WBO #11, IBF #12 heavyweight Demsey McKean (20-0, 13 KOs) stopped Don Haynesworth (16-8-1, 14 KOs) in six rounds in Manchester, New Hampshire last Friday and should be back in action in February and later in 2022 could challenging former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker. McKean spoke to Fightnews.com®.

“I was happy to get six rounds and the stoppage,” said McKean. “I really didn’t have a training camp for that fight as I was in training with AJ and then Dillian Whyte for about a month and two weeks with my coach Tony Sims. I had a week with the trainer in Philadelphia over here. I had three weeks sparring in the USA. I have had different coaches pretty much since I left Australia. I was crook on fight week with the flu. My fight kit didn’t arrive for my fight. Pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong. Continue reading “McKean targets Parker in 2022”

Lewis: Kambosos can cause upset over Lopez

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

Hall of Fame trainer Johnny Lewis, who trained world champions Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tszyu, and Jeff Harding, spoke to Fightnews.com® to say he predicts IBF#1 lightweight George “Ferocious” Kambosos can get an upset victory over IBF, WBA, WBO lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez in Madison Square Garden next Saturday.

“Unlike a lot of others in boxing – I give George Kambosos a big chance to cause an upset against Teofimo Lopez,” said Lewis. “If Lopez has made a mistake of thinking they have an easy fight against Kambosos and the fight goes past the halfway mark – I can see George coming home. I think they have taken George lightly and they have done that at their own peril. There have been several fight dates that have been changed but George has shown he is mentally tough and remained very confident of victory over Lopez. He will be 100% right on November 27 in Madison Square Garden. George is extremely fit and he has been ready to defeat Lopez for a long time.”

Unnamed (14)

A golden opportunity was missed to see WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford and WBC/IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence go face-to-face on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Spence attended Crawford’s fight against former champ Shawn Porter, but as soon as Crawford stopped Porter, Spence rose from his seat, shook his head disparagingly, and left the arena.

Crawford was surprised to hear Spence was even there.

“He was at my fight?” Crawford told Bernardo Osuna in the ring. “That boy said he was never going to be at my fight but now he’s at my fight. You saw what I did compared to what he did. Who’s #1 in the welterweight division now? Y’all know who I want. I’ve been calling him out!”

Crawford-Porter comments, Porter retires

“(I figured him out in) Round 1,” said WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford after stopping “Showtime” Shawn Porter in the 10th round. “I figured that I had the reach and he had to take chances, and he did what he normally does. He tried to maul and push me back, but I used my angles and I pushed him back at times as well. Shawn Porter is a slick fighter. He was doing some things in there and made me think.

“I love him. Shawn Porter is a real good friend of mine. I didn’t really want to fight him. We always said we would fight each other when the time was right and I guess the time was right for this fight to happen. I tried to fight the other champions in the division, and that didn’t happen, so I went to the next best thing.”

“My timing was off and he wouldn’t allow me to get my rhythm,” Porter said. “He’s the best out of everybody I have been in the ring with.”

Unbeaten WBO #2, WBC #4, IBF #9 middleweight Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly (11-0, 7 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over former world champion Hassan N’Dam (38-6, 21 KOs). In the third, Janinek scored a knockdown and continued his dominance. Later in the fight, Alimkhanuly had his way pounding N’Dam until referee Kenny Bayless had seen enough and stopped the fight at 2:40. N’Dam not happy about the stoppage.
