Ludumo Lamati wins on a 4th round KO

By Ron Jackson

Former African Boxing Union, South African, IBF Intercontinental and IBO junior featherweight champion Ludumo Lamati from Mdantsane returned to action in style when he knocked out the rugged Filipino Mark Anthony Geraldo in the fourth round, in a featherweight contest scheduled for ten rounds on Thursday night at the Durban Casino in Durban.

There was very little in it through the first round with neither fighter landing any scoring punches. However, in round two Lamati (57.00kg) from Mdantsane who fights out of Johannesburg, picked up the pace to score with rights to the head of the southpaw Geraldo (58,80kg). In the third round the bigger Lamati, 30, continued to score with the cleaner punches.

It was a determined Lamati who came out fast at the bell in the fourth round to dominate before he landed a short right to the body that left the 31-year Geraldo clutching his side in pain where he was counted out by referee Sihle Zungu. Continue reading “Ludumo Lamati wins on a 4th round KO”

Sanginov back in gym after knife attack

Undefeated WBA #9 welterweight Mekhrubon Sanginov (13-0-1, 10 KOs) nearly lost his life recently when he was stabbed in the chest in his hometown of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Sanginov was protecting another man from an intoxicated bully who was picking on an innocent bystander. In the midst of protecting the man, the assailant brandished a large knife and stabbed him multiple times, nearly puncturing his heart. Sanginov is lucky to be alive.

“The attack happened very fast, but I knew what was right and I needed to protect an innocent person from this crazy man,” said Sanginov. “When I saw the bully picking on this helpless man, it made me sick. I can’t stand bullies, and this guy I was protecting desperately needed my help. People might think I am crazy, but I’m fine with what happened. This bully was drunk and was going to do some serious damage to this guy. I almost died, but it was for a good cause.” Continue reading “Sanginov back in gym after knife attack”

Ex-WBC 112lb champ Higa defeats Songsaeng

Former WBC flyweight champ Daigo Higa (19-2-1, 17 KOs), 117.75, swept all rounds and pounded out a nearly shutout decision (100-90 twice, 99-91) over Thailand’s Songsaeng Phoyaem (18-3, 12 KOs), 116.25, over ten on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Having his WBC belt stripped on the scale prior to his slated defense against Cristofer Rosales and having been halted by the Nicaraguan in nine rounds in April 2018, Higa fell into hell with a 22-month hiatus chiefly caused by an indefinite suspension that eventually ended after a year and five months. Higa moved up to the bantam category, and tasted an upset defeat by puzzling lefty Ryosuke Nishida in April of the previous year. Even now Daigo hasn’t regained his previous power, pugnacity and punching sharpness. Higa kept stalking the durable Thailander all the way but failed to score an expected knockout. Ryder reveals middleweight pain

John Ryder has revealed the horrors he experienced in continuing his attempt to become successful as a middleweight fighter before ultimately rejuvenating his career at super middleweight.

Ryder takes on Zach Parker for the WBO Interim world super middleweight title at The O2 on November 26 in a highly-anticipated domestic clash, live on BT Sport, where the winner will either fight Canelo Alvarez for the full title or be elevated to champion.

Currently a picture of health and happiness, Ryder is readying himself to go to war with the unbeaten Queensberry man Parker, but it was a different story down at middleweight, where the principal battle was against the scales.

It was in his 2015 British title challenge against Nick Blackwell that Ryder began to realize that toiling down to 160lbs was having a detrimental effect on his fistic fortunes. Continue reading “Ryder reveals middleweight pain”

Belfort out, new foe for Rahman Jr.

Due to contracting COVID, Vitor Belfort has had to pull out of Saturday’s boxing match against Hasim Rahman Jr. at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Rahman will now face former UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy.

Hardy stated, “I’m excited man, this is my chance to show that I belong in the boxing world. I know plenty about the Rahman name as boxers, and I know he was preparing for Vitor, but I’m definitely confident and prepared to show people I can box.” In Hardy’s corner will be former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs.

Floyd stops Deji in exhibition bout

Floyd Deji

45-year-old ring legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) carried YouTuber Deji Olatunji for five rounds before turning up the heat and getting a stoppage from referee Kenny Bayless in round six. Easy work, as Floyd likes to say.

Unbeaten cruiserweight Tommy “TNT” Fury (8-0, 4 KOs), the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and late sub Rolly Lambert Fogum (15-1-1, 12 KOs) fought a lackluster six round exhibition with two minute rounds and oversized gloves. Then things really deteriorated.

Jake Paul, who was doing commentary at ringside, had dissed Fury the entire fight. Fury’s 58-year-old father John Fury ripped off his shirt and challenged Jake to fight him in the ring. Paul challenged Tommy to come fight him at ringside. Tommy challenged Paul to fight him inside the ring. It turned into a ‘you come over here,’ ‘no, you come over here,’ ‘no, you come over here’ scenario. Tommy finally tried to get at Paul, but was held back by security.

Fury was originally slated to face New Yorker Paul Bamba in an official fight, but he failed to make weight and no compensation deal could be reached with Bamba.

Unbeaten super lightweight J’Hon Ingram (3-0, 3 KOs) and kickboxer Koji Kouzi fought a spirited three round exhibition.

Unbeaten WBC International super featherweight titleholder Jaider Herrera (9-0, 7 KOs) punished Franklin Manzanilla (21-9, 20 KOs) for five rounds. Herrera dropped Manzanilla in the first 30 seconds of the bout. Manzanilla down again in round two. After two more knockdowns in round five, Manzanilla didn’t come out for round six.

Light heavyweight Anthony Taylor (2-3, 1 KO) beat up actor Jack Fincham for four rounds, however, no decision was rendered. The bout was changed to an exhibition due to the weight difference between the smaller Taylor and Finchem. Taylor previously went the distance with Tommy Fury.

The bout between former WBC female lightweight champion Delfine Persoon (47-3, 19 KOs) and Ikram Kerwat (11-3, 5 KOs) was declared a no contest. Persoon dropped Kerwat in round one, then hit her on the canvas.

46-year-old cruiserweight and former wrestler Bobby Fish won his pro debut against Boateng Prempeh (2-4, 2 KOs) with a second round TKO.

Promoter Vick Green and his longtime matchmaker Aaron Rodriguez brought Pulse Boxing & Entertainment to Bert’s Warehouse & Entertainment complex in Detroit. Pulse Boxing was able to show off their top prospects in front of a roaring crowd on Friday night.

Featherweight Cameran Pankey made quick work of DeShawn Kennedy (2-8, 2 KOs). Early in the 1st round, a left body shot thrown by Pankey dropped Kennedy. The knockdown should have been able to be recovered from, but Kennedy spent time trying to pick up his mouthpiece, ignoring the count. Kennedy was counted out, giving the 1:48 KO victory in the 1st Round to Pankey, who improved to (6-0, 4 KOs). Pankey, known as “The Fighting Pride of Pontiac, Michigan” appears to have a bright future in the sport. In his post fight interview, he mentioned how his dad passed away a few years earlier, and how it was his dad’s birthday that night. He asked the crowd to wish his dad a happy birthday, while dedicating his fight to his late father. Continue reading “Results from Detroit”
