Besputin-Butaev clash for WBA welter title

Alexander Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs) and Radzhab Butaev (12-0, 9 KOs) will square off for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) world welterweight title this Saturday at the Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco. The will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the United States.

The two fighters were originally slated to fight for the WBA’s interim welterweight belt but the bout was upgraded to the regular title when Manny Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman, thereby earning the super title and leaving the regular title vacant.

Besputin is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco in April. Besputin figures to be a favorite in the fight seeing as how he had a deep amateur career and is a stablemate of Vasyl Lomachenko. Besputin is currently ranked #1 in the WBA rankings.

Butaev is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Silverio Ortiz in May. Butaev hails from Russia but makes New York his home base. He is currently ranked #2 in the WBA rankings.

Also featured on the card from Monaco will be “The First Lady of Boxing” Cecilia Braekhus, who will be defending her World Boxing Association (WBA) World Welterweight Title against Victoria Noelia Bustos in an undisputed welterweight queen showdown.

  • When you read about the WBA idiots and all of their bogus World titles how can anyone give any credibility to this farce of a business?

    • Winning the super title and leaving the regular title vacant-fight news needs to stop enabling all these like they are something important. Maybe would be a start in boxers refusing to pay sanctioning fees to these criminals.

  • This is a good fight. Besputin and Butaev are kind of unknown for some boxing fans, but both guys carry a lot of skills and some good power, especially in Butaev side, who is a very exciting fighter (he reminds me Michael Katsidis, just with better defense and foot work) . Besputin style is a lot similar to Lomachenko, but not as good as him. . Either one that wins this fight would be a good opponent for Crawford or Pacquiao.
I really like this match up between too high skilled fighters that are on their primes and undefeated.
