  • good fight ! congratulations to both fighters. . hopefully we see mungia back soon in a top fight and of course Canelo vs Benavidez. good night for boxing . i loved those national anthems.

  • First of all I don’t think Canelos is scared of anybody, hell mostly all fighters are not afraid of fighting some might be cautious in their performance once they get to feel out their opponent but just because they one fighter does not challenge another fighter it is most likely not out of fear but a strategic financial move
Canelos vs Benavidez could happen maybe next year if the demand is crazy right now imagine how much more lucrative it will be next year, but also being realistic they both gotta continue to win to not lose that hype interest
I see Canelos facing off against Berlanga in September and Benavidez staying at 175
I only hope that when they do fight it’s at 175
That’s just my personal preference for that match
Canelos can make 175 easier than Benavidez making 168
With neither fighter being affect physically and perform at a peak level

    • I agree with you. Canelo is not scared. Its the bitter haters that say that not realizing he’s fought everyone. they (bitter haters) will never be happy no matter who he fights and beats.

      • Canelo is not scarfed; fighters are not scared, they are professional fighters. All respect to Canelo, but, as other top fighters’ done in the past, he will go with the least risk options. He may not be scared of Benavides, but he may be afraid of losing the fight, and how he feels may tarnish his already great legacy.

        • He’s avoiding his ass at all cost for a reason, the same way when Floyd was thought to be the best he stayed the hell away from Paul the Punisher Williams! No difference

      • “everyone” except Benavidez. So you’re saying you’d rather see Canelo vs Jaime over Canelo vs Benavidez? Stop the cap and the young folks would say lol.

    • i agree with everything you said except when they fight it would be in Canelos best interest to keep it at 168 hell he fought a cruiserweight in Munguia so you know damn well Benavidez will be a heavyweight or hell do a same day weigh in

      • We don’t hear about how many times Canelo has fought smaller fighters (Khan, Lopez for example, and he would show up considerably heavier than his opponent. Or the rehydration clauses, giving him some advantage (Jacobs, among others). Others have done the same before…, but to me, these are some of the reasons real boxing fans will see Chavez, Sanchez, Olivares, above Canelo. All things said, Canelo is one great fighter. The only thing some (or many) don’t like about him is the fact that he chose intelligently his opponent. I think that this “Side A” approach when choosing opposition and conditions, and how he talks at times about it is why many don’t like him (just like Mayweather). Or saying first that he didn’t need to fight Golovkin for a third time, only to wait to fight a 40 yr. old, inactive GGG. Or stating he would not fight mexican boxers, just when a fight with Zurdo was a possibility tat many were looking at, to finally fight Munguia, while ducking Benavidez, who for years has been official contender… Again, he could very well win all these fights, but they could have been real wars, the ones mexican fans would have loved to see, and which would have make him an idol of the level of Chavez or Marquez. Note, I am not talking about his accomplishments or his tremendous skills, but the one thing that in my opinion, leave him below great mexican warriors who have given tremendous fights to remember, regardless of whether they won or lost. He’s just another type of fighter, doing things he learned from people like Mayweather, and receiving the same treatment as him. At the end of the day, he is building a legacy, and making tons of money for him and for many others. Congratulations to Canelo. Congratulations to Munguia.

        • Pretty well said . His so called intelligent choosing of fighters .. picking out a not ready shop worn Sergei Kovalev recovering from his hard fight with Anthony Yarde , Sergei said he had no choose but to take the fight knowing he was not recovered .

  • Canelo has had all the belts in different weight divisions, he has nothing left to prove! He has been champion almost since the beginning of his career til’ this day and has been enjoying the popularity in the boxing game that very few can achieve! Many haters might not like him but, his achievements cannot go unnoticed in the boxing world. As for those haters saying that his legasy will be blemished for not fighting benavidez, it won’t! All benavidez wants is a big check just as everyone else in the division! If mayweather was able to cash in as he pleased why not canelo? $150-$200 million and he’s ready to fight benavidez, he’s not ducking him, he wants a nice check to close his career and legacy. Besides, he will be fighting a cruiser/heavyweight fighter in benavidez! His size and the extra weight he’ll bring are worth what canelo is asking for in $!

  • these arguments can go on back and forth forever until or if they fight . i am getting tired and bored with of all this [ arguments, insults, haters, fanatics, etc. ] . as a boxing fan , i just want to see the best fights with the best fighters. but now a days that is asking for too much …….

  • Mungia fought well last night, and was a credit to himself. In the 1st 3 rounds, he was on the front foot, using the jab, and bringing the fight to canelo. Canelo’s guard is under-rated. He keeps both gloves in front of his face, with his chin down, and also keeps his elbows tucked in, so it’s hard to bring his hands down with body-shots. Mungia did everything correctly, but canelo’s defence was too good. Also, Mungia was punching *AT* canelo, instead of punching *THRU* him. I’ll have to watch the Bivol fight again to figure out how the hell Bivol broke thru canelo’s defence. Mungia is a good fighter, and will have learned from this experience.

    • It was a stylistic nightmare for Canelo. Movers who throw constantly will be a nightmare for everyone. If you sit in the pocket too long, Canelo will counter over and over.

  • canelo has tremendous experience and great “eyes”, he could see most of mungia punches coming . he also got mungia to fight on the inside giving up his height and reach advantage. all that and canelo’s defense, and ring i.q was too much . also mungia hand speed was not affecting canelo . mungia lack of higher quality opposition in the past hurt him too. mungia will learn a lot from this fight but he needs better high level fights to sharpen his skills.

  • Canelo won in a good fight. He still refuses to fight Benavidez his reasons are hard to comprehend

  • i didnt see the wbc -sulaiman at the fight . wba, wbo were there. maybe trouble in wbc paradise ? hmmm

  • Munguia was a HUGE fighter on fight night. I always have concerns about fighters who far exceed the division’s weight limit on fight night – is this approach planned or does a fighter need to seek challenges in a higher division? When it occurs, I believe this is planned by most fight camps.

Although Munguia was much larger, he fought well, but he had to deal with Canelo. Canelo remained calm against a much larger opponent, and he was a “thinking man’s fighter.”Canelo’s defense was solid, and his punch selections were performed well.

Munguia’s pressure and swarming, hard shots would have snatched the heart(s) from most opponents at 168, but he ran into a smart, tough, cagey guy (Canelo). I believe Munguia can defeat Mbilli and destroy Berlanga. I need to see Morrell fight 1-2 tougher opponents because Morrell’s style may cause MAJOR difficulties for Munguia.

If he continues making 168, Munguia will obtain a title(s) AFTER Canelo retires and IF Benavidez permanently goes to 175 (or retires). Morrell is my only concern for Munguia, but I am initially inclined to favor Munguia – I need to see Morrell fight a tougher opponent (or two) before making a final decision. It appears Morrell has the goods.

Oh yeah, Barrios is putting himself together quite nicely at 147. I can see Barrios/Stanionis or Barrios/Ennis – fans under the influence or sober will LOVE IT!!

  • Jaime, do you think it’s possible that maybe Oscar want to sleep with you now since you are a loser like he was to Canelo?

    • Please respect the rules in this site. This is intended for boxing fans speaking with intelligence and respect

  • It would have been a better fight if Alvarez would have fights with boxers the fans want to see. Canelo is an excellent fighter — but clearly he’d rather make that money, than to go down as Mexico’s greatest. If you paid to see this fight, you’re part of the problem of why we don’t see the best fighting the best.
