Saucedo stops Zappavigna in all-out war

In a bloodbath, undefeated WBO #1, WBA #2 super lightweight Alex “El Cholo” Saucedo (28-0, 18 KOs) stopped WBO #7 Lenny Zappavigna (37-4, 27 KOs) in round seven of a sensational fight on Saturday night at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Both fighters were cut in the bout. Saucedo dropped Zappavigna in round three but Lenny Z fought back fiercely. In round four, Zappavigna battered Saucedo. Saucedo regained control in round five behind his jab. By the end of round six, Zappavigna’s left eye was closed and his face was a bloody mask. Zappa’s corner finally threw in the towel at 2:31 of round seven. Saucedo is now mandatory challenger for WBO 140lb champion Maurice Hooker.

2016 Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceicao (8-0, 5 KOs) easily outclassed Guavino Guaman (5-3, 1 KO) in a super featherweight clash. Conceicao floored Guaman in round one and twice in round two. The fight was waved off after another knockdown in round three. Time was :56.

Unbeaten heavyweight Trey Lippe Morrison (15-0, 15 KOs) knocked out game journeyman Byron Polley (30-23-1, 13 KOs) in round three. Morrison, the son of former world champion Tommy Morrison, dropped Polley twice in round one, once in round two, and twice round three. Time was 1:39. Polley showed heart, but lost his fourth straight by KO.

Former world champion “Mile High” Mike Alvarado (39-4, 27 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over journeyman Martin Angel Martinez (17-15-1, 10 KOs) in a welterweight clash. Alvardo struggled but got the win when Martinez couldn’t come out for round ten due to a cut.

Unbeaten Female Olympian lightweight Mikaela Mayer (6-0, 3 KOs) outpointed Sheena Kaine (3-3, 0 KOs) over six rounds. Mayer dropped Kaine in round two but had to go the full six. Scores were 60-53 across the board.

Debuting featherweight Christopher “The Boy” Zavala (1-0, 0 KOs) decisioned Tyler Pacheco (1-2, 0 KOs) over four. Scores were 40-35, 40-35, 39-36. Pacheco down in round three.
