In another step of the World Boxing Association’s (WBA) world title reduction plan, the WBA Championships Committee ordered the bout between featherweight super champion Leo Santa Cruz and regular champion Leigh Wood. The goal is to have only one champion at 126 pounds and the winner of this bout will have this distinction.
Both teams will have 30 days to negotiate the bout from the moment the communication was sent to them on Wednesday, April 6. In case they do not reach an agreement or any of the parties refuses to close the negotiation, the WBA Championships Committee may open the bout to purse bid pursuant to its rules.
If Santa Cruz is close to what he can be he should win this. Good fight though. Looking forward to it
Wood is certainly a tough sob and has the heart of a lion. After Conlan fights first round I expected a blow out but he just keep chipping away until he got the spectacular finish
I like Leo as a fighter but f-k the WBA. Cruz hasn’t fought at 126 since 2019 and somehow he’s still the champion??? They are a total joke.
This is a fine fight, should be action-packed. They’ll stand right in front of each other and throw tons of punches every round for as long as it lasts. LSC is better, he’ll win unless he’s fallen off a cliff or he gets caught.
But I think the fact that he has to fight this for the biggest WBA title is unfair as hell to Wood. He beat Xu Can who was the regular WBA champion and then he beat Conlan who was interim…. while Santa Cruz was fighting in another weight class, had won a WBA title in that weight class, fought and loss for another super WBA title in a weight class and that took two fights and more than three years now.

Would not be suprised that Santa Cruz can’t make the weight when the fight does happen.
