Welterweight Alexis “Lex” Rocha (20-1, 13 KOs) will return to the ring as the co-feature to Saturday on October 29’s 12-round main event match between former IBF super featherweight champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz, Jr. (32-2-1, 15 KOs) and undefeated lightweight William “El Camarón” Zepeda (26-0, 23 KOs). Rocha will defend his NABO welterweight title against Jesus “Ricky” Perez (24-3, 18 KOs) in a 10-round fight to be broadcast worldwide on DAZN and live from the Pechanga Arena San Diego.

Alexis Rocha: “All I care about is stepping into the ring and knocking out my opponents. That is my mindset. As long as I keep knocking opponents out, knocking them down, making them quit, or breaking them down, my opportunities will come and eventually none of the top names will be able to ignore me. That is my mission and that is all I care about. I’m coming for every top fighter.”

Jesus Perez: “This is a great opportunity for me. I know the odds are stacked against me, but I will be more than ready on Oct. 29! Let’s hope my opponent is as well so we can give the fans a show.”

Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall have an added incentive to be victorious on October 15. The winner will claim the new WBC ‘Elizabethan Belt.’ The belt is a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after the original fight date was postponed due to a 10-day period of national mourning for the late British monarch following her passing two days before the initial September 10 event at The O2 in London, England.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is not planning to cancel Saturday’s BBBofC-prohibited Eubank-Benn clash without a fight.

“It’s with the lawyers, going backwards and forwards right now,” said Hearn during a public workout today in London. “Both guys signed up to a multitude of testing for this fight. The UKAD testing, which is obviously the testing agency the British Boxing Board of Control use and are governed by, have all been clear and negative and there was an adverse finding on a VADA test previously. So there’s not been an official doping violation. There’s a process that has to be gone through.

“Conor Benn is not suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control. Ultimately, he can’t be because he’s passed all the tests from UKAD. On the evening of 4th October 2022, the Board of the British Boxing Board of Control Limited resolved that the contest between Chris Eubank Jnr. and Conor Benn scheduled to take place on 8th October 2022 is prohibited as it is not in the interests of Boxing. That was communicated to the Boxers and Promoters involved on the morning of 5th October 2022.

Conor Benn has tested positive for a banned substance, reportedly trace amounts of the banned women’s infertility drug Clomifene. Despite the adverse finding, both camps wish to proceed with Saturday’s big money showdown between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr in London. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has yet to weigh-in on the issue.

Matchroom Boxing/Wasserman Boxing Statement: We have been made aware that a random anti-doping test for Conor Benn conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) returned an adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug. The B sample has yet to be tested, meaning that no rule violation has been confirmed. Indeed, Mr. Benn has not been charged with any rule violation, he is not suspended, and he remains free to fight.

Mr. Benn has since passed a doping control test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency, the anti-doping authority to which the British Board of Boxing Control has delegated its doping control testing for the bout. Mr. Benn has passed all doping control tests conducted by UKAD.

Both fighters have taken medical and legal advice, are aware of all relevant information, and wish to proceed with the bout this Saturday.

Orlando resident and promoter Gonzalo Sapia will host an event Friday, October 21 at the Avanti Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The main event will have Miami-based super featherweight proposect Frank Diaz (9-1, 8 KOs) against veteran Oscar Bravo (25-10, 11 KOs) of Chile. The co-main will feature unbeaten WBA #15 cruiserweight Serik Musadilov (13-0, 11 KOs) of Kazakhstan versus Javier Gomez Rueda (21-17, 15 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico.

The IBF has stripped junior lightweight champion Joe Cordina of the 130lb belt he won in June for not defending against mandatory challenger Shavkat Rakhimov. Cordina-Rakhimov had been scheduled for the November 5 Bivol-Zurdo undercard in Abu Dhabi, UAE, but Cordina pulled out with a hand injury that required surgery and will keep him out of the ring until well into 2023.

Heavyweight Hughie Fury has pulled out of his WBA eliminator with Michael Hunter again, citing the effects of “long COVID.” The fight had already been rescheduled for October 29 after Fury pulled out of their original July date due to illness.

IBO super welterweight champion Sam Eggington (32-7, 18 KOs) will defend the championship against former three-time world title challenger Dennis Hogan (30-4-1, 7 KOs) on Saturday at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, televised on Foxtel Main Event.

DAZN presents a “Sons of Legends” grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KOs) and Conor Benn (21-0, 14 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London. The bout will be contested at a 157lb catchweight with Eubank coming from middleweight and Benn coming from welterweight.

Sad to report that legendary former bantamweight and featherweight world champion Éder Jofre passed away today at the age of 86 in São Paulo, Brazil. Jofre is considered by many to be the greatest bantamweight boxer in history. He had a professional record of 75-2-4 with 55 KOs, both his losses were close decisions against Fighting Harada. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992. R.I.P.

The welterweight super fight between WBO champion Terence Crawford and WBC/WBA/IBF champion Errol Spence, originally slated for November 19, may be pushed back. The fighters agreed to terms, but the two sides are still haggling over other issues.

The WBA Championships Committee has ruled that current regular featherweight champion Leigh Wood will be granted no further extensions and must face super champion Leo Santa Cruz in his next fight as part of the WBA world title reduction plan.

The WBA had approved a joint permit requested by Matchroom Boxing and TGB Promotions to allow Wood to make an optional defense against Mauricio Lara, and Santa Cruz to fight Rey Vargas in a unification fight. However, Wood pulled out of the Lara fight with a torn bicep and Santa Cruz-Vargas seems to have fallen apart as well. So when when Wood recovers, he must next face Santa Cruz.

The WBA Championships Committee also ordered a clash between WBA minimumweight super champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong and regular champion Erick Rosa. They have 30 days to reach a deal or a purse bid will be called. The winner will be the sole WBA minimumweight champion.

Former two-division world champion and current WBC #1 super bantamweight Luis “Pantera” Nery (33-1, 25 KOs) overpowered and stopped David “Severo” Carmona (22-11-5, 9 KOs) in three punishing rounds on Saturday night at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Nery dropped Carmona once in round two, and twice in round three to end it. Carmona, a three-time world title challenger who has now lost eight of his last ten, came in as a late sub.

In the co-feature, 42-year-old female ring legend “La Princesa Azteca” Jackie Nava (40-4-4, 16 KOs) ended her illustrious career with a ten round unanimous decision over Gloria Elena Yancaqueo (10-12-3, 3 KOs) in a super bantamweight bout. Scores were 98-92, 97-93, 97-93.

In other action, junior middleweight Jorge “Chino” García (24-3, 20 KOs) was victorious when Jorge “Maromerito” Páez (42-15-2, 25 KOs) didn’t come out for the fourth round and junior welterweight Carlos “Tiburón” Sánchez (23-1, 19 KOs) knocked out Elvis Torres (20-3-2, 11 KOs) in the seventh round.
