Wilson targets Kambosos

By Ray Wheatley – World of Boxing

WBO #3 super featherweight Liam Wilson (11-2, 7 KOs) has challenged former undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos (20-2, 10 KOs) to a bout that would place him among the leading 135-pounders if he scored an upset victory.

“We absolutely want George Kambosos for the super fight,” Wilson’s manager Steve Scanlan told the Daily Telegraph. “I think Liam showed he deserves a crack at George this week, I will reach out to the Kambosos camp and we’ll begin discussions to put together a possible title bout. George is a spartan warrior and Liam loves to entertain when he fights. It’s a fight the Australian public deserves to see. If Liam wins, it would really propel him into the mainstream. But the ball will be in George’s court if he wants to get a deal done with us.”

  • Wilson is doing what he needs to do in moving on to remove the bitter sting of his disputed loss to Navarette. Nothing will do it better than a world championship.

  • Sounds like a good match up for both of them. It’s not yet a crossroads fight but it would be for one of them the next time around.

  • That’s a pretty good fight! Stevenson offered him a fight as an eliminator and Kambosos said it was too much at the time, but this should be perfect.

    • We need good fights, and this one is a terrific matchup or Kambosos vs Gervonta Davis now that his fight against Ryan Garcia fell apart. Seems that is brewing a fight between Garcia and Prograis, this is another great matchup

  • Great crossroads win for Kambosos. Wilson made a name for himself in the loss. However, we need to be real about this. Kambosos by TKO in 5 rounds.

  • Obviously knows that a rematch with Navarette will end the same way. Apart from the long count, he ran out of puff and it was only a matter of time before he got KO’d

  • I really hate when people writing these articles simply can’t tell the truth. I like Kambosos, but dude was NEVER undisputed! The truth will always do. He was UNIFIED Lightweight Champion! Like I said, I like Kambosos, he’s ok, but he was simply not in the same league as one of my favorite fighters Devin Haney.
Now, about this March up, I wouldn’t mind seeing it. Both fighters need a win bad.

  • Geez Scanlon must have it in for Liam Wilson. He’s got his kid knocked out twice in his last four fights and he’s had a grand total of 13 bouts! Why is he rushing him? Give him four building fights against solid opposition so the next time he gets a title shot, he’s actually ready for it!
