WBC Talks: Christy Salters Martin

“The Coal Miner’s Daughter” told us about her history as a pioneer of women’s boxing, her biggest fights, involving opening cards prior to Julio César Chávez and Mike Tyson. Christy also talked about the horrors of domestic violence, that she suffered and how she was able to survive and overcome it, in order to inspire other women.

  • Christy Martin grew up in Mullens, WV. I have been there on a visit and it’s very poor per say. Coal mining is the main source of income and today, it’s dwindling. Props to Martin for taking chances in life and getting in the spotlight at one time as a prize fighter.
