WBC unveils Union Belt

Union Belt Wbc 1024x576The World Boxing Council has introduced the Union Belt, to be presented as a special trophy to the winner of the fight between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and WBC interim heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte. The Union belt extols special elements to celebrate and commemorate the United Kingdom through boxing.

According to some reports, the target date for Fury vs Whyte is Saturday, April 23. The fight is set to take place in the UK, with Cardiff’s Principality Stadium eyed as the most likely venue. This is due to the fact it has a roof and so can hold big events year-round. However, other football stadium options may be considered with the spring date opening the possibility of an open-air event.

  • WBC’s sanctioning fees
According to the WBC guidelines, the first sanctioning fees for any title fight comes from the promoter. The promoters have to pay an annual registration fee, which is in the range of $7000. Furthermore, for every fight, they have to pay between $5000-$25,000. This depends on the type of title and weight category.
As for the boxers themselves, they have to pay 3% of all their fight earnings, including PPV earnings, broadcast, and any other mode of earning. And this includes earnings not only by the fighter but by anyone who receives money on his behalf. Furthermore, for gross earning up to $100,000, a minimum of $3000 is to be paid by the champion and $1000 by the challenger. For vacant belts both pay $2000.
The $100000 is just anexample I guess, or do you think this vultures would be happy with only $5000 in a fight of this magnitude ?

  • One thing about being a good fighter if you could obtain a belt, you would always have it even if you lose the title.

  • An attractive belt for once. While I greatly prefer boxing’s championship belts to the “wrestling style” of belt, none of the “big four” sanctioning bodies really have attractive belts.

The WBC’s for example would be considerably more attractive (a) if the strap weren’t green, and (b) they used different fonts for “WBC” and “World Champion.” The white is truly distinctive.

  • ”The Union belt extols special elements to celebrate and commemorate the United Kingdom through boxing”. WTF.
