In an IBF lightweight eliminator, unbeaten IBF #3 ranked Gustavo Daniel Lemos (27-0, 18 KOs) of Argentina defeated former world champion and #4 ranked Lee Selby (28-4, 9 KOs) of the United Kingdom by fifth round TKO. The event took place at the famed Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.
The fight began with Selby moving but landing to possibly edge round one. Lemos came out with a furious offensive attack to Selby’s body in round two. Selby took the shots and countered well. The tone of the fight would continue at the same pace in round three. Round four saw Selby take a serious pounding to the head and body for a good portion of the second half of the round and he finally took a knee at the end of the round but beat the count. Lemos went in for the finish in round five dropping Selby twice. The referee waved off the bout after the second knockdown. Lemos is now the IBF mandatory for undisputed champion George Kambosos.
Lemos is doing it backwards. He had 4 ko’s in his first 13 fights and now has 14 ko’s in his last 15 fights, including nine straight. Stepped up the competition and started taking everyone out.
Slow starter so needs more than 4 rounds to get going?
That’s a good point, let’s see. Okay, by my count, he has 5 ko’s after the fourth round. That might have something to do with it.
He started fighting at 140 and 147. Too short to fight in those weights. Now fighting at 135, he has more power and speed
tim gets hit much too much
Selby is finished, coming up from jr. lightweight to lightweight has not been good for him, he does not have the strength for that.
