Team Rozicki responds to WBC ruling

Upon being notified of the WBC´s mandated rematch of Saturday´s disputed decision win of former world title challenger Ryan Rozicki (15-1, 14 KOs) of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, over previously unbeaten Yamil Alberto Peralta (13-1, 6 KOs) of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Team Rozicki responded with the following:

“First of all I want to thank the WBC for the opportunity and I fully respect their decision of an ordered rematch. I expected this fight to be a very tough fight as both fighters wanted this victory to advance into serious world title contention. My opinion is that the fight was indeed close and the judges who scored the fight 95-94 I feel was accurate scoring arguably for either fighter. Peralta boxed extremely well but Ryan had success pressing the action. I am confident that Ryan can duplicate a victory in a rematch.” said Rozicki’s promoter Dan Otter of Three Lions Promotions.

Canelo-Bivol undercard results

By Miguel Maravilla at ringside

Super lightweight Montana Love (18-0-1, 9 KOs) won a close unanimous decision over Gabriel Gollaz (25-3-1, 15 KOs) in the Canelo-Bivol co-feature on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Love dropped Gollaz in round one. Gollaz returned the favor in round two. Scores were 114-112 3x.

Undefeated welterweight prospect Shakhram Giyasov (13-0, 9 KOs) from Uzbekistan won a hard-fought unanimous decision over a tough Cristian Gomez (22-3-1, 20 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico. Slow-paced feel-out round in the first as Giyasov and Gomez settled in. A crisp left hook by Giyasov in the fourth sat Gomez down as the Uzbeki scored the first knockdown of the fight. Giyasov boxed and landed the power punches as bout reached the halfway point.

Gomez was down once again in the seventh as Giyasov was in control. However, Gomez staggered Giyasov in the closing seconds of the round. The Mexican continued to show his will, pressing as Giyasov boxed away and kept his distance. Displaying his superior skill, Giyasov fought conservatively on his feet pumping the jab and tallying points as Gomez stalked. Down for a third time, Gomez hit the canvas in the twelfth and final round as Giyasov worked his way to a well-deserved unanimous decision victory. The judges scored the fight 99-88, 99-88, and 98-89. Continue reading “Canelo-Bivol undercard results”
