Tyson Fury retires

FuryretiresFormer heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, 36, announced his retirement today via a short video on social media.

“Hi everybody! I’m going to make this short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I am going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody. See you on the other side,” stated Fury.

The Gypsy King had been expected to face Anthony Joshua later this year in an all-British showdown.

Notes: Fury has retired before and then returned to the ring, so we’ll see if this retirement sticks…Turpin was a notorious British highway robber. The expression Dick Turpin wore a mask usually alludes to someone who feels robbed or cheated in some way.

    • I agree with that. He won’t get any further than this, even if he wins a few more fights. No matter when he retires, there will always be worthy, tempting and exciting challengers. Don’t fall into that trap.

  • Besides Tyson Fury being one of the very best, he always added both entertainment and show.

I am absolutely convinced that he would have performed in couple of more big fights if he had been mentally motivated for it.

Respect to end a career before its too late.

Hats off for a wonderful exciting career. Wishing you the best in a long life.

    • I agree he was a damn good fighter and entertainer, but like everyone father time catches up to you at some point. When you no longer motivated in the sport it’s time to hang them up.

      • Although he lost he performed at a very high level in the Usyk rematch. He would have beaten most top 10 fighters that night. Not obviously lacking in motivation.

  • I think that wilder trilogy took a lot of both men. Hopefully wilder follows him into retirement soon. Joshua as well.

Usyk should definitely retire on top.

There is no benefit to sticking around other than $$$. And the talk about going down in weight is just stupid.

This sport is unforgiving. You don’t play boxing. Ride into the sunset.

    • I agree that both Joshua and Wilder needs to retire. Those men were absolute overrated in their entire career. Wilder was never that good to begin with. The man has never beaten a great fighter. I don’t know what they are hanging around for.

  • Tremendous fighter, great Champion, wishing Tyson Fury the best of the best for retirement. I wish Usyk would have retired as well that way he could go out on top.

  • Yep, he’ll get bored, and nobody left to feed his ego in the spotlight. Nobody left to hear him blow smoke on how wonderful he is as a fighter. LOL… If he stays away from boxing for minimal a year, I will believe he’s retired. I will not miss him as a fighter. His mouth is enough for me to handle.

    • Show some respect for fury. He only lost 2 controversial decisions to usyk. You predicted wilder would beat him with those chicken . Get a grip scooby.

  • ok. but maybe first, and instead, he could try hiring a full time conditioner, nutritionist, and baby sitter, to get into world class athlete shape, and condition. then if that doesn’t work, then retire. he can’t show up that fat, and win against everyone…

    • I’m sorry, RWB, but he was consistently able to go 12 rounds. You may not realize how difficult that is. He had a certain body shape but was a great athlete.
I’d say he may indeed retire this time he has a truckload of money and nothing left to prove

  • Entertaining and excellent career for Tyson Fury, I wish him well. As for Usyk, he should continue to fight if he wants to and his health is good. I’m not a big believer that when a fighter retires undefeated, it proves that he is a better fighter than if he hangs around until he loses. JC Chavez fighting on after he was 87-0 does not mean that he didn’t go 87-0.

  • Yeah mate, retire with that salty taste of defeat in your mouth and clammering noise in your head believing you were robbed…..

  • Breaking news, “boxing legend” Tyson Fury comes out of retirement to fight Joshua…

  • Bullshtein. He’ll be back once he’s offered an insane amount of money for a showdown with either Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, or both.

  • I’ll believe it if he hasn’t fought by this time in 2028. What’s with all this I’m hearing about Wlad coming back?

  • “Retirement” doesn’t have the same weight as it used to. He’ll pulling the how can they miss you if you won’t go away trick. He’ll be back.

  • I’m happy not only that Tyson is wished well, but that a lot of people think Usyk should retire. I couldn’t agree more.

If you take money out of it, there is high potential for downside vs relatively little upside… and extreme downside at that. Talk to any boxer in his 60’s (if they’ve made it there). You’ll usually notice some obvious impairment (and there is more you aren’t seeing).

People across the world love you. Your country, who needs someone to look up to, loves you. You have enough money if you use it wisely, and you’re a shoe-in hall-of-famer. Most of all, you have your family and your health. At some point, it’s just piggish to want more.

  • I don’t dislike Fury as a boxer, and his fights have been decent to watch, but as a person he sure seems a bit of an emotional sod.

  • Marciano retired and never looked back . Fury should follow the “Rock”’s wisdom. He ( Fury ) has his health, one thing money can not buy. Get out of the game and understand the leaches will or have already found a fighter to fill your gloves.

  • Hope he is serious, this is the most overrated title holder ever, he has had 6 title fights, 3 against the same man, 2 against washed up sparring partners of his and 1 against old klitskho, and there were people calling him the greatest ever.

  • I’m not sure Fury rides off into the sunset after a loss, especially if he feels to robbed. I say that enough money will be placed for an all England showdown against AJ in a “Better than Never” fight. I think he can be motivated enough to put on one last good fight, win, then leave feeling better about himself.

  • He is full of ishhh! There’s talks of ngannu vs fury 2 going around! He’ll end up fighting ngannu and anthony joshua before he really retires! His exellency allashishi and eddie hearn will make him a very lucrative offer for those fights he would not be able refuse!

  • Fury puts on a lot of weight between fights & is battling mental health issues – I think Fury will get knocked out if he fights again – against almost any opponent. Great skills & heart but not living the healthy lifestyle needed. Fury was a mobile and slick giant – he has become a giant oaf – Please retire or you will get KO’d & humiliated. I would have never favored AJ over Fury but now I do

  • Thank god I never ever have to watch this sluggard in the ring again. One of the biggest eyesores I have ever seen, boring as hell and just plain mediocre.

  • I think Fury should do a parting fight with Mike Tyson you know for shits and giggles and 40 million dollars. Best of luck, champ.
