Scott Harrison retires

The comeback of two-time WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison (27-3-2, 15 KOs) is now over. The 44-year-old Harrison was slated to return to the ring on Saturday against Razak Nettey (22-5, 16 KOs) at the Rivals Gym, Wishaw, Scotland, but the fight was scrapped when Nettey pulled put just before their fight.

Harrison announced on social media, “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. More bad memories than good. Should have kept working for the council as a joiner. All the best. God Bless.”

  • More bad memories than good lol ! It seems that someone is pissed off ! I understand it because at 44 it’s not like he has the time to wait another 4 or 5 months.

  • I’m wondering if he were going to make this his final fight anyway. If not…. I wouldn’t be surprised if, after the anger and emotion of it falling out at the last minute subsides, that old Scotty was back in the ring. Wish him well in any case.

    • Lucie I watched the card. Total garbage. From the production to the announcers to the fights. Didnt even bother to give records or scheduled rounds. Looked like someone with a camcorder showing the fight

      • I’m not surprised Johnny. They said it was in a gym and I think I read that they had two 4-0 fighters in a 12 round fight so, yeah doesn’t sound like the biggest event.

  • Poor Scott. Back in the days when he was actively fighting, boxing sites always preceded his name with the moniker “Troubled” Scott Harrison. Hope things turn around for you, Scott.

  • Hey Scott, before giving up the sport, I would like you to consider a Farewell Fight with Augie (Kid Vegas) Sanchez at Light weight 135 Lbs. if interested have your people call me. He has been retired for Ten years but would like to have one more crack at a meaningful Fight! Vegas or Scotland…Let’s Talk! 702-340-2917.

    • Augie Sanchez – now there’s a name that I haven’t heard in a long time.

    • Augie was a tough kid but suffered brutal KO losses in his younger years. Not a great idea now older when injuries are more common with boxers. Augie is a gentleman and had a good career but why risk his health?

      • I believe Augie went out on a stretcher in 2 different fights….against Hamed & John Michael Johnson. Not sure Sanchez-Harrison qualifies as a “meaningful” fight at this point, but I’d take a look out of curiosity I suppose…

        • USF i got another one for you. Remember heavyweight Phil Jackson who came up with the Police Athletic League in Miami? Was sullose to be another Tyson.

          • @Johnny Yep. Remember him well. Actually got a shot at Lewis but came up short. Pretty good fighter though

    • Used to love Augie Sanchez. Harrison – Sanchez in 2022…. I’d watch it!

      • Lucie I remember back in the day Top Rank had a pr guy named Lee Samuels who was so high on Sanchez being from the hometown and all. I remember calling Samuels for the results and Sanchez was knocked out in the 1st round by a sub-500 fighter i think Garcia.

        • Yep, an Edgar Garcia knocked Augie out in the first round in LA in April 1998. Boxrec actually has a summary of the right.

“Sanchez had Garcia down and Garcia got up very wobbly. As Sanzhez went for the kill he was caught with a shot that put him down. Sanchez got up immiedatly and his seemed to be ok but the ref stopped the bout. Many people thought the stoppage was premature.”

Edgar Garcia ended up at 10-16-2, having been stopped 8 times. He fought a few guys I remember. Willie Jorrin, Pedro Pena, Pete Frissina and Angel Vasquez.

  • How many times is Harrison going to “retire”. He will be announcing his comeback next month!
