Tszyu risking world title fight against Inoue

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

A world title opportunity for WBO #1 light middleweight Tim Tszyu (19-0, 15 KOs) could happen more sooner than later as long as Tszyu doesn’t stumble against WBO #7 Takeshi Inoue (17-1-1, 10 KOs) Wednesday night on PPV at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, NSW, Australia.

“It’s a very real chance that our next outing will be against Brian Castano for that world title,” Tszyu’s manager Glen Jennings told Wide World of Sports. “It’s just a matter of timing to see whether or not the mandate gets enforced and we will roll on with that.”

Krasniqi still waiting for results of appeal

Former WBA interim light heavyweight champion Robin Krasniqi says he hasn’t heard a peep out of the German Boxing Commission (BDB) since protesting his split decision loss to Dominic Bösel six weeks ago. The team of the Kosovo-born Krasniqi team questions why the international panel of judges were changed by the BDB to an all-German team (including the BDB President’s daughter) that they allege are close to German-born Bösel and promoter SES Boxing. They also point out when German Rico Mueller lost to Poland’s Rafal Jackiewicz last year, the BDB quickly acted on Team Mueller’s protest and reversed the decision in days.

59th WBC Convention officially opens

Rivas & Bridger Walker

By Boxing Bob Newman

In keeping with their tradition of always expanding boundaries, breaking down barriers and leading the way, the WBC pulled out all the stops in making the inauguration of their 59th annual world convention one of the most unique ever.

Bypassing the conventional trend of holding opening ceremonies in a grand ballroom at the host hotel, this year, the first live convention in 2 years due to the COVID pandemic, the WBC held their opening ceremonies at the incredibly expansive Arroyo restaurant about a 20-minute drive from the Intercontinental Presidente hotel.

To call the Arroyo simply a restaurant would be an understatement. This establishment was more of a multi-purpose complex. With a massive two-tiered banquet hall, the actual opening ceremonies were held in the attached bull ring! What could be more fitting than an arena where the most Mexican form of battle is held – a bullfighting ring? Continue reading “59th WBC Convention officially opens”

This week’s Crawford-Porter pay-per-view will be something different. Instead of buying through the regular PPV channels of cable, dish, apps, etc., fight fans can only purchase Crawford-Porter if they’re ESPN+ subscribers.

Promoter Bob Arum explains.

“ESPN+ has a platform now that has 19 million subscribers,” said Arum. “And when ESPN+ has the exclusive pay-per-view rights and they can publicize it and constantly email their subscribers, they’re doing huge numbers.

“How do I know that? Because while they haven’t had any exclusives yet in boxing, they have had UFC exclusively for a couple of years now at least. And the UFC numbers on pay-per-view are huge because of ESPN+ which has it exclusively. Continue reading “Crawford-Porter: For ESPN+ subscribers only”

Dulorme protests loss to Ennis

DulormeWelterweight Thomas Dulorme (25-6-1, 16 KOs), has officially submitted a letter to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, disputing the result of his bout against Jaron Ennis (28-0, 26 KOs), in which he claims he was hit with an illegal rabbit punch to the back of the head. The fight took place at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Dulorme is asking the Nevada State Athletic Commission to overturn the knockout loss to a no decision due to the referee Mike Ortiz’ outcome-determinative error.

“I feel I wasn’t given the allocated time to recover by the referee, after getting hit from what was clearly an illegal rabbit punch to the back on my head, forcing me to fight at a disadvantage,” said Dulorme. “Jaron Ennis is a great fighter and I’m not taking anything away from his talent, I’m just disputing that I should have been given the allotted time to regain my composure. I’m hoping that Nevada State Athletic Commission will honor my appeal based on their rules.”

Rendon, Perez win in Hobbs, NM

By David Finger

About the same time a walk-on freshman from Plainville, Kansas became the most unlikely hero in college football, a similar underdog story was playing out at the Corral Arena in Hobbs, New Mexico.

27-year old Herman Rendon of Midland, Texas, came back to Hobbs for the second time in his career to score a stunning upset over undefeated fighter.  This time it was the talented local prospect Yhorhighness Rezzaq of Hobbs.  Rezzaq, a talented boxer-puncher, was propelled into the main even when the original headliner Mario Gonzalez was forced to step aside due to an injury.  It should have been a coming out party for the talented Hobbs, native.  But for the second time in as many fights, Rendon came to Hobbs and upended the apple cart. Tszyu: I’m ten times stronger than Inoue

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBO #7 light-middleweight Takeshi Inoue (17-1-1, 10 KOs) may be powerfully built, but WBO #1 light middleweight Tim Tszyu (19-0, 15 KOs) says he will be the stronger fighter on Wednesday when they will collide at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, NSW, Australia, televised on Foxtel Main Event pay-per-view.

“I couldn’t care less about my body,” Tszyu told the Sydney Morning Herald.” As long as I’m feeling fit and strong, that’s the main thing. It’s not a body-building contest – it’s a fight. I saw a few photos. I saw he was ripped. I’m quite happy for him that he’s got himself into real good shape and he’s confident. There’s no better feeling than facing a confident fighter and then take the soul out of them. Continue reading “Tszyu: I’m ten times stronger than Inoue”
