Canelo back with PBC

Canelo Alvarez has announced that he has a “done deal” with Premier Boxing Champions and will return in September. Reportedly Canelo inked a three-fight pact and will defend his undisputed super middleweight title on September 16, probably against WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

Edwards-Bam is signed

Promoter Eddie Hearn has announced that a flyweight unification clash between IBF champion Sunny Edwards and WBO champ Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez is signed and will take place “in November or December on the West Coast in America.”

    • Here we go … people crying why canelo did not fight charlo and now when are sign up there will be thousands of excuses from charlo fans

      • The issue is he hasn’t been in the ring in over two years, he’ll definitely have ring rust should’ve taken a tune up fight to shake the rust and get his timing right.

  • Just doesn’t make any sense?! Gonna fight Charlo whom hasn’t fought in over 2 years and in a weight class he never fought in! Furthermore, dude never even fought the top competition in his own weight category. Which means that a Benavidez fight won’t take place until May or September of 2024! This is some real BullShit!!

  • Makes no sense since Charlo needs a tune up fight to get some ring rust out. Unless Charlo is broke and needs some money, was offered a ton of money, or this is some propaganda to inflate media coverage on the fighters, I don’t see it happening in a few months.

    • Agreed. To make this happen a few hurdles need to be passed. Pair up Jacobs vs Charlo first. Jacobs is getting up there and has been relatively inactive. This would give a common opponent of “substance” that would create some hype, if Charlo passed the test with flying colors, or at the very least match Canelos performance against him. Give Canelo a name fighter but no one like Andrade(just won’t happen) and then set them up mid 24.

    • You’re so dumb that you are trying to insult Canelo but you don’t realize you are just showing and proving how good he actually is and how good YOU think he is.

Jermall Charlo is a “cherry picked” opponent for Canelo but yet Charlo is young and even with a lay off he is still a very good young and undefeated fighter in his physical prime and is naturally equal to CANELO in size and shouldn’t be considered and easy fight for anyone.

But you’re saying this is such a easy fight……. Again, it’s just speaking to how good Canelo actually is that fighters like Jermall Charlo are considered easy fights or “cherry picked” opponents.

You probably said the same thing about Bivol.

  • Just in charlo can’t weigh more than 162 and hydration clause of 164 on fight day.

  • Makes all the sense in the world if you’re Canelo and his team.

Boxing is, and has always been about timing!

It’s not a cherry pick if your targeting the undefeated WBC Champion of the world.

Shame on Charlo and his team if he’s not actively in the gym and perfecting his craft, that’s their problem. If you’re a fighter, especially a decorated one, then you should always be ready and conducting yourself like a true champ would.

Props to team Charlo if they accept the offer!

    We’ll see.

  • If you REALLY want to see Canelo – Benavidez and this is true, you should be very happy. Presuming they both continue to win, there’s no way that fight doesn’t happen at some point during this contract. Most of Canelo’s competition at 168 would be with PBC, including two of his mandatories so I’m curious to see which 3, or 2 after Charlo, they put him in with.

    • It is interesting. Contract is for 3 fights. We would think Benavidez is in there. Charlo appears to be in. So I would think that leaves Andrade and Morrell jockeying for the 3rd spot? Now that is assuming Benavidez is the 2nd fight and that Canelo manages to get by him. The second part of that is no sure thing.

      • I think Benavidez’ next fight should be against Morrell or Andrade, so you eliminate someone from that equation. If he does beat Charlo & Benavidez, hypothetically…. I’d probably say go do whatever you want Canelo. If you want to go back up to 175, go right ahead.

  • Charlo has called out Canelo for years, and if this pops off, will finally get his shot. He hasn’t fought in two years, nor at SM, so clearly, Canelo has the advantage in terms of activity, but maybe Charlo is more rested. I would take the fight if I was Charlo as this would be his highest “payday” and his athleticism and boxer puncher style with a good jab, should give Canelo trouble. Look how easy he beat Derevyanchenko, who took GGG to the brink. Make it happen!

    • He beat the snot out of Derevyanchenko, but he also got caught clean… OVER & OVER AGAIN. He hurt him a number of times but was never able to close the show, which I have seen in some of his other fights too.
In boxing it is all about the matchups, Hearns knocked OUT Duran, Duran beat Leonard, Duran & Leonard go the distance with Hagler, but Hagler murders Tommy.

  • I feel like they buried the lead here.

The title should be “Canelo vs Charlo in the works for Sept. 16”.

Not, “*******BOXING BUZZ******…………… CANELO BACK WITH PBC!!!!!!!!!!!!…………………………… Oh and btw, Canelo vs Charlo is probably gonna be his first fight back on September 16th, k bye”.

  • Charlo has been out 2 plus years and this is who Canelo fights first. Glad Badou Jack didn’t cave in to Canelo’s challenge to fight at 180. Too bad for Charlo. He could use a tune up but probably needs the money. He should go straight to Benavidez

  • Hmmm. Doubt the fight happens. A partnership of sorts, even for 3 fights makes sense since they(PBC/Canelo) follow the exact same playbook.

My guess for an opponent would be someone at the PBC who’s long in the tooth and needs to be cancelled. This would give Charlo the opportunity to get some rust off the blade and perhaps, depending on his performance and the financial interests, a fight might happen, say around May of 24.

  • Charlo doomed He can’t knock out Canelo and judges ALWAYS give Canelo extra 3-5 rounds. Automatic decision win for Canelo regardless what happens

  • Canelo making sure he takes the proper steps to shut the mouths of his haters, if he fights Charlo and wins he will get no respect cause the excuse although true of Charlo being inactive is not Canelos fault nor problem…actually its a higher risk low reward situation for Canelo
The next 2 will be interesting
    Benavidez, Morrell, Spence who knows
But his signing with PBC is good

  • Here we go again! People never give Canelo any respect. He is the ONLY champion out there consistantly defending his belts and actually fighting real fighters. Unlike all the other so called champions out there. Look at the man’s resumé ffs. All top 20 fighters. Am I the only one who remember when people where crying about him ducking this Charlo dude!? Fact! Canelo is a an ol’ school throw back fighter.

  • I don’t like the “probably thing” the fight will probably fall apart and canelo will probably end up fighting a low risk high gain fight against the weak berlanga, that is, if berlanga win his fight tonight!
