Second 2 None Promotions continued their early success as a boxing promotion with a well-matched Friday night card in Warren, MI at the DeCarlos Banquet and Convention Center. All the fights went to the scorecards were competitive bouts.

The matchup that had more of a regional Detroit/Toledo feel featured heavyweights that had been known to go the distance in previous bouts. And true to form, Saginaw’s Robert Simms (8-2, 3 KOs) edged a very durable Toledo native in Marquis Valentine (5-4, 2 KOs).

Simms battled losing his cup twice out of his shorts; once in the 1st Round and falling out ,again, in the 6th in the heavyweight contest. Simms, bothered by his equipment failure most of the fight, admitted to me afterwards that it caused a poor performance. Even with the uncomfortable situation, Simms was able to use his quickness. Although giving up a 60+ lbs. to the over 300 lb. Valentine’s size advantage, the judges gave Simms a majority decision (59-55, 57-57, 58-56) over Valentine.

In the night’s main event, Kevin White (2-0) defeated a hard punching Donnie Reeves by UD (39-37, 39-37, 39-37). White established a good jab early in the fight. Reeves, who is learning to set up his power by jab, often lunged at White, unable to find his distance. White stayed out of harm’s way all 4 Rounds in the super lightweight contest. The loss drops the 18 year old Reeves to (3-3, 2 KOs).

The co-main event featured a rematch between Gheith Mohammed (5-0, 1 KO) and Chester Tatmon (3-2, 1 KO). Mohammed won the first welterweight battle and Tatmon looked to avenge the loss. The judges had the majority decision (39-37, 38-38, 40-36) in Mohammed’s favor.

Christion White improves to (2-0, 1 KO) over welterweight Darnell Pettis (3-11). The fight had White knocking down Pettis twice. The UD victory was scored (40-34, 40-34, 40-34) in favor of White.

Tony Robinson won his pro debut by easily defeating Chad Coon. Robinson used speed to set up a 2nd Round knockdown of Coon. The match may have shown some of the future of Detroit boxing. Robinson easily received a UD victory (40-35, 39-36, 40-35), as super featherweight Coon drops to (0-2).

The fight of the night had a close battle between two fighters showing a ton of heart through the 4 Round middleweight bout. Antonio Hernandez (1-3) was able to open a cut under the right eye of Jared Chauvin (1-3) sneaking out a majority decision (39-37, 38-38, 39-37) in his favor.

The night was well matched by Aaron Hernandez, Kenny Moore, and Pee Robinson. It was promoted by Vi Tran and Kenny Moore.
