Tszyu: I will be world champ in 2020

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

IBF #7, WBO #9 light middleweight Tim Tszyu (15-0, 11 KOs) has a world title bout on his radar and is confident he will become a world champion like his famous Hall of Fame father Kostya Tszyu.

“In 2020, I want a world title,” Tszyu told the Herald newspaper. “I want a world title, international-ranked opponents. I want to get to that #1 stage. I’ve got a great promoter, we’ve got fight dates. It’s about climbing the mountain. The world champion is who I want!

“We’ve got the right people behind me, I’m confident in my ability and I know where I have to go. I would love to bring a mega-fight, a world title fight, to Australia.”

  • Talk is cheap, but actual performance remains to be seen. Considering how many dozens of cracker jack titles and second chances everyone under the sun gets today in boxing, yep, I am sure Tszyu will win some kind of title or belt even if it comes from the bottom of a boxer commissioner’s candy popcorn box.

    • Maybe start with one of the silver or international titles and work up to one of the worlds. Or could also start a new weight class,

  • Just keep winning Tim, stay humble and the rest will come. I went to see KT v Jesse Leija in Melbourne back in 2001 in front of 28,000 fans and it was huge. Would love to see T Tszyu do the same.
