Zurdo: I want to be undisputed light heavy champion

By Hesiquio Balderas

Former super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez is the new Golden Boy protegee, both recently signed a multi-year deal that will aim at for big opportunities en route to another world championship bout.

“I’m very pleased with Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez and Golden Boy has treated me very well. I’m very happy with the way they act and how they conduct themselves, human beings first before business,” stated Zurdo. “I had many offers but I took the Golden Boy offer because it was the best by far and the fact that they know how to handle the career of so many champions. They know how to build a star from nothing, like Canelo. Golden Boy made him what he is now. Ryan García also and so many champions they’ve made. Tszyu: I haven’t reached my peak

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBO #2, IBF #3 light-middleweight Tim Tszyu (17-0, 13 KOs) says he’s shown improvement with each bout he has contested ahead of his bout against Dennis Hogan (28-3-1, 7 KOs) on March 31 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

“I’m only 26, I still haven’t reached my peak. I’ve got another 50, 60, 70 percent more to improve on. That’s dangerous for people in my weight division,” Tszyu told the Sydney Morning Herald. “Each fight I’ll be bigger, stronger, better. This camp I can really feel it. You’re going to see another improved Tim Tszyu.” Continue reading “Tszyu: I haven’t reached my peak”

Ortiz-Hooker a hit at the box office

By Hesiquio Balderas

According to Golden Boy Promotions executive Ramiro González, last Saturday’s Ortiz vs. Hooker event was a complete success for Golden Boy. They sold all 5,584 tickets that were put on sale for the event at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

“It was an incredible event and it’s a fact that boxing is more alive than ever and that the stars of the future are here to stay and that shows that Golden Boy is a machine in making fighters and big events,” stated González.

“We had a full house under the restrictions and social distancing from Covid-19, and we still had full attendance of 5,584. It was a complete sell-out. $200, $100, $60, and $40 were the prices of the tickets and they all sold.

“It’s the magic hand and the art of knowing the box office from Golden Boy who know how to guide the stars like Ortiz and made it clear that Virgil will be a box office hit like he is a knockout artist.

“With this type of event held by the Hall of Famer and ten-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya, it opens jobs, it gives employment to many people, the arena workers, the people from security, just to name a few. Our company directed by President Eric Gómez and matchmaker Robert Díaz have guaranteed the fans adapting to the pandemic that when we put on shows there will be good matchups. Competitive fights. The fighters earn their paycheck in rough fights, satisfying the public, giving their maximum effort. That is why Golden boy is a factory of champions!”

Is Amanda Serrano the women’s P4P?

Unnamed (8)

The biggest complaint about women’s boxing is the lack of knockouts. Even the three undisputed women’s world champions usually have to go the distance.

Claressa Shields 11-0, 2 KOs – 18% KO rate
Katie Taylor 17-0, 6 KOs – 35% KO rate
Jessica McCaskill 10-2, 3 KOs – 25% KO rate

The exception to the rule is seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano, who gets her opponents out of there at a whopping 70% clip.

Serrano (39-1-1, 29 KOs), in our opinion the women’s P4P best, defends her WBA and WBC female featherweight titles against former world champion Daniela Bermudez (29-3-3, 10 KOs) on Thursday night, looking for career KO number 30. You can see the “KO Queen” live on NBCSN.

Representatives of Evander Holyfield expressed frustration after Mike Tyson’s representatives refused to accept a $25,000,000 guarantee from Team Holyfield to participate in Tyson v Holyfield 3 at the Hard Rock Stadium (home of the Miami Dolphins) to kick off Memorial Day weekend. Colonel Bob Sheridan: Marvin Hagler

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

Famous broadcaster Colonel Bob Sheridan talks to Fightnews.com® about how he called several fights featuring the great Marvellous Marvin Hagler (62-3-2, 52 KOs) including classic contests with Tommy Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard.

HAGLER V HEARNS

“Marvin Hagler’s fight with Tommy Hearns stands out as one of the greatest fights of all time along with Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier in 1971. The Ring Magazine voted the three rounds the contest lasted the best three rounds in the history of the sport. I was there and I concur with that. I was going absolutely nuts calling that fight. It was absolutely non-stop with both guys in the peak of physical condition and they just whaled away at each other and it was just attrition that won that fight for Marvellous Marvin Hagler. Deines: I could have gone on

Light heavyweight challenger Adam Deines spoke about his brave effort against WBC/IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev on Saturday in Moscow. His corner pulled him out after a knockdown in round ten.

“After the untimely end, I was a bit angry because I could have gone on. I was clear-headed and able to get up. We’ll analyze that together with the entire fight – but health comes first! Many thought the fight would end in the first or second round, but I got through. I felt his punch, but he also felt mine. I boxed well and the proof is that Artur Beterbiev came to me afterward and said, ‘tough fighter’ and ‘keep it up!'” Continue reading “Deines: I could have gone on”
