Unbeaten formerly thirteen-time national amateur champ, WBA#9 Hayato Tsutsumi (6-0, 3 KOs), 129.75, lopsidedly battered ex-champ Rene Alvarado (34-15, 22 KOs), 128.75, from Nicaragua, and finally decked a fine TKO victory at 1:55 of the eighth round in a scheduled ten in Tokyo on New Year’s Eve.
Despite the cancellation of the main event between WBA 115lb champ Fernando Martinez (who caught a bad flu to be unable to fight as scheduled) and ex-titlist Kazuto Ioka, the show went on and the aforementioned WBA super feather eliminator was a headliner before the sparse crowd at Ota city general purpose gymnasium. This was the final 2024 boxing show held in boxing-abundant Japan.
Promoter: Shisei Promotions.

showcase fight, 15 loses, c’mon
I believe is time for Alvarado to find another way to earn some “pesos”. At 35 with 7 loses in his last 9 fights and obliterated by a fighter with only 5 professional fights, is evident his decline
There’re some really good fighters in there that he lost to, but he’s definitely taking a lot of damage and if his durability is starting to decline — getting stopped by a guy who’s 5-0 with 2kos — then yep, might wanna think about finding a new line of work.
The WBA has an interim champion at 130 and they have a mandatory who’s been waiting a year and a half for his shot…. and they’re having an eliminator, while their champion is up at 135.
Alvarado had seen his better days, its time to reconsider his next move out of boxing! Maybe a couple of fights to make a few bucks against lesser opposition and call it a day! No mas!
