Hernandez wins in Santo Domingo

Dominican boxing fans were served with an action-packed card in Santo Domingo on Saturday night. The main event was an all-out war between prospects Misael Vasquez and Derlyn Hernandez for the Dominican junior lightweight title. Hernandez (9-1-1, 8 KOs) and Vasquez (9-3, 8 KOs), both hard punchers, went at each other mercilessly bringing the crowd to its feet. Vasquez’ left eye was completely shut after seven rounds which forced the referee to declare a TKO victory for Hernandez.

Other noteworthy action in the 13 bout card:

Brayner Vasquez (10-5, 5 KOs ) scored a spectacular two round knockout over favored Marlyn Cabrera (25-4, 12 KOs) in a short lightweight slugfest. Visitor Joshafat Ortiz (9-0, 5 KOs), a Di Bella Entertainment prospect from Pennsylvania, laid out local boy Erickson Vargas (4-1, 1 KO) in two rounds with a crippling left hook to the body in the junior lightweight division; Claribel Mena W6 Rocio de Leon. jr Middleweight; Lenin Castillo KO2 Andy Perez, Cruiserweight; Danny Aguero TKO5 Hector Nivar, juniorr welterweight; Jairo Sanchez W6 Leonardo Espinal, junior middleweight.
