Big-punching WBO light flyweight champion Angel “Tito” Acosta (18-1, 18 KOs) has arrived in Las Vegas where on Saturday he will defend his world title against Abraham “Choko” Rodriguez (23-1, 11 KOs) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The bout can be seen on Facebook Watch.

Lee Baxter Promotions is coming home to the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, Canada on Saturday November 17th. This will be the company’s fifth fight card promoted at the venue, which is quickly becoming renowned for hosting great Canadian boxing. “We’ve got a great night of domestic match-ups, a lot of local talent on a pretty stacked card,” stated promoter Lee Baxter.

In the main event, undefeated welterweight Kane Heron (11-0-1, 5 KOs) of Toronto takes on Maximiliano Leonel Scalzone (16-2-1, 12 KOs) in a fight originally scheduled for August 25th at the Budweiser Stage. The time since has seen both lighters extend already intensive training camps, the results of which will be showcased under the lights.

WBO junior middleweight world champion Jaime Munguia will be the special VIP guest for the Oct. 18 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. The event will be headlined by the 10-round middleweight fight between Donegal, Ireland’s Jason Quigley (14-0, 11 KOs) and Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (34-9, 22 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico for Quigley’s NABF title.ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes will air the fights.

The long-simmering animosity between WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford and unbeaten Jose Benavidez Jr. spilled over into Wednesday’s media day, with the pair and their respective teams exchanging verbal haymakers.

Terence Crawford: “It’s been real since day one, since the fight has been announced. It ain’t been nothing but real. I’m just going to go out there and shut him up. That’s it. That’s all…once he feels them punches going upside his head, I don’t even know if he’s going to want to stand there next to me.”

Jose Benavidez Jr: “It’s time to show the world what I can do. I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. I am here. I am going to take over this city, and I am going to take his belt. I’m not scared. I don’t see anything special in him. I don’t know why everyone hypes him up so much.”

Crawford-Benavidez takes place Saturday at the CHI Health Center Omaha (formerly the CenturyLink Center) live on ESPN. Crawford’s four previous fights at the venue have drawn nearly 45,000 fans, and another packed house is expected.

Undefeated heavyweight prospect Cassius Chaney has re-upped with his long-time promoter Main Events. Now 13-0 with 7 KOs, Chaney signed with the Totowa, New Jersey-based promoter before making his pro debut on April 17, 2015. His next bout, the first under his new promotional contract, will be streamed live as part of the November 3 edition of the Golden Boy Fight Night series on Facebook from The Aviator in Brooklyn, which will be headlined by Sullivan Barrera versus “Irish” Seanie Monaghan.

The World Boxing Series heads to Russia Saturday with the bantamweight quarter-final and WBO world championship between Zolani Tete and Mikhail Aloyan and the cruiserweight quarter-final between Andrew Tabiti and Ruslan Fayfer.

At today’s EBU purse bids which took place in Rome, France’s Europrom outbid Italy’s BBT Production offering 17,400 Euros compared to 10,800 Euros earning the right to stage the vacant European Union (EU) middleweight title between Anderson Prestot (21-1, 10 KOs) and Mirko Geografo (12-1-1, 1 KO), who just relinquished his Italian 160-pound title. Trainer Eddy Reynoso has worked for a few weeks now with current WBO featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez. They have forged a friendship and it seems that they both like working together.

“Oscar is a great fighter, a great learner. We’ve been working since October 1. He is a world champion and he has his style. We’re trying to teach him to counterpunch, because as we know, the less punishment you take the longer you last in boxing. He’s doing great,” said Eddy. Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, manager/trainer of WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, spoke to Fightnews.com® about Saturday’s clash between Crawford and former champion Jose Benavidez Jr. at the CHI Health Center Omaha (formerly the CenturyLink Center). Bomac also talked about Team Crawford members super featherweight Ismail Muwendo (19-1, 12 KOs) and light heavyweight Steve Nelson (11-0, 9 KOs) who are fighting on the card.

A few weeks ago, when we talked you said sparring was needed as “Bud” was simply busting up the crew quicker than expected. Is Crawford simply getting stronger at this level and weight?

Yeah, we are good on the sparring, we had to spend some money to bring in some more help. Yeah, Bud gets stronger and more accurate each and every camp. He’s disciplined both in the ring and outside of it, he’s mature as an athlete and as a person. But, the thing he doesn’t get credit for is his boxing IQ. It’s simply off the charts.
