World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight champion Artem Dalakian (17-0, 12 KOs) scored an impressive eighth round KO over challenger Sirichai Thaiyen (50-4, 35 KOs) on Sunday at the Parkovy Convention Centre in Kiev, Ukraine. Dalakian, making his first defense, was aggressive and in command the whole way. He dropped Thaiyen in round five, round six and round eight. The bout was finally waved off near the end of round eight to protect Thaiyen from further punishment.

Vasquez KOs Mijares, ruins ring farewell

Former world champion Wilfredo “Papito” Vázquez Jr. (25-7-2, 20 KOs) left the overflow Auditorio Centenario crowd in stunned silence by brutally knocking out hometown idol and former two-division world champion Cristian “Diamante” Mijares (59-9-2, 27 KOs) on Saturday night in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico.
In round three, Vazquez got the better of a vicious exchange that shattered Mijares’ nose and sent him crumpling to the canvas to hear the full count. Mijares had already stated this would be his last fight. Vazquez had lost three straight entering the fight and hadn’t fought in 20 months.
In the co-feature, super lightweight José “Pistón” López (28-6-2, 15 KOs) won a majority decision over Roberto “Massa” Ortíz (35-3-2, 26 KOs).

Zepeda KOs Diaz in dramatic fight
In a dramatic fight where both fighters visited the canvas, lightweight Jose “Chon” Zepeda (29-1, 24 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Carlos “Chuko” Diaz (27-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night on a Zanfer Promotions card at the Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, BC, Mexico.
Diaz dropped Zepeda in round four with a liver shot, but Zepeda managed to survive the round. In the fifth round, Zepeda floored Diaz with a shot to the stomach. Diaz then vomited in the ring while being counted by referee Rafael Ramos and was immediately attended to by the corner and ring physicians.

Spence annihilates Ocampo in one

IBF welterweight champion Dallas’ own Errol Spence (25-0, 21 KOs) showed why he is indeed “The Truth” as he dropped Carlos Ocampo (22-1, 13 KOs) with two vicious body shots, a left and a right, at the end of round 1 that sent Ocampo hunched over on the canvas in excruciating pain. Referee Laurence Cole counted to 10 and just like that Spence Jr. scored an impressive 1st round knockout in front of his hometown fans.
Ocampo showed he came to fight, countering Spence Jr. early, but Spence Jr. was on the attack from the opening bell and went right to his bread and butter, the body. It looked like Ocampo might survive on the opening round, but was unable to continue. The official time of the stoppage was 2:59 seconds of round 1. WBA champ Roman hands Chucky first defeat

In the co-main event at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, WBA super bantamweight champion Daniel Roman (24-2-1, 9 KOs) went toe to toe with the undefeated challenger Moises ”Chucky” Flores (25-1, 17 KOs), who lost the chance to win the title on the scales coming in heavy. Roman and Flores traded shots throughout the fight in the center of the ring, but neither guy was ever hurt. Roman showed his full arsenal landing to the head and body all night against Flores. Flores countered Roman but could not land a telling blow on Roman.
The fight was ruled a unanimous decision as the judges scored it 116-112, 118-110, 120-108 for Roman, who retained his title win or lose.

Undercard Results from Dallas

The fight between junior welterweights Javier Fortuna (35-2-1, 23 KOs) and Adrian Granados (18-6-2, 11 KOs) was stopped with 10 seconds left in round 4, when Fortuna fell out of the ring and hit his head after a possible slight push from Granados. It was ruled an accidental injury and a no decision. Fortuna was immediately rushed out of the arena on a stretcher.
Fortuna had already had two points taken away from him by Referee Robert Chapa for holding and hitting behind the head. Up to that point, it was a rough fight with both guys trying to establish themselves inside. Granados kept coming forward landing an occasional right hand before being tied up while Fortuna tried to counter him with his big left hand. Granados cannot seem to catch up a break as he has lost a handful of controversial decisions.
Hard-hitting welterweight Eminantus Stanions (6-0, 5 KOs) from Lithuania and trained by top trainer Ronnie Shields dropped Erick Marinez (14-13-1, 8 KOs) in the 3rd round and then used a big flurry to cause referee Neal Young to waive it off. Stanions kept his undefeated record intact with the TKO at 1:56 of round 3.
In a back and forth chippy battle, featherweight Stephon Fulton (15-2, 6 KOs) found late power to stop the tough Jesus Ahumada (15-2, 9 KOs) in the 9th round of the scheduled 10. Fulton, trained by Nazim Richardson, was using an effective jab throughout to stay away from the aggressive Ahumada. Ahumada was landing the bigger shots throughout but could not put Fulton away. Finally, in the 9th round, Fulton found a burst of energy and unleashed a flurry on Ahumada and forced referee Neal Young to call a halt. The official time of the stoppage was 1:54 in 9th round. Roman keeps WBA title, win or lose
WBA super bantamweight champion Danny Roman (24-2-1. 9 KOs) was inside the 122lb weight limit during Friday’s weigh in, while #1 challenger Moises Flores (25-0, 17 KOs) came in heavy. Flores originally weighed in at 123.5 lbs. and only managed to shave half a pound during the two-hour allotment given to him.
Roman, 28, was stunned by the challenger’s inability to come in at the contract weight. “I was a little surprised [he didn’t make weight] because it’s a world championship fight and you expect him to be professional,” he said.
Due to Flores’ misstep, he is ineligible to win the world title. Roman, on the other hand, retains the title even in a defeat. “I trained with heavier guys than me so I’m ready for whatever he brings,” Roman stated.

In a ballyhooed competitive matchup, WBO#7 Hiroaki Teshigawara (17-2-2, 10 KOs), 118, impressively kept his WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight belt when he surprisingly overwhelmed two-time world challenger Teiru Kinoshita (26-3-1, 9 KOs), 117.75, badly dropped him with a roundhouse right hooks and dispatched him at 2:41 of the fifth round in the second title bout at the Hall in Tokyo on Thursday.
