WBC, WBA, WBO take action for peace

In the interest of peace, the WBC has voted to remove the sanction of any and all WBC boxing in Russia until and unless the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine is resolved in an agreeable manner. The WBC has been in open discussions with other sanctioning organizations and all members of the boxing industry to work towards peace.

The WBA Directorate has scheduled a meeting for next Monday to take a vote on also suspending any world, international or regional title fight in Russian territory until the end of the conflict.

The WBO is considering not to sanction world titles and regional bouts in Russia and not including Russian boxers in its rankings for as long as the invasion of Ukraine lasts.

  • The alphabet groups want “peace” yet they’re voting to put sanctions on Russian fighters. Any kind of economic sanction is basically a declaration of war, so the WBA, WBC, WBO, et al, will essentially declare war on Russian boxers by undermining their ability to earn a living. How very peaceful!

    • Cubanitovich, there we’re actually people who didn’t like your comment. Unbelievable.

  • Lol!!! The last worry on my mind would be what the alphabet soup thinks of me.

Let’s just have a boxing tournament between both countries, winner gets what they want. 25 in each side. PPV. Everyone wins.

  • “ not including Russian boxers in its rankings…”, as if the Russian boxers are the ones bombing ukrain.

    • Exactly. It’s no different than when certain sanctioning bodies were discriminating against South African boxers back in the 1980s because of apartheid (as if the boxers could help it!).

  • Welp, Putin just surrendered and will pull all troops out of Ukraine immediately. Seriously though, somebody really needs to sit Suliaman down and tell him that nobody friggin cares.

  • Wonder if a Russian boxer were to defect, would they be given the same chance to box internationally like a Cuban boxer does?
