Canelo-Bivol set; $59.99/$79.99 DAZN PPV

Pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez (57-1-2, 30 KOs) has signed a new multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN. The first fight will see boxing’s biggest attraction step up in weight to take on Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) in a bid for the WBA Light-Heavyweight title on May 7. The second fight in the multi-fight deal is set for September, possibly against Gennady Golovkin.

The May 7 event will be available to subscribers around the world on DAZN, excluding Latin America and Mexico. In the U.S. & Canada, the event will be offered exclusively on DAZN Pay-Per View (PPV) – newly introduced for very select events to come – and priced at $59.99 for current subscribers and $79.99 for new subscribers (inclusive of a one month subscription to DAZN).

“I am very happy with this fight against Dmitry Bivol,” said Canelo. “It is another great challenge for me and my career — especially as I go up in weight and face an exceptional light heavyweight champion like Bivol.

“I am also very excited that we have this fight slated for Cinco De Mayo Weekend – May 7 – for all the fans to enjoy. We will be ready like we always are.”

  • Canelo taking on the best boxer of all possible opponents. That’s amazing. Plus at a higher weight. Haters have to step aside for this one. I feel Bivol has the best tools to beat Canelo. I’m a Canelo fan and Im predicting a decision loss for him. But I’m super pumped and hope he pulls out the victory. Let’s go!

    • I’m super pumped for this fight too. I am a huge Canelo fan and am extremely happy that he could be putting his haters in their place.I don’t think Bivol can beat him. Yeah he’s a big strong fighter but so is Canelo.Bivol i don’t think has the experience as Canelo to win a decision, but I don’t expect it to last that long. I feel that Canelo could knock him out.

      • agreed and Bivol was once 13-0 (11 ko’s). He’s gone the distance his last 6 fights and is now 19-0 (11 ko’s). He’s 31 yrs old. Not knockin guys out as of recent. Boxing isnt really about skills etc, its about timing and picking. Great time for Canelo to take on Bivol.

          • Thats funny lol. Bivol does have to KO Canelo to win. Do you think he’s getting a decision victory. The best he can do is a draw if its not a KO win.

          • Saying Bivol doesn’t have to KO Canelo to win is delusional. Yes he does. He doesn’t have the experience or skill set to match what Canelo can do in the ring. There is no way Bivol will outpoint Canelo. Canelo will win by KO because Bivol is going to go for the knockout, throw it all on the line and the experience Canelo has will make him regret it. These are the type of fights Canelo likes. He likes it when the opponent underestimates him and fight toe to toe. That is where his counter punching and body shots come into effect. As the rounds go on it favors Canelo more and more. Canelo has power and a granite chin too if GGG couldn’t knock him out Bivol wont either and to top it off Bivol hasn’t fought anyone let alone lack of power in his last 6 fights. Lack of in ring experience will do him in.

          • That whole light Heavyweight champion division is overrated if you ask me. None of them fought anyone or had any major championship level fights. Canelo wins hands down. When the fight with Plant was made what did everyone say. He’s too good with his jabs and strong for Canelo same as they are saying with Bivol, but what happened? He quit on his stool. Canelo was too much for him and then after all the backers of Plant ridiculed him called him a bum. I fear the same thing will happen to Bivol. This loss could hurt his career. Loosing to a hated unified Champion that moves up to beat you on your own level.

    • Not to worry. Canelo gets the W my man. Bivol was once 13-0 (11 ko’s). He’s gone the distance his last 6 fights and is now 19-0 (11 ko’s). He’s 31 yrs old. Not knockin guys out as of recent. Boxing isnt really about skills etc, its about timing and picking. Great time for Canelo to take on Bivol.

  • Looking forward to Chris the natural’s comments now….he’s always said Canelo won’t fight Bivol…

    • its the right time now. A few fights back, it wasnt the right time for Canelo. Bivol was once 13-0 (11 ko’s). His last 6 out went the distance and he’s now 19-0 (11 ko’s) and the last 6 that went the distance, werent on canelo’s level. And like u said, Bivol doesnt have the experience on that level.

  • Glad Canelo taking this 2 fight deal. We know Bivol is a threat and needs to dominate and or stop Canelo or he will get robbed by controversial decision.
    Can’t wait!

    • No chance. Bivol doesnt have a chance. Set fights my man. Set fights. Bivol, once a hard hitting light heavy at 13-0 (11 ko’s). His last 6 out went the distance and hes now 19-0 (11 ko’s). Wheres that power at? The last 6 that went the distance, werent on Canelo level. Nothing is real in boxing. Its just an entertainment show like wwe wrestling.

  • Thank you to:
    – Canelo
    – Bivol
    – Matchroom Boxing
    – DAZN
    – Amazon Fire Stick

  • So the fight is ppv even if you are already subscribed? Isn’t that the opposite of what the dazn model is supposed to be. Their selling point was that the subscription was all you would ever have to pay

    • That’s right exactly what I was thinking. I think it’s dirty of DAZN to start pulling this on this fight.

    • Seriously! I’ve been laying for DAzN for years. Since it’s inception I’ve had a subscription. Even when they had trash fights I didn’t care about I kept the subscription. Now I gotta pay 4 months with or payments(8 months if you go by the original $9.99 a month subscription) for 1 fuckin fight? Just one? Do I at least get a few months for free?

This is ESPN+ shit right here.

  • Bivol didn’t look great in his last couple of fights against Umar Salamov & Craig Richards and this would be part of the reason why he’s got the Canelo fight. Kind of like when Callum Smith got gifted his win over Ryder after getting outboxed, then immediately got Canelo, after trying for ages… Still, great fight and dangerous for Canelo… assuming neutral judging (jokes).

Looking less likely we’ll see him fight Andrade or Charlo at 160. The truly dangerous fights.

    • Charlo and andrade see just children for canelo … canelo needs to fight truly warriors like bivol who regardless your own opinion is very big for canelo

    • You know the game. Thats exactly why he got the fight. His last 6 out, went the distance against lesser guys than Canelo. Bivol was 13-0 (11 ko’s) and has dropped to 19-0 (11 ko’s). Team Canelo picks them well. Cherries at their ripest time!!

  • Canelo via unanimous decision, Bivol doesn’t have the power nor experience to beat Canelo. Bivol’s last six fights were UD wins, he will get outboxed and powered during this fight.

    • Amen. once a power puncher at 13-0 (11ko’s) now 19-0 (11 ko’s) and last 6 went the distance and none of them were on canelo’s level. Team Canelo picks them well

  • You are going to piss off a lot of subscribers …including myself who will cancel their subscription altogether. A really stupid move. Shame on you Eddie Hearn!

    • i cancelled my sub a few months ago. No reason to keep it after the teo vs kambosos fight. I was going to renew it for canelo fights but now I’m not.

  • I give Canelo full credit for not only taking this fight, but for also giving the Russian a full training camp. It is about time, but without fixed judging he loses this fight.

    • Maybe… it’s like charlo or Andrade jump to heavyweight and fight top boxer in that division

    • Chris…I’m proud of you man. Seriously. The Russian will put up a good fight, but I believe he gets walked down once Canelo figures out how to time his snapping jab.

    • Nah Bivol cant win. Bivol, once seen as a power puncher at 13-0 (11 ko’s) has fallen to 19-0 (11 ko’s). Last 6 went the distance and def not on Canelo’s level. Team Canelo picked Bivol at the right time.

  • Dazn pulling a fast one here, sold us on a reasonable subscription with Pay Per View quality fights included without pay per view fees….., now want a subscription and pay per view with a PPV charge….Why not go with ESPN+ ….disappointed DAZN

  • Good for Canelo, and I favor him to defeat Bivol. However, I will always wonder how a Canelo/Benavidez fight would have turned out at 168. I still favor Canelo to defeat Benavidez at 168, but I would have loved watching that scrap in Texas.

If GGG is on Canelo’s list of possible fights, I suppose they will later fight at 168; but I prefer to see/hear Benavidez’s name (at 168) on Canelo’s list of possible challenges. I will keep my fingers crossed.

  • Waoooo what a fight two bulls clashing power vs power

Well this will be the last fight for to canelo haters

If canelo lose easily haters were rights

If canelo lose in a close fight or tie or win this fight then all canelo haters will have to recognize him a great boxer

Because he is coming from 147 lbs so he is small guy in the light heavyweights

    • Canelo has traveled up over many yrs to weights above 147. Body is adjusted to fighting at heavier weights than that. Also, its NOT power vs power. Thats your brain and MOST others brains thinking that BEACUSe Bivol was once 13-0 (11 ko’s) but has fallen to 19-0 (11 ko’s). Last 6 went the distance. None of those 6 were nearly on Canelo’s level. Team Canelo observed this and said, its the right time to fight Bivol. The Bivol fight was more dangerous 2 yrs ago. The sport is about ‘when to’ and when Not to’. Thats all its about, timing. They dont let these guys meet up, head to head, while in their primes. They just dont do that. One always has an edge or there’s really no show!

      • Of course bivol we’re more danger 2 years ago because canelo was coming up , now canelo is in his best as bivol is …there are no excuses …2 years ago canelo was greener now he is in his prime

But everybody is crying saying bivol did not ko the last 6 fights ..then??? That’s not canelo fault

        • His criticism is unwarranted and just stupid. I publicly stated on this site many times that Canelo would never have the balls to fight Bivol without a full training camp, but I was proven wrong. If the Mexican legitimately, without corrupt judging, beats this young dynamo then I will finally elevate him to my number one pound-for-pound. However, he hasn’t done that yet so we shall see May 7th. Bivol is the most dangerous fight that he could have taken at 168 or 175, in my opinion. And I’ll be damned if he didn’t take it.

        • Carlos you are wasting your time trying to explain tom something his brain does not understand. just look at how many times he reposts his comments. I love boxing regardless of who is fighting, Canelo takes challenges, something that very few champions do. If Canelo loses to Vivol, I’ll still going to be a fan of his because he would be challenging a champion above his weight. It’s going to be a great fight.

  • Relax. Bivol is mediocre; only danger here is he’s a natural Light Heavy and Canelo is a natural Junior Middle. Canelo would be at more risk against Beterbiev and Joe Smith than Bivol at Light heavy. Benavidez, Charlo and Andrade would be tougher fights than Bivol as well.

      • Carlos, you’re NOT looking at Bivol’s record. He was once 13-0 (11ko’s). He’s now fallen to 19-0 (112 ko’s) over his last 6 fights and the 6 guys he that went the distance, aent on Canelo’s level. Bivol has lost his power and maybe we can say ‘aged’ as well. guys age at different times. hey say power is the last thing to go. Bivol has been losing that power… If thats the last thing to go, than he’s already lost everything else… right!

        • Lmao… so then bivol fool you ..

1 to beat canelo you don’t have to ko him out

2 if bivol did not ko in his last 6 fights is not canelo fault

3 even with 19-11 bivol is too big for canelo

Stop crying because if this fight would not be sign up you would be saying that canelo was scared of bivol

          Lol

    • Agreed with all but Canelo has long been out of 147 range. His body is a natural 160 guy now. Bivol slipped to 19-0 (11 ko’s) from 13-0 (11 ko’s).

    • Only in your dream my man. Bivol has fallen to 19-0 (11 ko’s) from 13-0 (11 ko’s). Last 6 went the distance and were guys, not on Canelo level.

  • Bivol is a very slow starter. I see Canelo swiping the early rounds, and keeping it even in the middle and late rounds. Canelo by Dec.

      • I would have agreed 2 yrs ago. Canelo was just getting used to heavier weights and Bivol was still knocking guys out. He hasnt in his last 6 outings and against far lower level guys than Canelo is.

  • Really disappointed with DAZN!!!! They sold me on no ppv, and now they stab me in the back.WTF! Eddie Hearn, some Help here please!!!!!!

  • once upon a time Bivol was 13-0 (11ko’s). He’s gone the distance his last 6 fights, now 19-0 (11 ko). Team Canelo picks them just Right!

    • Im curious how often you want to repeat this? is this some kind of brainwashing through repetition?
Bivol, not ko ing his last 6 doesnt mean he unlearned how to box.
Canelo going up in weight and boxing a unbeaten champ – there is absolutely nothing to complain about.
In boxing there is really much to complain, but it shouldnt be done 24/7 automatically. If Canelo would box Bterberiev you would claim he is ducking Bivol. Its the same nonsense ever again i read from boxing fans over the last decades.

      • I think what Tom is trying to get across is that “Once upon a time Bivol was 13-0 (11ko’s). He’s gone the distance his last 6 fights, now 19-0 (11 ko). Team Canelo picks them just right.” Ha Ha, WE GET IT!

    • Maximum profit for minimum risk. I should hire the Canelo team for my investments.

  • Some you you guys on here make laugh by saying Bivol has slipped or slumped to 19-0 (13ko’s).
He’s got 6 W’s in his last 6 fights and is still undefeated. Canelo is on a different planet to other fighters. The step up is not going to affect him. Just ask Sergey Kovalev.

  • I agree. It’s about picking, timing and money. Bivol has not been impressive in his latest fights. It’s a good investment.

After Bivol, why not an old and fading GGG?

After GGG, shall we guess, might Beterbievs name still be interesting, if he’s still undefeated. Beterbiev will be around 39 or 40 at that time, fading and harmless, but still a good brand, and if you’re talking about picking, timing and money, he will probably be a good choice.

It’s difficult to find a worthy and true challenge for Canelo. I myself would love to see Canelo vs Zurdo.

  • Bivol has not beaten anyone of note, he will be good competition for Canelo, but that’s all.

    • Lol go watch soccer

Bivol is the greatest or second greatest fighter canelo might fight the other one is beterbiev

  • Where a person must give it to Canelo is moving up in weight as he has done over the years and being as active as he has been and always staying in shape.

  • Is it just a glitch on Fightnews or has Tom told us Bivol’s record 13 odd times in the comments? That’s gotta be a record of some sort surely?

    • Tom used to tell the record 12 out of 13 posts. He has fallen to 12 out of 18 posts.

  • I’m glad Canelo is fighting Bivol rather than that mediocre Cruiserweight champ from Congo. However, I’d still rather see him fight Benavidez.

  • Lmao now people crying and saying bivol is 19-11 lol

So??? Canelo did not tie his hands

People saying was choosing his opponents and now that he is gona fight bivol people crying that bivol is 19-11

    Lol

  • This is great move from Canelo must say.
I´m not a Canelo hater but not a big fan either because after Golovkin fights i have been started to think that Canelo cherry picks his opponents and i have been hoping that somebody will win him soon as possible.

Now after these great news im thinking that Canelo sure is fan friendly fighter because he take back to back 2 fighters who can somehow threat him.
That is great news for the sport.
He wants to fight for his fans and hell yeah i say thank you for Canelo for singning those deals but STILL i am hoping that old GGG wins that third fight if it happens.
If Canelo pulls this off and beats Bivol and Golovkin i will buy Canelo is second best t-shirt and wear it public.
Mayweather (active) like you all know is nr 1 for eternity.
Not so many boxers has done contracts like Canelo.
Near retirement take back to back monster opponents so have to respect that.

  • I’m not the biggest Canelo fan but I don’t see how its debatable that he’s p4p#1. Canelo is extremely undersized for light-heavyweight class listed at 5’9 when he probably 5’7 but he’s going for it. Canelo is one of the few great focal points in boxing. He fights and fights often. Who has been putting in that work like Canelo? He fought the very vest in this sport and he’s still putting himself in danger. This man is winning me over. He’s an amazing fighter.

  • another good fight/test for Canelo and to think whats everybody else gonna do? sit back and try to talk their way into a mega fight while dodging each other i mean why is Canelo the ONLY fighter fighting current prime world champions yet NOT one other fighter continues to fight fighters that are current world champions heel most of todays champions wont even fight their mandatories!!!!

  • Providing all goes well, Canelo should fight Benavidez in September (Mexican Independence)!! Charlo has not done anything to merit that fight?! Heck he isn’t @68???!!

  • Despite what Tom will have you believe, Bivol did not lose his power. He is a boxer-puncher with decent power that uses his power to control the pace and distance. Against lower level fighters, this also earned KOs, but against world class opponents he gets the win. Always has. Do I think he can beat Canelo? Hell no. He would not be opponent #1 if he was expected to win.

Also, DAZN canceled my subscription which was grandfathered in at the $9.99 month due to a “problem with my credit card” and then insisted that I had to pay the higher rate. I was content to pay them $10 a month for the rest of my life. Now they will never get another cent from me.

  • Very disappointing as a boxing fan to see Canelo make these fights, he should of fought Charlo, Benvinidez, and Andre, come on Canelo I will not pay to see you win by default.

    • Charlo, Benvinidez, and Andrade need to earn a shot at the big dance. You don’t get there by fighting fringe contenders. Bivol is getting a free shot by being an interesting opponent at a higher weight. If any of those 3 wanted a shot they would be earning it by beating the other 2 or at least fighting opponents that bring a threat.

    • Lara deserves the shot more than they do. He already beat Canelo once and got robbed on the cards.

  • The most dangerous fighter in the light heavyweight division is Artur Beterbiev undefeated 17-0 all KO wins. Nothing against Bivol but Beterbiev is the fighter to beat and the fight that many thought and hoped Canelo would make.

  • Canelo is taking the best opponent that HE THINKS HE CAN WIN….Because the best one is Arthur Beterbiev!!!!

  • Go Bivol go ! But sadly Bivol hasn’t the ko power to bother Canelo and if he wins by UD, judges are going to rob him and give it to Canelo like they did to GGG.

  • I’m glad i quit DAZN last year. They have almost all boring no interest fights and their talking heads are from the bottom of the barrel…and now this!

  • Great fight! But $59.99 when DAZN was created as a streaming service for a low monthly fee???? No, that is milking the goat along with the cow. Greed, greed, and more greed.

  • Nobody, I mean nobody in boxing puts himself out there for the best challenges like Canelo. While these other champions are cherry picking and avoiding the best fights, Canelo is keeping boxing alive. Crawford, fight somebody already, Spence is there for you, Thurman is back, you guys are wasting your career.

  • DZONE was supposed to be the end of ppv. Why did they say that??? Bait and switch shart.

  • I will keep DAZN but I will pass on the PPV fights. They should have made the PPV a more reasonable
$29.95 for subscribers. That would have been a fair compromise. They will not charge me PPV pricing when I am already a subscriber, that would be a greedy move. You can pay Canelo his $40-50 million, but my $59.95 will not be a small part of that!

  • Good for him stepping up. Golovkin not so sure. Here are the top ones left. He beats these 3 there is not much you can say at least in this era. Hes top dog.
    1. Gilberto Ramirez
    2. Dmitry Bivol
    3. Artur Beterbiev
Those are the big 3. Unless Golovkin goes and drinks from the fountain of youth and can bring it back.

  • Theres really nothing anyone can say about Canelo now. Even I was a doubter at some point. You have to respect Canelos courage and desire to continue to be great.
