Fury to WBC franchise champion?

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury may soon be elevated to WBC franchise champion, joining Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko with the status. This would allow Fury to head straight to a super fight with Anthony Joshua, provided they both win their next fights.

The plan would leave mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte to fight TBA for the WBC heavyweight world title, which would be vacant due to Fury’s franchise status.
—–
Fury already has an autobiography out and has an exercise book in the pipeline for November called “The Furious Method” where he reveals his fitness, diet, and mental health secrets.
—–
Promoter Erol Ceylan has signed WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Manuel Charr to a promotional deal. Charr hopes to fight in the U.S. with former champ Andy Ruiz on his hit list.

Robeisy Ramirez aims to avenge defeat

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez (3-1, 3 KOs) is out for revenge. The Cuban star will fight Adan Gonzales (5-2-2, 2 KOs) in a six-round rematch at featherweight on July 2. Menayothin not retiring

Rumors that record-breaking minimumweight world champion Wanheng Menayothin (54-0, 18 KOs) is retiring from boxing are unfounded. This was clarified by the ABCO (Asian Boxing Council), which is in touch with the champion.

“We are pleased to confirm that the current World Boxing Council minimumweight world champion Wanheng Meenayothin has not retired from professional boxing. The champ will look to make his next defense of his WBC world title in the coming months,” The Asian Boxing Council said in a statement.

At 54-0, Menayothin broke Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 mark for best record of an undefeated/untied world champion during his career. Of course, if Menayothin ever has a loss or draw, the record reverts back to Floyd.

In the first world title fight since the coronavirus lockdown, WBA #12 contender Joshua “The Professor” Franco (17-1-2, 8 KOs) dethroned previously unbeaten WBA super flyweight champion Andrew Moloney (21-1, 14 KOs) by narrow twelve round unanimous decision on Tuesday night inside “The Bubble” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Franco pressed the action and closed strong, busting up the now ex-champ in round ten. Franco then battered Maloney to the canvas in round eleven and that was the difference. Scores were 115-112, 114-113, 114-113.

Joshua Franco: “After the fourth round, I gained the momentum and figured him out. I always knew this was possible. I wasn’t nervous when the decision was being read. I knew I’d done enough to win this fight. My coach, Robert Garcia, had me ready. I’m going home with the belt.”

Andrew Moloney: “It just wasn’t my night tonight. This was not the best version of Andrew Moloney, but full credit to Joshua Franco. He deserved to win the title with his effort. He closed the fight strong, like a true champion. I’ll be back. One loss won’t define me.”

Fathers in boxing

By Mauricio Sulaimán
Son of José Sulaimán – President of WBC

We just celebrated Father’s day all around the world. There are those who are still fortunate enough to enjoy their dads in this life. If so, then it`s time to hug them, kiss them, talk to them and thank them for everything they have done, even though this might have to be virtual due to the terrible pandemic the world is suffering, the rest of us will be meditating and talking with our Old Man looking up top the sky, even though he is no longer physically here with us.

Being a parent is the maximum responsibility that a human being can have. It is also the greatest satisfaction and joy. I will never forget the feeling of seeing my three children born. That moment changes your life completely and forever. Continue reading “Fathers in boxing”
