Kambosos: I am still focused

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

IBF mandatory lightweight contender George Kambosos is still focused on defeating undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez after five dates for their showdown have fallen through for one reason or another. Matchroom will now promote the fight sometime in November.

“The boxing world can see that Kambosos is a man of honor, this is about legacy for me, not about money,” Kambosos told the Sun-Herald. “I’ve stood my ground, my team stood their ground. This fight needs to happen. I don’t want any more different dates, no more games. The world can see who stood their ground between me and Lopez.” Continue reading “Kambosos: I am still focused”

Together in person for the first time since originally announcing the trilogy showdown in June, Fury and Wilder exchanged words during the heated press conference, rehashing the numerous dramatic twists and turns that have made up their rivalry, while promising to end their feud in the ring on Saturday.

Tyson Fury: “Wilder is a weak person mentally and I’m going to knock him out on Saturday night. I obliterated him in the rematch and I see much more of the same in the third fight.”

Deontay Wilder: “I don’t have anything to prove. I’m in a great place and in a great state of mind. I have a lot of great people around me. This fight is about redemption, retaliation, and retribution.”

Munguia, Rosado virtual presser quotes

Middleweights Jaime Munguia (37-0, 30 KOs) and “King” Gabriel Rosado (26-13-1, 15 KOs) hosted a virtual press conference Wednesday in anticipation of their November 13 showdown on DAZN at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Jaime Munguia: “Yes, I won a world title at 24. But also, all these years I have gained a lot of experience. I feel like my boxing has improved, and we are ready for bigger challenges. After Rosado, there has been a lot of talk about a fight with DOMANCHENKO, Jacobs, and Golovkin…this is going to be a fun night, a night full of punches. It will be a war. Everyone knows that Mexico vs. Puerto Rico are always great fights.”

Gabe Rosado: “I’m excited, but I am not going to give up the game plan, obviously. I want to do a little bit of everything. I’m going to bang, I’m gonna move, I’m gonna box, and I’m going in to win. I’m not just going to win on the scorecards; I want to get a knockout. I want to keep that momentum going because I think it’s important. These are the kinds of fights where it has to live up to the expectations of the fans. So you have to be a hundred percent, and you gotta be willing to be all in, in the ring. It will go down into the history books. This is one of the fights that they’ll be talking about 20 to 30 years from now.”

Niyomtrong retains WBA minimum super belt

Thammanoon Niyomtrong (23-0, 8 KOs) returned to the ring and scored a third round TKO against compatriot Siridech Deebok (23-7-1, 13 KOs)  to retain his minimumweight super championship at the Chang Arena, in Buriram, in his native Thailand, on Tuesday. After a long inactivity due to the pandemic and a postponement of the fight a few months ago, the boxer known as Knockout CP Freshmart had to wait more than a year to box again since March 2020, when he made his last fight.

Niyomtrong showed superiority from the first bell and his attacks managed to knock down the challenger twice. The punishment was evident and in the third stanza, the third man on the ring was forced to stop the action to give a new victory to the WBA monarch at 105 pounds. 15 glorious years of producing hope, inspiration and joy

Wbc CaresBy Mauricio Sulaimán
Son of José Sulaimán / President of the WBC

It all started with an email sent to the general account of our organization. One of the great virtues of my dear late father, Don José Sulaimán, was to attend to absolutely all the issues that came, and from whoever sought him out by letter, email, call or visit.

Jill Diamond wrote a long email calling for women’s boxing to be dignified. Jill lost her husband to the terrible demon of cancer, and fate led her to find meaning when boxing appeared in her life. She began training in this discipline at the Mendez Gym in Manhattan, and she found the brotherhood and sisterhood that exists in the noble sport of boxing.
