Morrell: I’m going to knock Benavidez out cold

Undefeated WBA “regular” super middleweight champion David Morrell Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs) has his eyes on the main event this Saturday night between David Benavidez and David Lemieux.

“I am watching Benavidez vs. Lemieux carefully this weekend on Showtime” said Morrell. “I want the winner, and I am not being shy about it. I feel I am the best fighter in the division, and it is clear that no one wants to fight me. So, I have to call people out because I am so heavily avoided.”

Morrell, who has been out of the ring since his destruction of veteran Alantez Fox last December, has put a target on David Benavidez’ back.

“I saw that Benavidez mentioned my name with Jermall Charlo and Caleb Plant, well I’m here to let him know that I’m not afraid of him like these guys are, I’m ready to fight him anytime, anywhere,” continued Morrell, who resides and represents the Twin Cities of Minneapolis, Minnesota. “If Benavidez dares to step in the ring with me, it will be like when his brother Jose got wrecked by Crawford. There’s going to be another Benavidez on the deck and his name is going to be David, not Jose. I’m putting a target on Benavidez’ back, I’m aiming to take him out.”

Morrell has been fast-tracked since turning pro, and despite only having six fights, has already captured a world title.

“I came to America to challenge the best fighters in the world like I did internationally in the amateurs for my countrymen of Cuba,” concluded Morrell. “When Benavidez and I step in the ring, it will be a monumental showdown, a fight everyone will be clamoring to see. I’m going to knock him out cold and establish myself as the next superstar in boxing.”

  • he is for real and does not refer to himself in third person. Bravery is what boxing stands on. Good for Morel. Benevedes is a big mouth who has not fought enough good guys to act like he is king. He has flaws . Lots of it is his personality.

    • He’s a good fighter but he doesn’t hold a world title. These San ionic bodies are as bad as the judges. You cannot elevate a champion to a higher championship and then have 2 guys fight for a regular championship and then call it a world title. Ludicrous.

    • Just adding Lemieux’s name makes the fight sound appealing because the guy can definitely bang, but let’s face it-this will not be a competitive fight. Benavidez will pick him apart like batting practice. I always hope I’m wrong on these predictions- there’s nothing better in boxing than a huge upset.

      • I agree, Lemieux fights too front foot heavy and keeps his head right in the line of an uppercut, while waiting to explode on his opponent. This will give the Mexican-American the opportunity to pretty much tee off and step out of range at an angle like he does. The French Canadian can always keep it interesting with his lights out power, but I don’t see him winning many rounds or going the distance.

        • “The Mexican American”…”The French Canadian”.. you sound like you’re doing boxing commentary for SKYsport in the UK lol.

  • I would be fully on board for this one but Benavidez isn’t having many more fights at 168

  • Ok, Morrell called Benavidez out before and that’s understandable, but to say he’s going to knock him out cold is just laughable and immature. Morrell has the pedigree but I don’t know if he has that level of strength and power to spark Benavidez out like that.

    • Morrell needs at least two years of seasoning to face Benavidez….to have a chance.

  • I used to like Benavidez but I got tired of his big mouth always talking shit about how he’s going to dismantle and KTFO of his opponents and how everyone’s scared of him bla bla bla. It became such a turn off and now here for once someone’s talking that same shit about him and it feels good to see that.

I think David Morrell has the pedigree and the solid goods to make good in his word, he is one bad ass Cuban who can fight. I will be cheering for Morrell to shut this big mouth up! The bully will be thrashed and beaten up. I seriously doubt Benavidez wants anything to do with Morrell so I doubt we’ll ever see it.

  • Just like Boo Boo Andrade, Morrell is a boring fighter that has fought no body except taxie drivers and a washed up “Has been”.
    Benavidez in 2!

  • SAMPSON MADE IT CLEAR BENAVIDEZ WILL NOT FIGHT YOU… Lets go SAMPSON,,,,,, Make the fight,,,, PBC has both sides… Easy to make,

  • be carefull what you ask for, Benavidez could destroy your career and KO.

  • Morrell ain’t there yet. As of this moment, if they were to step in the ring, Benavides smokes him. He needs a few more tricks in his arsenal before making the jump.
