Williams: Andrade can’t avoid me forever

WBO #2 rated middleweight Liam Williams believes WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade has nowhere to hide. Andrade has been ordered to face Williams in his next defense and the Welshman’s promoter Frank Warren is working behind the scenes to make the fight happen very soon.

Andrade claims the world’s best 160lb fighters are avoiding him. Those comments anger Williams, who defends his British middleweight belt against Andrew ‘D’Animal’ Robinson at BT Sports studio on Saturday.

Fired up Williams, 28, put Andrade on blast saying: “I am confident in my ability to wreck Andrade. He says he is the most avoided man in boxing, but I am chasing him so he isn’t being avoided.

“I don’t think he wants the fight, but he can’t keep hiding. It is just a matter of time and I am sure we will get to the bottom of the situation in the next couple of weeks.

“I believe it will be Andrade after Robinson, but I don’t believe Andrade wants to fight me. I wouldn’t say he is scared of me because that is probably a bit far-fetched, but he is wary. If he got beaten by a bigger name it would be acceptable because he could earn money from other fights. I am not a fool and understand the sport, but I am low reward, high risk for Andrade.

“I want to take a world title from the champion, but I just want my opportunity and whoever it is against I will win.”

  • Liam William? never heard of the guy. Kudos to anybody call out Andrade. With Andrade having a belt you still barely heard other Mids say his name. Doubt he would say this if he had other options at 28 yo.

  • Best of luck to you Liam, but something tells me that Andrade isn’t having trouble sleeping at night because he might have to fight you at some point. And you still have to win your fight first.

  • It appears Andrade may not have a choice but to fight Williams because Andrade squandered previous opportunities and/or other middleweights do not find Andrade’s risky boxing style as marketable for a big money fight.

For more market appeal, Andrade has to put together a few victories against solid opponents, but it starts with an increase in activity and a decrease in entitlement. Otherwise, Andrade will continue chasing his dream of big money fights in a short, boxing time period because Andrade is currently age 32.

  • The kid is showing he wants the fight which means Andrady will run like lightning from him. The most overrated cherry picker in the game…

  • We don’t really hear about Andrade much these days. His prime isn’t going to last forever. He should fight more often. Whatever happened with a potential charlo fight?

    • Whetto. Hopefully with the renewed confidence of Charlo and his last fight, he jus make take that fight. Or at least we can hope so.. i wld love to see that fight!
