Surprising Spence-Porter Predictions

IBF welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. is a 9:1 betting favorite over WBC champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter on Saturday’s PPV from Staples Center in Los Angeles. However, in a survey of 25 fighters, legends and trainers, only 15 (60%) pick the heavily favored Spence, while 10 (40%) choose massive underdog Porter. Over/unders? Interestingly, only one expert predicts an outright stoppage (with one additional maybe).

  • spence is in for the fight of his life, porter is no pushover, I can’t see spence KOing porter, this will be be a highly competive fight

  • Porter level was exposed by Yordenis Ugas. Porter is a bit better than average, Spence a bit more than especial. Expect a beating being stopped by Porter’s corner or the referee, around the 10th. I caught a glimpse of what looked like a mercy in the Spence vs. Garcia fight, if that happens again, he will carry Porter to the finish line, in a wide margin UD win

  • It’s like I always said.. Porter will give any fighter problems. He’s just a difficult guy to fight but I see Spence winning this fight. Not sure how, I don’t want to say stoppage because Porter can box too and stay away when he has to but Spence should win a decision.

    • Couldn’t agree more, Porter very underrated fighter. Porter gave Brook a much tougher fight than Spence. Spence was losing badly till Brook suffered that eye injury and was forced to quit otherwise Brook would of won.

Porter all day long, but will be very competitive fight.

  • Ugas, Danny Garcia, and Granados are all former 140 lbs fighters. Those are Porter’s last 3 wins. Granados is going back down to 140 again, and Broner probably is too. Porter was at 154 in 2010. So, Porter is a natural 154 lbs fighter, and liked to feast on smaller fighters moving up in weight. Spence is a big welterweight though. Danny Garcia is a legit welterweight now. Porter defeating Garcia was a good win. Still, Garcia was a pretty inactive guy when he got in the ring with Porter. 1 fight in 18 months for Garcia going into the Porter fight. Porter hasn’t been known as a puncher since the Alfonso Gomez fight in July 2012. Unless Porter can look like Mikey Garcia for the 1st minute of round 5 vs Spence, but sustain it for a long time, I don’t see him doing much.

  • the comments are based on his last fight not stopping Mikey who he said he wasn’t going to stop. Spence ko6

  • Shawn Porter reminds me of a version of Leon Spinks. Not the greatest of talent, but a willingness to do his best as a amateurish caveman. He tries to work off the jab, and when he gets a chance up close, he wings his shots. Not a precision puncher. Not a smart boxer, not much creativity in his shots, very predictable. Broner put him down with a timed shot, a left hook. I see him employing the same techniques against Spence, but he will learn very early on that Spence is too strong for him. He can’t bully Spence, can’t match Spence in power. He’s not faster than Spence, so he can’t surprise Spence with a shot. I see this fight lasting into the late rounds because of Porter’s cautiousness and defensive mindset. But Porter is going to feel the hurt. Depending on how much punishment he can take, I see this fight possibly ending in the middle to late rounds. Spence will show himself to simply be too much for the caveman. Late round stoppage for Spence.

  • Porter has a very aggressive and mauling pressure style, sprinkled with some actual boxing footwork skills. Spence is a rangey, powerful sharp-shooter who is by far, the more fundamental actual boxer.
There won’t be a clear KO in this one and I don’t think Spence will be willing to commit to try and get a TKO and risk getting clipped.
I see 12 rounds scored in Spence’s favor based on clean, concise power shots landed.

  • Most of these fighters picking Porter because they have a relationship with the Porters. Ill be surprised if that many fighters would put actual money on Porter.

  • Spence in a walk. Porter lost to Ugas. Doesn’t fight the whole round, doesn’t hit hard enough. Will eat Spence’s jab all night. Will go down, might be out by 10th round unless Spence takes his foot off the gas. Tough early, easy late. Spence!

  • There Will be no fight ! Spence isn’t a welter he’s more like a junior middle or weight drained Middleweight. He’s more fast, more technically sound and hits way harder.. Mismatch here ! Porter has a good chin and grab his opponents to not allow them To hit him but that won’t be enough against Spence because he’s too strong. Late TKO win for Spence..
