Holyfield camp says Tyson rejected $25m offer

Representatives of Evander Holyfield expressed frustration after Mike Tyson’s representatives refused to accept a $25,000,000 guarantee from Team Holyfield to participate in Tyson v Holyfield 3 at the Hard Rock Stadium (home of the Miami Dolphins) to kick off Memorial Day weekend. The parties have been in intense negotiations for several months and Team Holyfield says they believed a deal was imminent, especially after the Hard Rock threw its support behind the project, and there were multiple other offers conveyed to Team Tyson. However, Team Tyson’s demands recently became untenable, and not what Mike Tyson had originally agreed on in direct conversations with Holyfield.

While neither side has announced publicly that the fight is not going to happen, with negotiations at a standstill and the date rapidly approaching, it seems unlikely that this fight will occur as planned.

“We thought this was a done deal but it quickly fell apart when Tyson’s people declined all offers,” said Kris Lawrence, Evander Holyfield’s manager. “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time.”

    • I can’t think of any two boxers beyond the age of 40 off the top of my head that I really want to see fight. Hard to believe tyson turned down $25mil though. Seems like he could use the money.

  • Two legendary fighters but I wouldn’t pay to watch. Tyson had fun with last exhibition fight. He could have dropped the hammer on Jones but didn’t out of respect. Holyfield wants to ko Tyson again but doesn’t realize evil Mike is gone. New Iron Mike is gentle and kind and stoned. I want to see older Klitscho vs Lewis again . Jmo

    • Agreed. Great statement. Vitali and Lennox would be an interesting one nowadays! Their first fight was a slug fest until that bad cut stopped the mayhem!

      • Lewis wouldn’t take the fight then, no way he takes it now. He knows he hit Vitali with everything he had and didn’t phase him. Vitali Klitschko has the best chin in boxing history and Lewis knew he would most definitely lose the rematch.

        • Vitaly kitschy and Lennox Lewis were two of the top 5 heavyweights of all time. To me doesn’t matter which one was better. They were both fearsome.

    • so much attention for 2 guys that No longer belong in the ring for an exhibition or a real fight. btw, Tyson CANT pass a drug test (not sure if it makes any difference)

      • also, who is guaranteeing the money?
& how is it guaranteed ? is it deposited before the fight?
        just curious, makes a difference

  • Vitali kitschko and Lennox Lewis are tied for the top heavyweight of all time in my opinion.Tyson fury after he whoops aj will become also tied for the number 1 position of all time. There you have it Vitali Lennox and Tyson fury.

    • Well if you think Vitali is the top heavyweight in boxing history then maybe you should stop watching boxing. Also if you think Tyson Fury is even a top 50 heavyweight of all time then maybe you should stay off the crack.

      • Fury has cleaned out the division for years and will retire undefeated as lineal champion. Yea he’s not in the top 50. Your right.

    • Vital Klitschko greatest heavy of all time.. wowser thats a huge statement mate. Your opinion of course which i respect. I think there are many heavyweights that came before him that would have got the job done over him, bit robotic in my opinion. But he did have a granite chin ✌

    • Vitali Kiltschko best heavy of all time.. wowser big statement mate, your opinion of course which i respect. I think there we’re a few heavyweights that came before him that would have got the job done over him, bit robotic in my opinion, but he did have a granite chin ✌

      • Vitali was very unorthodox in his fighting style, punches came from him at from all different angles. And he had deceptive speed, along with his power. Vitali never truly lost inside the ring from an opponent beating him convincingly. Many think, including me, that he was winning the fight with Lewis, up until the fight was halted. And, of course, him tearing a muscle in his arm against Byrd, who he was clearly thrashing as well. It’s just unfortunate that Vitali didn’t fight other top opposition at the time, what ever the reasons may have been. Vitali even today is a very underrated heavyweight champion. In my book, better than his brother. You can’t teach someone to have a granite chin. His was up there with the best, the likes of Ray Mercer and Oliver McCall.

    • Right, you mean the Vitali who “quit” on his stool against Chris Byrd is the top heavyweight of all time? Your disqualified “in my opinion”.

    • What are you talking about. If it wasn’t for that cut, Lennox kos klitschko.

  • I see the face of this wonderfully honest man any time I visit this website. Is he part of this website and furthermore we gonna have him forever? I put some ads blockers an it didn’t work, seems it’s bulletproof

  • Tyson is afraid of getting his ass kicked by a real HW. He doesn’t want that smoke with Holyfield. Everyone who is bitchin would be glued to the television. Stop bs’ing with yourself.

    • I might be glued to the television that night, but I won’t be watching this bullshit. Perhaps a Big Bang Theory rerun!

    • They might not be glued to the TV, but they’d certainly be watching the highlights on YouTube.

  • Too bad they didn’t set up this fight for April 1st, with “staging” another “Bite Fight”, this time with a fake bite and fake blood. Maybe they could make it Holyfield’s turn to return the favor! Or is it ‘flavor”?
That would make great headlines! : )

  • I admit, I was all in for Tyson-Jones. Yes Tyson has a lil sumpin’ sumpin’ for a 54 year old, but that’s about all I can say. I think someone like Dereck Chisora would anhilate him in under 2 minutes. I saw recent footage of Holyfield training, and I think I could prolly beat him at this point! (relax, I jest…maybe). The fact these two are even considering fighting is pretty stupid, but hey, why not? Have at it! But the amount of money that’s on the table is outlandish, and the fact that Tyson is refusing 25 mil??? Does he think he should be getting more???…Barnum and Baily are kicking themselves in their graves right now, imagine if they were alive today and promoting boxing!!!

  • I don’t ever want to hear Tyson crying about money or being broke again. Turning down 25 million for a ” fight” that would probably be bullshit anyway.
    I’m 52 and I’ll fight anyone for 25 million !!
Also, for the guy who thinks Vitali Klitscho is the greatest heavyweight ever- ever hear of a guy named Muhammad Ali ??????

    • who is guaranteeing the money?
& how is it guaranteed ?
      just curious, makes a difference

  • One thing I would pay to see though, and that’s to see the mayor of Kiev, I think Vitali still is mayor, take on some of the excuses for mayors all across this country. Starting with Joltin’ Bill DeBlasio from NYC. I’d pay to see that one. I’d like to see that POS get cold-cocked.
