WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) of Las Vegas scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (32-2-1, 15 KOs) of South El Monte, California, on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Haney’s speed and reach won the early rounds. JoJo came on in round four and had some good moments after that, but Haney was mostly in control. Scores were 117-111, 117-111, 116-112.

Haney came out flashy, displaying the hand speed as Diaz had slow start pawing and working the jab in the opening round. In the second, Haney kept letting his hands go with Diaz working his way in leading with the jab and getting inside getting rough. Diaz began to attack downstairs in round three, Haney continued to show hand speed outworking Diaz but the challenger appeared to be gaining ground inside. It got rough in the fourth as Diaz attempted to connect to the body shoved Haney to the ground, moments later Diaz connected with a solid straight left that got the champ’s attention. Junior middleweight Damian “Samurai” Sosa (19-1, 10 KOs) an eight round unanimous decision over bubble star “Cassius” Clay Collard (9-5-3, 4 KOs) on Saturday night at the Stockton Auditorium in Stockton, California. Close rounds with judges preferring the aggressive Sosa 79-73, 78-74, 80-72.

Collard defeated three straight unbeaten fighters in 2020, but the clock eventually struck midnight and he dropped two straight. After a stint in MMA, Collard returned to boxing tonight.

In the co-feature, unbeaten super lightweight Manuel Jaimes (12-0-1, 10 KOs) kayoed former WBA interim super bantam champ Moises Flores (25-5-1, ) at 2:12 of round two.

After a tense 52-second face-off, Tank turned to the audience and flexed. Cruz did the same. There was some jostling and Tank pushed Cruz. The fighters were then quickly separated.

Super lightweight prospect Montana Love (17-0-1, 9 KOs) from Cleveland stopped Carlos Diaz (29-2, 14 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico in three rounds on Saturday night in the Haney-Diaz co-feature at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Love popped the jab in the opening round as Diaz stalked attempting to get inside on Love, there was a light clash of heads but there was not cut. Love scored three knockdowns in round two and finally put him away in the third as a flurry of unanswered punches forced referee Raul Caiz Jr. to stop the fight at 1:22.

Undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill (11-2, 3 KOs) of Chicago retained her titles by crushing Kandi Wyatt (10-4, 3 KO’s) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. McCaskill came out aggressively attacking and connecting with solid with hands snapping Wyatt’s head back. In round two, Wyatt gained her composure and used the jab but McCaskill kept coming working her way inside. Patiently boxing in round three, McCaskill connected Wyatt with a solid one-two combo. Wyatt’s face was busted up in the fourth as McCaskill picked her shots. Connecting precisely in the fifth, McCaskill took it to Wyatt and continued doing a number on her.McCaskill kept the pressure and the referee had finally seen enough stopping the fight at 19 seconds of the seventh.

Undefeated heavyweight Filip Hrgovic (14-0, 12 KOs) stopped Emir Amatovich (10-1, 7 KOs) in three rounds. It was a slow first round but Hrgovic landed big shots on Amatovich. Patiently boxing in round two, Hrgovic dropped Amatovich twice and finished him off in round three as the referee stopped it after another knockdown at 30 seconds.

In a WBO light heavyweight eliminator, former world title challenger Anthony Yarde (22-2, 21 KOs) impressively knocked out previously unbeaten #1 rated Lyndon Arthur (19-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London. Yarde came out extremely aggressive and didn’t let up. No pacing himself. He punished Arthur for four rounds, getting him out of there with a huge right hand. Time was 1:27. Yarde avenges a split decision loss to Arthur 12 months ago.

In a closely fought slugfest South Africa’s Roarke Knapp came back from three big knockdowns in the third round to stop Cape Town based Angolan Christiano Ndombassy in the fifth round to win the vacant WBA Pan African middleweight title at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on Saturday night.

In a nationally televised promotion, IBF #3 cruiserweight Jai Opetaia (21-0, 17 KOs) stopped Daniel Russell (7-3-2, 4 KOs) in round two on Saturday at the Fortitude Valley Music Hall, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on Foxtel television network and Kayo Sports. Opetaia is expected to challenge IBF cruiserweight champion Mairis Breidis early in 2022, as has been ordered by the IBF.

Opetaia said, “I can’t wait man. We got this one out of the way, now we can just focus mainly on that world title shot. We’re just going to build fitter, stronger, faster every day.”

In other action, IBF #15 middleweight Issac Hardman (12-0, 10 KOs) stopped late sub Adam Stowe (6-3-2, 4 KOs) in round four of a scheduled ten round bout for the IBF Australasian and Australian title. The corner of Stowe threw the towel into the ring. Afterward, Hardman vowed “I’m going to smash that Michael Zerafa’s head in.”

Former WBA heavyweight champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (30-3, 26 KOs) scored a come-from-behind seventh round knockout over former Australian champion Faiga Opelu (14-3-1, 10 KOs) in a scheduled ten round bout to capture the WBA Oceana title.

Fighters competing on the Gervonta Davis vs. Isaac Cruz Showtime PPV undercard taking place this Sunday previewed their respective showdowns during a press conference Friday before they enter the ring in a Premier Boxing Champions event from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

European super welterweight Kerman “Revolver” Lejarraga (34-2, 26 KOs) retained his title with a spectacular ninth round KO against Jack “Quiet Storm” Flatley (17-2-1, 4 KOs) on Friday night at the Bilbao Arena in Bilbao, Spain. Lejarraga dropped Flatley in round eight, then in the following round a massive Lejarraga right hand laid out Flatley for several minutes. No time announced.

Unbeaten lightweight Campbell Hatton (5-0, 1 KO) got his first KO against Attila Csereklye (10-25, 8 KOs). Rebounding from his controversial win over Sonni Martinez in September, Hatton dropped Csereklye twice in round one and again in round two to end it. Hatton is the son of ring great Ricky Hatton. Nine straight losses for Csereklye.

Keyshawn Davis, the lightweight star who earned a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has a golden chance to shine on one of boxing’s biggest platforms. Davis (3-0, 2 KOs), in his first fight since signing a long-term deal with Top Rank, will face Mexican veteran Jose Zaragoza (8-3-1, 2 KOs) in a six-round bout Saturday, Dec. 11 on the undercard of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Richard Commey lightweight main event.

Middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh (2-0, 2 KOs), grandson of “The Greatest,” Muhammad Ali, will fight fellow unbeaten Reyes Sanchez (6-0, 2 KOs) in the four-round televised opener.

Golovkin-Murata, Ioka-Ancajas postponed

The emergent omicron virus has called off a couple of world title bills on Friday here in Japan. Teiken Promotions has announced the greatly anticipated middleweight unification bout of WBA super champion Ryota Murata and IBF titleholder Gennady Golovkin on December 29 is called off due to the government’s ban of any foreigner to enter Japan.

A special permit wasn’t made even for such a big show that all our fight fans are so much eager to watch with greatest expectations. Also, another unification bout between WBO 115-pound ruler Kazuto Ioka and IBF titlist Jerwin Ancajas on New Year Eve will be canceled by the same reason. This morning we experienced a considerably big earthquake in the Tokyo area, but our fistic world also got terribly shaken up with the shocking cancellations.

Fast-rising unbeaten lightweight, IBF#15 Hironori Mishiro (11-0-1, 4 KOs), 133.5, impressively decked a fine TKO victory over formerly world-rated Kazuhiro Nishitani (21-6-1, 12 KOs), 132.75, at 2:01 of the sixth round on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan. Having scored an important win over ex-WBO champ Masayuki Ito in his previous bout, Mishiro collected another victim in Nishitani, whom he dropped with a well-timed right in round five and flattened with another vicious right in the fatal session.

In the semi-windup, Chaoz Minowa (7-3, 6 KOs), 111.75, acquired the vacant OPBF female flyweight belt by stopping Yumemi Ikemoto (7-2, no KO), 111, at 1:20 of the second round in a scheduled two-minute eight. Minowa badly decked Ikemoto with a solid left hook in second, and her follow-up prompted the referee’s intervention.

The Golden Gloves Promotions tournament to be held at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday night is scheduled to go ahead despite several withdrawals and setbacks due to the Covid 19 virus. This is a box-and-dine event and will be shown live on SS209 Variety Four from 7pm to 11pm.

The main event between Brandon Thysse and Roarke Knapp for the WBA Pan African junior middleweight title was cancelled when Thysse was reported to have tested positive for Covid 19 virus.

However, after hasty and clever negotiations the Golden Gloves Promotions team, brought in the Cape Town-based Christiano Ndombassy (12-5, 9 KOs) from Angola to meet Knapp (12-1-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBA Pan African middleweight title. WBA #2 ranked heavyweight Michael ‘The Bounty’ Hunter II (20-1-2, 14 KOs) and Jerry ‘Slugger’ Forrest (26-4-2, 20 KOs) battled to a hard-fought ten round draw on Thursday night at The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Forrest landed the heavier punches and busted up Hunter, but judges scored it 96-94 Hunter, 96-94 Forrest, 95-95. Forrest gets his second straight upset draw.

In a clash between undefeated heavyweights, former NFL player Mike Balogun (18-0, 14 KOs) destroyed Trey Lippe-Morrison (18-1, 17 KOs), the son of former world champion Tommy Morrison, in the first round. Balogun dropped Morrison, then swarmed him and got the referee’s stoppage. Time was 2:41.

In another clash between undefeated heavyweights, ‘Gentleman’ George Arias (17-0, 7 KOs) took a workmanlike ten round split decision over Cassius ‘C.O.G.’Chaney (21-1, 14 KOs). Arias pressed the action while Chaney never got untracked. Scores were 96-94 Chaney, 99-91, 97-93 Arias.

Heavyweight “Mighty” Joe Jones, (13-4, 9 KOs) knocked out Junior ‘Hurricane’ Wright, (18-4-1, 15 KOs) in round two. Jones floored Wright in round one and finished him 13 seconds into round two.

Light heavyweight Khainell Wheeler (6-1, 5 KOs) outscored previously undefeated Frederic “The French Revolution” Julan (12-1, 10 KOs) over six rounds. Wheeler won by scores of 59-55, 59-55, 58-56.
