‘I’m undisputed at 135, Taylor is undisputed at 140. Hopefully we can make that fight happen and I can become two-time undisputed.

Undisputed lightweight world champion ‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez, (16-0, 12 KOs), swung open the doors to his training camp, City Athletic Boxing Gym in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon for a huge amount of media. Lopez is training for his June 19 PPV clash with undefeated mandatory challenger ‘Ferocious’ George Kambosos Jr. (19-0, 10 KOs) at Miami’s loanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins.

Below are quotes from Lopez at the media workout.

“It feels great to be fighting on the Triller platform, something different with different musical artists. It’s going to be the greatest show this year and I’m excited to show everybody what I’m all about.”

“I don’t look at who I’m fighting, I heard the Selby fight was a close fight. However, Kambosos got the win, got the job done and became my mandatory.”

“One thing I’d like to clear up, the other guys in my division had four months to send me a contract and not one did. So, it all became George Kambosos at the end. I became world champion and undisputed and I want to let everyone know, I don’t duck or dodge anyone. With Kambosos, I’m not overlooking my competition but I’m looking straight through him.”

“I’ve been so focused on myself lately but as far as Josh Taylor or Jose Ramirez put them in front of me and I’ll beat them. Josh Taylor did what he had to do, it was a great fight and a great event. The whole thing for me is making those type of fights happen. Sixteen fights in, I never said no to any fight. It’s up to these other guys to step up. They’re already talking about moving up to 147 and I can already sense the urgency in not wanting to fight me.”

‘I’m undisputed at 135, Taylor is undisputed at 140. Hopefully we can make that fight happen and I can become two-time undisputed. That’s the goal.”

“Triller is very driven and they really want to make their mark. We can talk about different things on the promotional side and they make it happen. With the boxing and the artists performing it’s a phenomenal collaboration. It’s great for the sport of boxing, it’s all entertainment at the end of the day. I’m not a fighter or a boxer, I’m an entertainer.”

“I just have to laugh at Lomachenko’s comments. It’s someone who never took a loss and especially the way I beat him. He’s in the past now. I took his heart, if we were to fight again I’d knock him out. My win over him elevated me to a whole other level.”

“It’s too late now for everyone, the amount of knowledge and ring IQ that I possess and have been working on, there’s no limit to me and I can’t wait to show that on June 19. It’s not about proving anybody wrong, it’s about proving me right.”

  • This is interesting, call outs from the guy at the lower weight class are win-win if you lose you still have your titles at your natural weight class. Taylor calls out Crawford and then Lopez calls out Taylor.

    • Taylor better hope Crawford doesn’t accept his call out. Crawford will beat Taylor silly!

  • Lol GTFOH López you are a clown who twerks like a hoochie chick after you win a fight doing that silly dance. You barely got by Loma who if he’d stepped on the gas mid fight instead of the very end he would have beat you down he already had you retreating and looking bewildered so quit flattering yourself ladyboy

    • I couldn’t agree anymore with you… you are absolutely correct…

    • Until we see Lomo back on or even talking Boxing, Lopez prob knocked the fight out of him.

    • Would have, could have. But did he? So he loss. Whole lot of people could have, would have against Floyd Mayweather but he didn’t allow them. Give Teo Lopez his just dues.

    • Frankie either you don’t understand boxing or you hate Lopez for some reason. Hating Lopez is fine, but the kid can fight.

    • I’m with Franky on this one. Although I had him winning 7-5 against Lomachenko I seen him wilting down the stretch where he didn’t seem so sure of himself when Loma started opening up on him. Taylor will be too much for him too big too powerful.

As far as that dance he does yes it does somewhat look like he’s twerking he looks extremely feminine.

  • Calling each other out is part of the game in boxing. Once the contracts are signed, then it’s a reality. Until it happens, I will not get excited.

    • I’d get more excited if he actually proved himself the best at 135. It’s a talented division and while beating Loma was great, there’s a lot more todo in the division.

  • Taylor too big, even for a 140 pounder. Taylor can fight, box, and gotta hell of a punch. Maybe p4p best. Taylor’s thee top fighter that consistently fights top competition. Cherry pickers should not be on top of p4p list.

    • Taylor P4P best???? He needs to avoid the Welterweight division. Crawford / Spence / Boots Ennis will destroy him. Porter would probably do the same.

  • Teofimo needs to go back to Bob Arum if he expects to go far in the sport.

  • Lopez has some big fights in his own weight class. Maybe he should concentrate there.

  • I think it be a good fight. Let’s not forget that Teo has a touch challenge ahead of him against Kambosos. If he does win then yeah, lets see him fight Taylor at 140 seeing that Kingry is pretty much nowhere to be seen.

  • i agreed w Taylor’s reply on this, let Teo become undisputed at his weight and have it as a massive one

  • I’m a big Crawford guy so I’d love to see Taylor Crawford now. If Lopez wins I’m not sure he moves up or Crawford would get less credit taking on a guy 10lbs less. That credit only goes out there if you’re Spence. If Taylor wins it could be better for Craford because Taylor will be that much bigger in name. Plus Lopez has a lot of unfinished business. Haney, rematch with Loma, Davis if he’s still around.

  • It’s mind boggling how many great fights can be made between 130 up to 147. Grant it, a lot of these guys are still just untested prospects, they still pass the eye test and with the possible exception of Haney they all seem like they’d mesh well against one another.

Teo beat THE man at 135 and holds all the legit titles there, so I love the idea of him and Taylor matching up. Can anyone remember two truly Undisputed Champions meeting in recent years? Since the WBO has become recognized it has never happened. Couple that with Lopez being physically ready to move up sooner rather than later, this seems like a pick ’em.

As for anyone looking for him to stay at 135, remember that he’s not the only one of the rising stars that are simply too big to make 135 much longer. Ryan Garcia is massive at the weight and Tank Davis seems like he’s a candidate to continue to move up further (I know he’s at 130 now), based on his past battle with the scales.

  • Good fight, would love to see it happen. Teo is no Ramirez, more skilled, plus he’s been talking about going to 140 for a while now.

  • All I know is Lopez threw ICBMs when Loma finally decided to get in range. So far, Loma has not provided sufficient, definitive motivation for a rematch against Lopez. We will see how Loma looks in his next fight.

I would love to see a Lopez vs. Taylor fight at 140; but first, I want see Ramirez attempt to recover his boxing pride in a rematch against Taylor.

  • This fight would be great, from Taylor’s perspective you can’t call out other divisions and not refuse the same offer…looks sus. Most who downplaying this fight sound like they are low-key fearful for Taylor losing or just want a Loma rematch…

He can always move up to welter to fight Crawford afterwards, the Loma rematch is always there. This is a time sensitive match-up. When is the last time two undisputed champions met?

  • It’s hard to root for this guy because he’s so arrogant and delusional, but he is the undisputed champ at 135. However, for him to say that Taylor or Ramirez sense the urgency to not fight him is just the kind of thing that gets under people’s skin. I would favor both Taylor and Ramirez to knock him out. He barely got past shopworn and rusty Lomachenko. Anybody who knows how to score a fight had it 115 to 113 for Lopez but nothing more. The Ukrainian is a 130 pounder at best while Josh Taylor is a very large Junior welterweight and would fit right in at 147.

  • Lopez by far is more skillfully and smarter than most of his completion he says he’s gonna do something he does it he don’t duck anyone you will see this kid will go far at the rate he’s going.he will knock you out with a left or right a lot of power
