Ready for Mayweather-McGregor 2?

A rematch between 45-year-old Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Conor McGregor, the second highest-grossing boxing pay-per-view in history, is in the works for next year.

“I want to go out there this weekend and have fun [versus MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in a $29.99 pay-per-view on Saturday night]. Then I have another exhibition Dubai in November, and me and Conor McGregor in 2023,” Mayweather told the Daily Mail. “We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition or a real fight. But there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition.”

Floyd added, “I am not into fights where I am going to take any real punishment…so, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don’t really hit hard, such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don’t really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals but nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself.”

Sad to report Detroit middleweight Isiah Jones was shot and killed in what is being reported by his trainer as a dispute with a family member that turned deadly. The incident occurred early Monday evening in Detroit.

After winning the 2016 National Golden Gloves, Jones got off to an excellent start as a professional reeling off all wins in his first eight fights culminating with a decision over fellow Motor City boxer Lanardo Tyner. The Tyner fight proved to be Jones’ last fight in his hometown, as he went on the road during the COVID pandemic losing seven of his last eight fights with his last bout in July of this year against Andrew Murphy bringing his final record to (9-7, 3 KOs).

Canelo, GGG Post fight Comments

By Miguel Maravilla

Gennadiy Golovkin: “This fight was more tactics…like chess. Today Canelo is better.”

[On if he will continue his career] “Absolutely. I have a great plan. I have a lot of opponents…remember I’ve got three belts. I’ll come back. I’m still champion.”

Canelo Alvarez: He’s a tough fighter. I need surgery on my left hand after this. It was really bad. But I’m a warrior. That’s why I’m here.

[On a rematch with Dimitri Bivol next] “Of course, everyone knows. We’ll see what happens in that fight (Bivol vs. Zurdo). But I need rest. I need to get strength in my hand and my body and then come back stronger than ever…and I will beat him!” Continue reading “Canelo, GGG Post fight Comments”

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) settled his trilogy with Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) with a clear twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Early rounds were close with an edge for Canelo. Golovkin’s face marked up quickly. Canelo increasingly upped the aggression while the 40-year-old GGG couldn’t seem to pull the trigger on his power punches. A desperate Golovkin rallied a bit down the stretch, but it was too little, too late. Scores were surprisingly close at 116-112, 115-113, 115-113.

Canelo-GGG 3 Undercard Results

By Miguel Maravilla at ringside

IBF #6 super middleweight Ali Akhmedov (19-1 14 KOs) of Kazakhstan put in work in going the distance and pitching a shoutout against Philadelphia veteran “King” Gabriel Rosado (26-16-1, 15 KOs). Boxing at a fast pace in the early rounds, sizing on another, Akhmedov and Rosado stood busy. Akhmedov connected with a straight right to begin the third round, but Rosado kept his composure and stood busy. Stalking in the fourth, Akhmedov began to let his hands go as he pumped the jab and followed up with right hands, later in the round Rosado swung the right wildly. In the fifth, Akhmedov connected with a solid right hand that stopped Rosado’s momentum as the Kazakh boxed patiently.

In the sixth, Akhmedov stood busy boxing keeping his distance from the stalking Rosado. It was Akhmedov dictating the pace outworking the always tough Rosado, in the eighth the Kazakh let his hands go unloading a combination as Rosado shelled up. As always Rosado came with everything and was disappointing as Akhmedov boxed and worked his way to hard fought decision.

After completing ten rounds, all three judges scored the bout 100-90. Continue reading “Canelo-GGG 3 Undercard Results”
