Federal lawsuit filed against BoxRec, ABC

Boxers Brendon Denes and Ivana Habazin, Habazin’s manager Charles Muniz, and promoter Edward Mendy have filed a lawsuit in United States District Court against Boxrec and the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC), among others. The 102-page complaint charges that Boxrec, recognized as boxing’s official record keeper by the ABC, is suppressing the results of certain professional bouts in their database, thus damaging the boxers who rely on their professional records to maximize fight bookings and earnings. • There is validity to this. And it is disgusting. Boxrec should be punished. Just like Disney should be punished for some of their shenanigans. The best way to avoid these issues is to follow rules.

I personally know of a few boxers who did not have their records properly recorded. On a few occasions, the losers have been falsely reported as the winners. Trust me. Boxrec needs to make dramatic changes, or they will lose their credibility.

  • BoxRec doesn’t include pro fights sanctioned by certain organizations, such as BIBA (British & Irish Boxing Authority). It sucks for a kid to be 5-0 and not have all his wins included on his record. Really unfair.

  • The owners wife came in and started to decide what shows she would allow with no precedent or guidelines for people to follow.many fake fights are included in records and many real fights omitted

  • What a bunch of crying b…. ! It’s scary how the world falls appart.. A lawsuit against a database who’s there to bring knowledge to the boxing world in general and not to make money.. The dude must have some shitty fight for Charly Z’s UBC sanctioning bodies not written on his boxrec record and they filing a lawsuit LOL !

  • Dangerous in my options as if a fighters record isn’t right or up to date then matching said fighters could be Dangerous especially in this sport. Transparency and recording accurately of all pro fights is a must.

  • I speak with honesty when I say this.. I wish boxing record would compromise but Dr. Marina..is tough lady, she won’t even accept evidence of a tape of fight; unless she gets it from the one designate person to report the boxing results which kind of creates a monopoly.. I’m not saying that one person is bad, but they can’t be at all places all the time. Some promoters are well capable of promoting shows and recording the results of tapes of evidence.. but Boxrec.com won’t take boxing record scores from them and actually their decisions are hurting many boxers who participate in the sport of boxing because they depend on rankings.. Especially in China..

  • One of my fights was missing from BoxRec and I had to show documentation with a boxing commissioner’s signature in order to have the win added to my record.
