In a clash between regional New England rivals, former world title challenger Greg “The Villain” Vendetti (23-4-1, 12 KOs) won a ten round split decision over Jimmy “The Quiet Storm” Williams (18-6-2, 6 KOs) to claim the vacant WBC USNBC silver super welterweight title on Friday night at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Coming off a world title shot against Erislandy Lara 13 months ago, Vendetti pressed the action and brawled his way to a 97-93, 99-91 edge on two cards. The third card was 96-94 Williams.

Unbeaten middleweight Chordale Booker (17-0, 7 KOs), fighting for the first time in his home state, outpointed veteran Silveiro Ortiz (37-28, 18 KOs) over eight rounds. With former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe removed from his fight with Lamar Odom for precautionary reasons, the former NBA star will now face Ojani Noa. Who? Noa’s claim to fame is he was once married to J Lo. Of course, Odom was once married to Khloe Kardashian, so there’s some sliver of a storyline here.

The October 2 PPV card takes place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida. The co-feature clash between “Magic Man” Paulie Malignaggi and TikToker Corey B is still a go.

WBC #12, WBA #13 heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov (13-0, 13 KOs) scored a first round TKO against Erkan Teper (21-4, 13 KOs) in a clash for the NABF title on Thursday night at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Makhmudov dropped Teper three times in round one and the bout was stopped between rounds.

Unbeaten super middleweight Christian Mbilli (19-0, 18 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Ronny Landaeta (18-4, 11 KOs). Mbilli dropped Landaeta in round two and rocked him immediately in round three to prompt a referee’s stoppage. Time was :37. Mbilli won the vacant WBC Continental Americas title.

Matchroom Boxing won the rights to promote the WBA super welterweight eliminator bout between Michel Soro and Israil Madrimov, ranked number two.

Matchroom representative Frank Smith bid USD $245,000, surpassing the $217,770 put on the table by Y12 Management. Matchroom gave three venue options including Las Vegas (USA), Cleveland (USA), and Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The distribution will be 60% of the amount for Soro and 40% for Madrimov.

Matchroom now has 20 days to submit the contracts signed by both parties to the WBA office.

Probellum, the new boxing venture of former Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, has announced that former boxer-turned-broadcaster Paul Smith, presenter Ali Drew, and “Fight Disciples” Adam Catterall and Nick Peet will join its new crew of on-air talent.

According to a media release, Probellum’s aim is to grow a digital platform which will serve millions of boxing fans worldwide on a 24/7 365 basis, and in its first year will promote, co-promote, or sponsor at least 100 events worldwide, and stage marquee events of its own in the United States, in the United Kingdom/Ireland, and in the MENA/CIS regions.

Riddick Bowe will NOT be fighting against Lamar Odom next month — the boxing legend has been yanked from the event as a result of Evander Holyfield’s performance earlier this month, TMZ Sports has learned.

Unheralded underdog Masamichi Yabuki (13-3, 12 KOs), 107.75, surprisingly captured the WBC 108-pound belt as he survived a crisis in the ninth and caught up with previously unbeaten defending champ Kenshiro Teraji (18-1, 10 KOs), 107.5, with a flurry of unanswered punches, which finally prompted the referee Yuji Fukuchi’s intervention on Wednesday in Kyoto, Japan. Prior to the stoppage, Yabuki was leading on points: Hisatoshi Miyazaki 86-85, Masahiro Noda 87-84 and Yoshikazu Furuta 88-83. All were Japanese judges because of the coronavirus pandemic that prevented any foreign officials to enter this country.

Originally slated on September 10, the champ Kenshiro tested positive for Covid in a PCR test in the end of August, was forced to stay at home for ten days and resumed training from September 6. Even if he recovered well and was confident enough, was his only 16-day preparation truly enough for him to regain his best shape? After delay after delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Class of 2020 was finally inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) this past Sunday afternoon at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.

Attending inductees were (L-R) Ron Lipton, Merqui Sosa, Dennis Milton, Freddie Liberatore (seated); Bobby Cassidy, Jr., Lou Savarese, Jack Hirsch and Rick Glaser (standing). Each received a custom-designed belt signifying their induction into the NYSBHOF. Henry Hascup and famed ring announcer David Diamonte shared master of ceremony duties.

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is a strong 1:1 betting favorite to win the 2022 Philippine presidential election. Sara Duterte-Carpio, who happens to be the daughter of current President Rodrigo Duterte, is second at 2:1. The elder Duterte, who is leaving office due to a term limit, is expected to be on the ticket as her vice-president.

6’9, 265-pound heavyweight Antonio “El Gigante” Mireles has signed a multi-year promotional contract with Top Rank and will make his professional debut in a four-rounder live on ESPN+ October 15 on the Emanuel Navarrete-Joet Gonzalez undercard at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Mireles, from Des Moines, Iowa, will be trained by Robert Garcia and managed by David McWater, the 2020 Manager of the Year.

“Antonio is a big young man with a personality to match, and he has all the makings of a heavyweight superstar,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “With Robert Garcia guiding him inside the ropes, I have no doubt he’ll develop into a formidable fighter.”

The Canelo-Caleb showdown intensified at the kickoff presser. After the two jawed a bit during their face-off, Canelo shoved Plant and a melee broke out. The weigh-in ceremony for the WBC 108-pound title bout was held on Tuesday in Kyoto, Japan, and defending champion Kenshiro Teraji (18-0, 10 KOs) scaled in at 107.5 pounds, while #1 contender Masamichi Yabuki (12-3, 11 KOs) tipped the beam at 107.75.

The scheduled semi-final for the vacant Japanese youth flyweight belt was abruptly canceled, as Aoba Mori tested positive for COVID in the PCR test conducted at the weigh-in, though Mori and his opponent Yuga Inoue both made weight.

The show will be presented by Shinsei Promotions at the Kyoto City Gymnasium.
