“Not at all. I feel good and strong. I can fight at the end of the day. Being out of the ring is not going to affect me in any way shape or form,” Crawford said. Continue reading “Terence Crawford: I am going to do me”

“Errol wants to prove to the world that he is still the best welterweight in the world”

By Jeff Zimmerman

When pound-for-pound star and unified welterweight champ Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr.(26-0, 21 KOs) steps back in the ring on Saturday, December 5 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, and shown live on FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View, for the first time since his horrific single car accident just over a year ago against two-division world champ Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs), boxing fans will be on the edge of their seat to see how he responds to the first big punch landed by the hard-hitting Garcia.

Spence was lined up to face Garcia after his thrilling battle with Shawn Porter last September at Staples Center in LA, where he captured the WBC belt to go along with his IBF strap, but most were surprised when Garcia was again announced as the comeback fight and not a softer matchup.

And everyone would have been ok with it, but Spence was not. Continue reading “Interview: Derrick James”

Joyce looks forward to beating Dubois, being #1

Joe Joyce believes he is fighting for promotional priority, as well as the British and European titles, when he takes on Daniel Dubois in a huge heavyweight collision on November 28. Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank Warren has been in the corner of Dubois since setting him on the road to professional stardom in April of 2017 at the age of 19. The Peacock Gym product has more than lived up to his Dynamite billing and is, by common consensus, the best young heavyweight in the business.

‘Juggernaut’ Joyce, who joined the Queensberry ranks in May 2019 when he was first mandated to fight Dubois for the British title, wants a piece of the action and intends to ambush the ambitious plans laid out for his in-house rival. ESPN’s Salvador Rodríguez reports that Canelo-Smith will land at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas or the Alamodome in San Antonio on December 18, 19, or 20. Boxing’s Confusing Weight Divisions

By Karl Freitag

The idea for a 200-224lb bridgerweight division was proposed at the WBC virtual convention by famed fight agent Don Majeski. Other names considered were “dreadnought” and “juggernaut.”

The names of boxing’s weight divisions haven’t been universally agreed upon for a long time. The WBC and WBA use the “super” designation for the in-between divisions, while the IBF and WBO prefer “junior.”

The WBA, WBC and IBF all use “cruiserweight,” while the WBO calls it “junior heavyweight.” All four use “super middleweight.” As for the lightest weight division (105lb), the WBC calls it “strawweight,” the WBA calls it “minimumweight,” the IBF and WBO call it “mini-flyweight.” Continue reading “Boxing’s Confusing Weight Divisions”
