirty-eight years of age. Who on earth had expected Ideta to be a champion? Continue reading “Night of Upsets”
