The Impact Network has hired 18-year-old Zach Hirsch as a ringside reporter for its boxing telecasts. Hirsch, the son of famed boxing manager Scott Hirsch, is known for his sports handicapping skills. He has more than 350,000 followers on his @ipickwins Instagram account. Other members of the broadcast team are Antonio Tarver and Curran Bhatia.

WBO President Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcárcel oversaw the official belting of new WBO female junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer at a ceremony today in Naranjito, Puerto Rico. Former world champions José Pedraza and Alex ‘El Nene’ Sánchez presented Mayer with the belt.

WBA lightweight and super featherweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis is reportedly being sought by Baltimore police in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left several people injured. According to WJZ, the local CBS affiliate, at 1:53AM this morning a vehicle ran through a red light and struck another vehicle, then left the scene. According to the station, a source named Davis as the driver who ran the red light.

Unbeaten Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Tony Yoka (8-0, 7 KOs) will return against Christian Hammer (25-6, 15 KOs) on November 27 in Nantes, France. Hammer was slated to face David Allen in the UK on October 31, was forced out due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Christian Hammer: “Yoka is a strong boxer, but I’ve been in the ring with completely different calibers. I want to work my way up again with a road win and show that you have to reckon with me in 2020 also.”

Unbeaten Japanese prospect WBO#3 Junto Nakatani (20-0, 15 KOs) tipped the beam at the 112-pound flyweight limit, while #1 Giemel Magramo (24-1, 20 KOs), Philippines, scaled at 111.75, a quarter under the limit. They will dispute the vacant WBO flyweight belt (renounced by former champ Kosei Tanaka) tomorrow (Friday) at the Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan.

Heavyweight Alexander “The Great” Flores previewed his showdown against Luis “King Kong” Ortiz on a media conference call Tuesday. Flores and Ortiz headline an all-heavyweight FOX telecast this Saturday from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The card also features Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sánchez (15-0, 11 KOs) against Brian Howard (15-3, 12 KOs) in the 10-round co-main event, and Michael Coffie (10-0, 7 KOs) against Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell (35-10, 33 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

With Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte 2 being postponed due to Povetkin’s positive COVID-19 test, there was some concern that the whole event would be canceled. However, EC Promotion announced today that the card is still on with the new headliner being welterweight Conor Benn (16-0, 11 KOs) against former IBO titleholder Sebastian Formella (22-1, 10 KOs). The bout will be for the WBA Continental welterweight title and take place at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London.

Benn is coming off two knockout wins in 2019 (Jussi Koivula KO2 and Steve Jamoye KO4). Formella dropped a decision against two-time world champion Shawn Porter in August. Sky Sports will televise in the UK. DAZN will televise worldwide.

Undefeated 2016 Lithuanian Olympian welterweight Eimantas Stanionis (11-0, 8 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Justin DeLoach (19-5, 10 KOs) on Wednesday night at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Stanionis broke down DeLoach and dropped him twice in round nine. The bout was waved off after Stanionis’ follow-up barrage. Time was 2:53.

Unbeaten super welterweight Chordale Booker (16-0, 7 KOs) won an eight round split decision over Sonny Duversonne (11-2-2, 8 KOs). Scores were 77-75 Duversonne, 77-75, 77-75 Booker.

Unbeaten super lightweight Kent Cruz (16-0-1, 10 KOs) was victorious when Erik Castillo (9-3, 3 KOs) didn’t come out with round three.

WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada will next fight mandatory challenger Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. The WBC ordered free negotiations to carry out this fight, promptly informing all parties involved. If no agreement can be reached within the next 30 days, the purse bid for the bout will be held on Tuesday, December 1.

In their first battle, Sor Rungvisai achieved a majority decision victory over el “Gallo” to successfully defend his title in early 2018. In their rematch last year, Estrada won a unanimous decision.

Last Saturday’s blockbuster pay-per-view event featuring Gervonta Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz along with the event’s co-feature, Mario Barrios vs. Ryan Karl, will air on SHOWTIME this Saturday, November 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic South Africa has only had a handful of boxing tournaments under strict and controlled conditions with no fans in attendance. However, prior to this boxing was at low ebb with limited coverage in the newspapers and television.

At one time there were weekly television shows on SATV and Supersport and most newspapers had a dedicated boxing reporter. Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing, Aldo Mir of Boxing Major League, and Lourdes Saura of World Class Event Entertainment announced the signing of undefeated WBA #12 ranked middleweight Armando “Toro” Resendiz (11-0, 8 KOs) to a co-promotional contract.

Resendiz is originally from Compostela, Mexico, but is planning on training in Minneapolis, Minnesota at The Circle of Discipline Boxing Gym with trainer/co-manager Rodolfo Estevez, and alongside WBA interim welterweight world champion Jamal James and WBA interim champion David Morell, Jr.
