Rather bizarre tactic by IBF cruiserweight champion Mairis Briedis, who is chasing a Jake Paul fight. At Sunday’s Okolie-Cieslak card in London, Briedis donned a Super Mario outfit to try to get Paul’s attention after Paul referred to him as “this guy, Mario.”

Briedis told Paul and the DAZN audience, “Jake, now I’m Mario. If you’re afraid of real fighters, let’s play our game and I smash out from you all the coins and the small, small star from your hand.”

  • He had better fight Mario first before Luigi. Luigi has more length jab and stamina. Is in better overall strength. First Mario, THEN Luigi. Now there’s a storyline!

  • All this ridiculous antic Mairis is doing, are the consequences of an obscure boxing career with very light purses in it. Clearly he is desperate to get a good payday, be in the limelight, involved in a great event and an easy fight in the process. Just delusional

    • Whats wrong with that? After all, it is prizefighting so you go for the biggest prize or should they fight for the “glory”? Last time I checked, glory doesn’t pay the bills.

  • This is the actual cruiserweight champion of the world (who is, apparently, feeling better after testing positive for covid a couple of weeks ago) doing this for a fight with a guy who is 5-0 and whose opponents had a collective boxing record of 0-1 when he fought them….. damn Mairis.

    • What does covid have to do with anything? Breidis didn’t pull out of the fight because he tested positive for the wuhan cold, he was prohibited from fighting by the commission. Stop making things up. Damn!

  • Briedis is the best cruiser in the world. Gave Usyk his toughest fight which is saying a lot now. But he doesn’t make money and he’s getting old so how can you blame him for trying to make a score? There is zero chance Jake gets within 100 miles of this guy.

  • Amaris would toy with either Paul brother. He could probably end it whenever he wanted but would likely be cautious in the first, start to open up in the second. Really let his hands go in the third andeither cruise to a 5 rd decision or tko.

Paul is a big strong dude with obvious knockout power and an amateurish style. Maris would toy with him but also be wary of the lucky punch that Paul will try and land.

Its really awful that a highly skilled world boxing champion has to resort to this to make real money.

    • Pauls best punch on Breidis would do nothing. Breidis could be reckless and still sleep goofboy. It is sad that EE fighters at world level get paid like shit. It is systemic ****** in boxing against a certain ethnic group for sure.

  • Sad a top fighter like him is needing to call out a YouTube star to earn good money!

  • Does Breidis owe the Latvian mob a shit load of $$$ or something? I understand he wants the easy money that comes with a Jake Paul fight, but he is the number one Cruiserweight in the world who needs to defend his undisputed strap against the number one contender in Lawrence Okolie. Breidis looks cringe-worthy in the least.
