Oscar: Finalizing Charlo-Munguia is top priority

Responding to reports that negotiations for a bout between WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo and WBC #1 rated Jaime Munguia have broken down, Munguia’s promoter Oscar de la Hoya issued a statement on social media:

Finalizing Charlo vs Munguia is top priority. Golden Boy remains committed to our partner DAZN. DAZN understands the magnitude of this fight and is willing and able to collaborate with Showtime to get this done. I hope Showtime is on board. Oscar de la Hoya

PBC reportedly insists on putting the fight on Showtime PPV.

The WBC has a purse bid scheduled for next week for a Munguia vs. Carlos Adame eliminator with the winner becoming Charlo’s mandatory. So it looks like probably Munguia-Adame first and then, provided Munguia wins, revisiting the Munguia-Charlo fight with more leverage as the mandatory. In the meantime, Charlo would face another opponent.

  • Today’s top fighters are such pansies. They’re only interested in fighting low-risk competition once or twice a year. Gone are the days of champions fighting at least 3-4 times a year and seeking out the best competition.

  • Well, Oscar, quit talking smack and make it happen. I am sure after Oscar draws up all the “ifs” and the “buts” in the contract the fight won’t happen.

  • Munguia vs charlo now! Why munguia and some bump again! Munguia needs to be tested with a prime fighter like charlo already!

  • The comments about Mungia but lets not forget that charlo is quite the drama queen too. Im sure his handlers are trying to offer mungias team peanuts to fight. Charlo needs to fight someone already. Becoming an inactive champion or at least give montiel a rematch in the meantime

  • This is a fantastic matchup. I think Charlo wins a very tough decision.

I hope Oscar doesn’t do the cross dressing thing anymore that’s a very demented and disgusting thing he did. I really hope he can use willpower and never ever do this again.

Good luck Oscar I’m pulling for your redemption.

    • Harold,

Don’t be cruel dude what Oscar did in the past is the past everyone deserves a second or third chance. I’m sure that night that he dressed in ladies fishnets, lingerie and stilettos is behind him it was a mistake that I don’t think he will ever repeat. If he chooses to do that again he should just make sure he’s not caught and not let people take pics again!!

I sure hope he doesn’t! No man should ever wear ladies panties and underwear if he does he’s a she/male or a he-she but again that’s strictly his business and no one else’s.

With that said it’s not for you or anyone to judge! It’s his choice to be a shemale if that’s what he chooses!

  • Time to do your job Oscar! For years you’ve talked so much crap about other promoters so now you’re on the ‘Hot Seat’!! Funny how things use to get done when Richard Schaffer was in charge!!

    • How do you know its Oscar’s fault? you seem to be really good at making judgement about others. How do you know its not Charlo’s team?

  • The problem is that PBC wants the rights to broadcast the fight with Showtime in US (PPV) and give DZN the other places, like UK and Mexico. Is a real roadblock where boxing fan are left behind, with the greediness galloping in first place.

  • I truly want to see Charlo vs. Munguia (now) for the WBC crown, BUT I have no problems with Munguia/Adame initially putting in that “boxing grunt work” to determine who will fight Charlo for the WBC crown. Meanwhile, perhaps Charlo can perform a “stay busy” fight and wait for the Munguia/Adame winner.

Munguia/Adame is a solid fight, and for now, I expect Munguia to wear down Adame for a victory.

  • PBC = instant delays and demands with higher price to view. Munguía shouldn’t need to fight anybody else to get a shot at the title, he’s already a bigger draw than Charlo will ever be. Total disrespect to Munguía in this. Haymon will probably want a multi fight contract and delay more. Go on to somebody else Jaime if you have to.

  • Its obvious Team Munguia doesn’t have the confidence to fight the best. No way they put him in with Charlo. Even the commission protected him from the GGG fight so we know he’s favored and a groomed media-darling to bring in a heap of Hispanic dollars. Just like Ryan Garcia.
He doesn’t move his head enough and would get hurt against a good puncher like Charlo. Munguia might be 60-0 before the perfect opportunity for him to grab a belt.
