WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) had the press all to himself after Dillian Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) was a no-show for the kickoff press conference announcing their April 23 showdown to be broadcast live on Pay-Per-View in the U.S.

Tyson Fury: “I don’t blame him for not being here today because if he were here, I’d have probably stretched him at the press conference. It’s good he’s not here, otherwise I’d be remanded in a London jail cell somewhere. The buildup to this fight will be fantastic because Tyson Fury versus his own shadow sells for sure. I will make sure people are entertained.”

Tyson Fury

“It’s been a roller coaster of a ride, across the Atlantic Ocean in the exotic venues of MGM Grand, T-Mobile, Staples Center. I just feel like the song {by} Thin Lizzy, ‘The Boys Are Back in Town.’ Four years away, and I get to come back and showcase on the world’s biggest stage at Wembley Stadium, 100,000 people there. I’m just putting it on so the fans can come, the people who traveled to Las Vegas… not everyone was able to come. For the people who stayed up to five in the morning to see those fights on BT Sport, now they can come and enjoy an event on home soil and be a part of history. People will be talking about this event and saying, ‘Where were you when this happened?’”

“I know Dillian Whyte is going to come in prepared. He’s going to come in rugged and rough and game and aggressive. And he’s got a big left hook and a big right hand. Who knows? It could be me chinned on the night. I think both fighters are going for the knockout on the night. I just think when I land a ‘Lancaster Bomber’ on his jaw, it’s going to be over. That could be in round one, or it could be in round six. I don’t see it going past that. I’m looking to put on an excellent {fight} and showcase knockout boxing for the UK fans and then sing a load of songs afterwards and have a good time. Party on down in the big smoke!’”

“If I can’t look like Muhammad Ali against this guy, then I’m in the wrong {profession}. I will chop him to bits. Not a problem. I will smash his face right in. You’re going to see a boxing masterclass. You’re going to see the difference in levels.”

“This man is a big old strong fellow who swings a big old punch in and knocks a man spark out if he connects. But if I’m daft enough to get hit off him and knocked out, then I don’t deserve to be heavyweight world champion.”

“I don’t blame him for not being here today because if he were here, I’d have probably stretched him at the press conference. It’s good he’s not here, otherwise I’d be remanded in a London jail cell somewhere. The buildup to this fight will be fantastic because Tyson Fury versus his own shadow sells for sure. I will make sure people are entertained.”

“My personal message to Dillian Whyte today is this: I will win this fight for England and for St. George on St. George’s Day. There we go.”

“He should be here promoting the fight. That’s my opinion, and I think it’s tough luck for him and his family and his legacy going forward.”

Frank Warren

“I’m delighted. It’s great. We’re at Wembley. I think we’re going to sell out just under 100,000 capacity. It’s going to be a special night because you have the lineal champion, the WBC champion who has not been here for four years, not fought in the country for four years.”

“The atmosphere is going to be brilliant. All we need — unfortunately he is not here today — is the other side of the card to show up.”

Brad Jacobs

“Whyte is certainly a credible threat and is one of the top available contenders. It is unprofessional that he is not here today but we will get past that and move on. Everyone is second best to Tyson, in the ring, in personality, in everything.”

  • Whyte is having a hissy fit because he’s only making $8 million.

  • Unless you have illness or family emergency, not showing up for a press conference is inexcusable. This is a business, after all.

  • Its possible, because of the tickets price. VIP price sometimes is very high, but where more than 50k can be seated is kind of affordable (40, 60, 80£). It was the price of Joshua vs Usyk.

  • When a Fury opponent stays quiet like Wilder did, it means they fear him. I give Whyte no chance.

    • This is a dumb statement. Sometimes fighters hold ther anger in and prefer to let their fists do the talking. Talk is cheap and means nothing.

The way you put it is the way an arm chair warrior would think.

  • “Tyson Fury versus his own shadow sells for sure. I will make sure people are entertained.”

This somehow brought to mind the moment when Fury landed the uppercut on himself, to which he supposedly said “That was the best punch I’ve ever taken.” He’s right though. He’s certainly a box office attraction these days, more so than I ever thought possible when I was watching him early in his career….

  • Everyone using the word “Duck” these days, idk why, maybe it sounds cool?? Idk. Reminds me of when people used to say “i have haters” . No bro, ur just a douche and nobody likes you. Maybe that was Whytes stance, he jus didnt wanna hear the bullcrap that was gonna spew out of Furys mouth. Its gonna be no surprise when Fury beats him down in the ring, maybe he jus didnt want multiple beatings?

  • f…… whyte. selfish
unless of course, there is a family medical emergency

  • this should be free tv can not see paying for this might not last 5 rounds

    • Eugene:
      – Purchase the Amazon Fire Stick for $35 and you will watch PPV for free.

      • I don’t have a tv, just computers. Does it work with computers? Do you need something else to make it work, some service or whatever, or just the fire stick and a laptop? I see one there for $30 and $40, not $35. Which r u talking about?

        • If you have a computer it’s even easier….. no need for a firestick. I used to use firestick but got sick of having to update it so I just stream ALL fights on my computer and plug an HDMI into my tv and watch on there.

  • Here’s the thing… save appearing at the pre-fight weigh-in and for the fight itself? He has fulfilled every responsibility he has under the bout contract. To my knowledge he’s not obligated to do pressers, talk with media outlets, or *do* anything beyond, again, (a) get weighed in, and (b) show up for the fight.

  • Seems White feathers doesn’t deserve that title shot after all, behaving like a spoild bratt. Hope Fury shows up in top form and smashes him

  • I don’t blame Whyte for skipping. Fury sounds ridiculous. He’s fighting once a year now.

  • Whyte’s conduct is so pathetic. I don’t think I’ve seen anything this immature in over 40 years of following boxing.

  • White only cares bout the big paycheck. I believe he doubts that he has any chance against Fury so he doesn’t care about promoting the fight or what the fans think of him. He is gonna cash that big paycheck and fade into the sunset.
