Szeremeta shocks Goddi to win Euro middle

By Marco Bratusch

Polish middleweight Kamil Szeremeta (17-0, 3 KOs) shocked Italian co-challenger Alessandro Goddi (33-3-1, 16 KOs) early, winning the vacant European 160-pound title via second round TKO at Palazzetto dello Sport in Rome, Italy. Goddi came out busy in round one looking to force the action but he remained on his punches too much and was soon counter-punched by a very accurate Szeremeta, who lands some vicious hooks and uppercuts. The opening stanza was all in all fairly balanced but in the second round, Szeremeta landed a hard right cross to the temple that sent Goddi to the canvas. The Italian beat the count but was floored again one minute later from another clinic blow. Goddi stood up again with great difficulty but as soon as referee Victor Loughlin was allowing him to resume the fight the towel flew in from his corner and the bout was properly stopped. Ortiz: It’s gonna be a bad night for Wilder

Heavyweight title challenger Luis Ortiz says he won’t get sucked into a war of words with WBC world champion Deontay Wilder, who he will attempt to dethrone on March 3 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“I’m ready to go,” says Ortiz. “We’re ready to go this week if we have to. As far as for the fight and for Wilder, I have no comments for him…none of this talk bothers me. He can talk all he wants. Deontay is trying to convince himself…it’s going to be a hell of a fight and somebody’s going to hit the canvas. While he keeps hyping himself and hyping himself and trying to believe in himself, it’s going to be a bad night for him. He’s talking about PEDs. I’ve taken seven tests in a month and a week, seven blood and urine tests for VADA and the New York Commission.
