ESPN+ picks up Yoka-Tambwe clash

Heavyweight contender Tony Yoka (9-0, 7 KOs), the 2016 Olympic gold medalist from Paris, has set his sights on his first professional belt. Yoka will battle Joel Tambwe Djeko (17-2-1, 8 KOs) in a 12-rounder for the vacant European Union title Friday at H Arena in Nantes, France.

In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, Estelle Yoka Mossely (8-0, 1 KO), Tony’s wife, will fight Verena Kaiser (14-1, 6 KOs).

The Yoka-Djeko card will stream live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+ beginning at 2:40 p.m. ET/11:40 a.m. PT.

Lee-Teah undercard announced

As previously reported, super lightweight KO artist Brandun Lee (21-0, 19 KOs) faces Samuel Teah (17-3-1, 7 KOs) in a ten-rounder headlining a four-fight ShoBox card on March 10 inside the “Fight Sphere” at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The other fights, all eight-rounders, will see Misael Lopez (11-0, 5 KOs) against Jordan White (10-1, 8 KOs) at super featherweight, Steven Ortiz (11-0, 3 KOs) against Jeremy Hill (14-0, 9 KOs) at lightweight, and Victor Padilla (8-0, 7 KOs) against Thomas Velasquez (10-0-1, 6 KOs) at super featherweight.

The four-fight Showtime telecast is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and D&D Boxing.

The complete televised lineup for Friday’s $29.95 all-female “SUPERWOMEN” PPV is set.

Of course, in the main event is the undisputed women’s super welterweight championship fight between WBC/WBO titleholder and self-proclaimed WGOAT Claressa Shields (10-0, 2 KOs) and Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-0, 0 KOs), the reigning IBF titleholder. The first-ever WBA “super” title for a women’s fight will also be on the line.

“We are not responsible for who the number one contender is. I don’t pick and choose that. We made an agreement before we fought Callum Smith that if we came out victorious against Callum, we would fulfill the commitment of facing Avni Yildirim. Callum Smith did the same thing if he were victorious that night.

“I don’t make the rankings. Somebody else does and we are just trying to follow the path that will guide us to collect all the championship belts at 168 pounds. In the main event at the sold-out Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida, unbeaten lightweight Carlos “Pote” Vidal (17-0, 16 KOs) stopped Danny Flores (15-21-1, 8 KOs) in round two. Vidal started off pressuring Flores right away making it a fight. Silva bitten/wins by DQ over Diaz

Unbeaten super welterweight Alejandro Luis Silva (14-0-1, 10 KOs) remained unbeaten by disqualification over countryman Gabriel Omar Diaz (10-2, 3 KOs). The bout came to an end in round three when Silva had Diaz in a front headlock during a clinch. Apparently, Diaz was frustrated being in the clinch and bit Silva on the inside of his arm. A clear bruise instantly surfaced on the inner arm of Silva who immediately showed it to the referee. The referee disqualified Diaz and Silva retained his Argentina (FAB) title. WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (55-1-2, 37 KOs) easily annihilated WBC mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim (21-3, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Canelo dominated every moment of every round. He dropped Yildirim with a huge right hand in round three, then pummeled Yildirim until the bell. Yildirim quit after round three.

Promoter Eddie Hearn announced that Canelo will face WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.

Rodriquez stepped in on two days’ notice when WBC champion Julio Cesar Martinez pulled out with an injury. Three knockdowns weren’t enough. Unbeaten WBO #8, IBF #15 heavyweight Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang (22-0-1, 17 KOs) and Jerry Forrest (26-4-1, 20 KOs) battled to a ten round draw on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Zhang dropped Forrest in each of the first three rounds. However, after that Forrest fought his way back into the fight. A totally gassed Zhang was deducted a point for holding in round nine. In a WBC super middleweight eliminator, two-time world champion Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell (33-2-2, 24 KOs) and Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis (15-2-1, 6 KOs) fought to a twelve round draw on Saturday night at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles. No particularly memorable highlights in a tough, gritty fight where Dirrell had a slightly higher workrate. Scores were 115-113 Davis, 115-113 Dirrell, 114-114.

19-year-old welterweight Jesus Ramos (15-0, 14 KOs) impressed again with a second round TKO over Emilio Bojórquez (24-3, 18 KOs). Former WBO heavyweight champion and currently WBO #3 ranked Joeseph Parker (28-2, 21 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten WBO #5 ranked Junior Fa (19-1, 10 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO Oriental heavyweight title on Saturday night at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. Frustrating fight that never heated up. Close rounds. A lot of clinching. Parker was the aggressor. In the end, judges had it 119-109, 115-113, 117-111 for Parker.

Unbeaten heavyweight Hemi Ahio (17-0, 12 KOs) chopped down 7’1, 326-pound Julius “The Towering Inferno” Long (18-25-1, 14 KOs) in seven entertaining rounds. 43-year-old Long dropped Ahio in round four, but then ran out of gas. In the 10 round main event, Juan Nicolas De Leon (13-3, 4 KOs) upset previously unbeaten Jose Hugo Acevedo (13-1-1, 8 KOs) by sixth round KO to win the Argentina (FAB) lightweight title at the Microestadio Municipal de Hurlingham, in Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
