Kubrat Pulev: “Texas for Triad Combat was a great event and I hope that Saturday is the same for Triller Fight Club. I’m ready for this fight and I hope my opponent is also ready. I respect him, he is a good fighter, he had a good fight against Michael Hunter. But I’m different and on a higher level than his past opponents. This fight is very difficult for him, I have everything and he is going to find that out on Saturday night, I’m like a very intelligent, wild animal.”

Jerry Forrest: “It’s a blessing and a pleasure to fight on this tremendous card. This is another chance to show what I can do. I feel like this is where I belong and everything has led up to this. I’m always in the gym so I’m in great shape and I’m ready. My approach for every fight never changes; I’m going to outbox everybody.” Continue reading “Kovalev-Pulev Final Press Conference”

Fighters featured on the DAZN stream on Saturday hosted a media workout today. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya stated that headliner Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (43-0, 29 KOs) is taking aim at breaking Floyd Mayweather’s record for an unbeaten career. “I saw a lot of potential in Zurdo and that’s why I signed him once he became a free agent. The vision is to beat Mayweather’s record. There are a lot of fights and opportunities for him. It’s just a matter of positioning Zurdo and forcing fighters to fight him. In the future I can see him make a title defense in his hometown.”

Ramirez takes on former WBA interim light heavyweight world champion Dominic Boesel (32-2, 12 KOs) at Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez: “I think Bivol was just too much for Canelo. I am a little sad as a Mexican boxing fan. In a way, I do have to get revenge since I represent Mexico as well.”

Dominic Boesel: “I know the atmosphere and I like it. I’m first on the ladder and Zurdo is right under me so it was a fight that had to happen. We’ll see what happens.” Continue reading “Zurdo, Boesel workout quotes”

How to deal with a defeat

By Mauricio Sulaimán
Son of José Sulaimán – President of the WBC

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez lost his fight last Saturday in Las Vegas, so the traditional celebration of May 5 “Cinco de Mayo,” which has been a tradition for several decades, was eclipsed

First of all, I want to express my feelings at this difficult time for Saul, who is a great fighter, a pride of Mexico and the world of boxing overall. Life is life, just like boxing: you win and you lose. The important thing is the ability to assimilate adversity, accept a setback and have the maturity to get over it and move on with determination to get back and be successful.

This same situation happened back in September 2013. Saul entered the ring to face the one who was, at that time, the most important fighter the pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr., as they fought for Canelo´s WBC super welterweight title.

His personality led him to demand for that fight and the result was adverse. He lost the title and his unbeaten record. Continue reading “How to deal with a defeat”
