“I had a bit of an ankle sprain heading into the fight against Russell. I wasn’t able to use my movement as much as I wanted. It was a mild injury, but it caused me to have a lot less running in training. It just wasn’t the best ‘King Tug’. I would happily rematch Gary Russell Jr. I would love to fight him again because I think it would end differently.

Unbeaten former champion Luis Nery shared updates from his training camp as he prepares to take on undefeated Aaron Alameda for the vacant WBC super bantamweight world championship in the co-main event of part two of a Showtime PPV doubleheader September 26.

For this fight, Nery is training for the first time under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso at his gym in San Diego, alongside Canelo Alvarez and former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr., amongst others. A rumor that ring legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) is fighting YouTube personality Logan Paul (0-1) blew up social media on Wednesday. Reportedly Mayweather and Paul have signed a contract and the fight will be an exhibition taking place later this year. If true, the 43-year-old Floyd, a welterweight, would be giving up some size as Paul, 25, is a cruiserweight.

Mayweather’s last official fight was three years ago against MMA star Connor McGregor (0-1). In a December 2018 exhibition, Floyd knocked out a kickboxer in 136 seconds. In Paul’s only official fight, he lost a six round split decision to fellow YouTuber KSI last November.

Unbeaten super welterweight KO artist Serhiy “El Flaco” Bohachuck (17-0, 17 KOs) will take Alejandro “Pájaro” Dávila (21-1-2, 8 KOs) in a ten-rounder on September 25 topping a closed-door card presented by Max Boxing in the parking lot of TV broadcaster Grupo Sipse in Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico. Bohachuck is currently rated IBF #8, WBC #13.

In other action, local featherweight “Caballo” Daniel Lugo (21-1, 16 KOs) meets TBA in a ten-rounder, and mini-flyweight William “Terrible” Puch (16-1, 8 KOs) will be put to the test by Érik “Habanerito” López (14-5-1, 10 KOs), who is coming off a majority decision loss in a WBA interim title fight against Daniel Matellón.

Super welterweight contenders Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin and Terrell Gausha are both in a feisty mood in advance of Saturday’s night’s Showtime-televised WBC title eliminator.

Erickson Lubin: “I respect him as a fighter, but I don’t think Gausha is on my level. He’s standing in my way of becoming a world champion, so I need to take care of business Saturday night, and look good doing it. I have to make a statement in this fight.”

Terrell Gausha: “This fight is a chance to send a message to all the other fighters at 154 pounds. I want to control every round against Lubin, and if I get him hurt, I’ll be looking to get him out of there. I’m planning to show the gap between us as fighters. He was the one to call for this fight, but anyone who plays with my name, I make sure to send for them.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn says a heavyweight clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora can still happen. “We’re close,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “I mean both guys understand that without a gate at The O2, there’s significantly less revenue driven to that show, but both guys fancy that fight. We’re trying to get the math right. We’re trying to get the numbers right to get these guys over the line. I have to say, fair play to both of them, they are trying to find a way.” Usyk-Chisora was originally set for May 23.

Odds were just released for Saturday’s TV fights at Bet365. Looks like Pedraza-Molina is the most competitive bout (i.e. closest odds). Lubin and Nyambayar are solid favorites. Ajagba and Ennis are massive favorites.

Upset-minded welterweight Juan “Merengue” Carlos Abreu (23-5-1,21 KOs) has vowed to use his experience advantage against world rated Jaron “Boots” Ennis (25-0, 23 KOs), who has knocked out his last 15 opponents in a row, when they fight this Saturday night on SHOWTIME live from a “closed” Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Both fighters are big punchers and Abreu has never been stopped.

“I thank God, my family, and my team – Reyes Boxing and Hector Bermudez – for this opportunity to show my skills against a great fighter,” Abreu said after his workout at Salem Fitness Center.

Rising light heavyweight star Joshua Buatsi (12-0, 10 KOs) will make his long-awaited return to the ring on Sunday October 4 as he defends his WBA International title against undefeated Croat Marko Calic (11-0, 6 KOs), live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Buatsi is rated WBA #3, IBF #3, WBC #12, WBO #14. He last fought 13 months ago. Venue for Buatsi-Calic is TBA.

The highly-anticipated Golden Contract finals will take place at Production Park Studios in Wakefield, England, on September 30. The card sees Ohara Davies against Tyrone McKenna in the super lightweight final, while Ryan Walsh takes on Jazza Dickens in the featherweight final.

Along with the finals, a Golden Contract light heavyweight semi-final between Liam Conroy and Serge Michel will also take place on the bill. Team Sauerland have won the purse bid to stage the IBF super middleweight final eliminator between the UK’s Zach Parker (19-0, 13 KOs) and Germany’s Stefan Haertel (19-1, 3 KOs), with a number 1 mandatory position up for grabs for the victor.

Having tabled a bid of $118,530, the European promotional powerhouse Team Sauerland saw off competition from SES Boxing who submitted their own bid of $115,550, with the fight now expected to take place in the near future.

Dillian Whyte has an immediate opportunity to exact revenge over Alexander Povetkin on Saturday November 21 as the heavyweight rivals collide in a blockbuster rematch, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK. Whyte (27-2, 18 KOs) was sensationally knocked out by Povetkin (36-2-1, 25 KOs) in the finale of Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex, last month.

Alexander Povetkin: “I’ve rested well, spent time with my family, and now that the date of the rematch is known, I will soon return to my training camp and prepare as thoroughly as I did for the first fight.”

Lewis Ritson will defend his WBA Inter-Continental super-lightweight title against Mexico’s former long-reigning world champion Miguel Vazquez on Saturday October 17, live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

Ritson (20-1, 12 KOs) was originally slated to face Vazquez (42-9, 16 KOs) on April 4 in Newcastle before the COVID-19 pandemic turned the sporting world on its head and the event was postponed until a later date.

Heavyweight knockout artist Efe Ajagba (13-0, 11 KOs) will make his Top Rank on ESPN debut Saturday, Sept. 19 against veteran Jonnie Rice (13-5-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-rounder as the co-feature to the Jose Pedraza-Javier Molina junior welterweight main event from the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

On the undercard, two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez (4-1, 3 KOs), who avenged his lone pro defeat via shutout decision over Adan Gonzales on July 2, will fight Felix Caraballo (13-2-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-rounder at featherweight.

The build-up for the September 26 Charlo/Charlo PPV is in full swing. On Monday, WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo brought fans and media into his training camp with a virtual media workout as he prepares to face top contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Undefeated lightweight prospect Néstor Bravo (18-0, 13 KOs) will take on José Luis Gallegos (19-8, 14 KOs) in a 10-round showdown that headlines FS1 PBC Fight Night on Wednesday, September 23 from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The FS1 telecast will also see a battle of unbeaten featherweights as Ranfis Encarnación (17-0, 13 KOs) and Víctor Pasillas (15-0, 8 KOs) duel in the 10-round co-main event. Plus, undefeated Maidel Sando (9-0, 7 KOs) goes up against Genc Pllana (8-1-1, 4 KOs) in an eight round super middleweight bout.

The event will be promoted by TGB Promotions and will take place without fans in attendance.

Undisputed female welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill will defend her WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO titles against Cecilia Brækhus in early 2021 after former champion Brækhus activated the rematch clause. McCaskill ripped the titles from Brækhus in a tightly fought contest on the streets of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma in August as Matchroom returned to action in the US, with one judge unable to split the pair but challenger McCaskill getting the nod on the other cards, 97-94 and 97-93.

Brækhus suffered her first career defeat in Tulsa and that loss prevented the Norwegian from breaking Joe Louis’ 72 year record of 25 consecutive world title defenses. She had hinted at retirement in her post-fight interview.

“That’s the fastest retirement I’ve ever seen in boxing history – she’s back!” said McCaskill.
