Boxeo Telemundo closes their summer series this Friday with an exciting featherweight clash between former world title challenger and countryman Cesar “Corazon” Juarez (26-10, 20 KOs) and world-rated Dennis ”El Martillo” Contreras (24-10-1, 22 KOs) at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

He dropped a valiant and respectable decision to then world champion Nonito Donaire in 2015. He still desires very much to again challenge for a world title and win it this time around. Contreras is on a hot win streak at the moment but Juarez wants to end it and begin his own championship run. Continue reading ““Corazon” Juarez debuts on Telemundo Friday”

WBA lightweight and super featherweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis suffered no injuries in a minor plane crash in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, over the weekend. The nosegear of a private aircraft he was riding in malfunctioned on takeoff.

Looks like the Teofimo Lopez against George Kambosos fight might land on the October 5 edition of Triller’s Tuesday “TrillerVerz” series at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. It also appears Triller shut down the $2.99/month “TrillerVerz” subscription option.

Undefeated lightweight Tyler “Short Fuse” Tomlin (11-0, 7 KOs) faces Ira “Mr. Showtime” Terry (27-16, 16 KOs) in an eight-rounder on Saturday at the Oak Grove Racing and Gaming Hotel in Oak Grove, Kentucky.

Amanda Serrano has more pro fights than Claressa Shields, Katie Taylor and Jessica McCaskill combined.

P4P female boxer Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano will defend her unified WBC/WBO featherweight titles against WBC super bantamweight world champion Yamileth Mercado on Sunday night’s Paul-Woodley pay-per-view.

Serrano (40-1-1, 30 KOs) is by far the biggest KO artist among elite female boxers.

I know that I’m facing a tough Mexican fighter, but I’ll beat her at her own game!” Continue reading “Serrano: This could be a short fight”

Weekly Boxing Preview

Good week of boxing action.

Friday night on Telemundo is the return of Dennis “El Martillo” Contreras (24-10-1, 22 KOs), currently boxing’s most interesting comeback story. Coming off a 1-8-1 streak, Contreras was firmly entrenched in journeyman status, when something strange happened. He started beating the “A-side.” Contreras has defeated Fernando Garcia (12-0), Belmar Preciado (20-2), Carlos Flores (20-0) and Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (23-1) in consecutive fights and earned world ratings with the WBA and WBC. On Friday, Contreras faces two-time world title challenger Cesar “Corazon” Juarez in another stiff test.

Unfortunately, Showtime quietly pulled the plug on Saturday’s Showtime Championship Boxing telecast.

Sunday night is the Paul-Woodley PPV. There are a lot of good names on that undercard, including the return of Ivan Baranchyk, who was in 2020’s fight of the year, heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois, and women’s P4P Amanda Serrano in the co-feature.

Yordenis Ugas: “I told you, I am the champion of the WBA and I showed it tonight. I’m very emotional. A lot of people say Cubans can’t win the big fight. So, I’m very proud that I got this win for Cuba and showed what we are all about. My trainer, Ismael Salas, and I had a plan. We were going to move him around; we were going to use the jab and keep him off balance. That was the whole game plan. The right hand was a shot I had planned to use on Manny. It kept working so I kept using it.”

Manny Pacquiao: “In the future, you may not see Manny Pacquiao in the ring. I don’t know. Let me rest first, relax and make a decision if I’ll continue to fight or not.”
