One of the most consistent and successful boxing series continued Saturday night with promoter Carlos Llinas and Sound Board in Motor City Casino in Detroit. Both the main and co-main events provided action for the capacity crowd. Cruiserweight Joe Jones (14-9, 10 KOs) shocked the venue with an upset of local favorite, Vernon Webber (9-1, 6 KOs). After a very close 1st and uneventful 2nd round, the 3rd gave the fans much needed action. Jones began to pick up the pace and landed a hard left-right before the bell that carried over into the 4th. In the 4th Round, a powerful right, then left were enough to send Webber to the canvas. Webber was able to get up with pure heart to finish the round. Then in the last two rounds, Webber began to fight, putting together his best two rounds in the 5th and 6th. When the scorecards came in, the judges had it (58-55, 58-54, 59-54) all in favor of Jones by UD. Joe Jones had fought a lot of undefeated fighters on his way to Saturday night’s fight. He was rewarded for his hard work with this win. Webber will take a step back, but will be just fine. Webber’s chin, heart, and great management team will rebuild for another run in the coming year.
In perhaps Derick Miller’s toughest test to date, he delivered, again. Facing fellow Cruiserweight Dionardo Minor for a 6-round contest, Miller was up to the challenge. In the 1st Round, both fighters made cases to the judges to win the round. In the 2nd Round, Miller landed good punches and began to dictate a pace. In the 3rd, Miller was able to land powerful body shots on Minor. The 4th was more Miller, as Minor looked just not as sharp as his opponent. At the start of the 5th Round, Miller trapped Minor in the corner before he threw about 15 unanswered punches. The barrage gassed Miller a little. It showed at the end of the 5th and 6th Rounds. Minor fought hard in the 6th. If he had fought that way during the entire fight, maybe we would have had a different outcome. Overheard from Miller’s head trainer, Miller has been working 10-hour days in hard labor. This may have added to the slow output in the 6th. No matter the case, Miller won the UD (58-56, 58-56, 58-56) over Minor. The win, now, puts Miller in the spotlight for a high payday and high profile fight in the beginning of 2024. The win improved Miller to (14-0, 8 KOs) and dropped Minor to (6-3-2, 2 KOs).
Super Middleweight Hassain Bilal (6-0, 5 KOs) easily won by UD (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) over Corey Caad (4-4, 2 KOs).
Welterweight Luis Quintero wins by TKO at the 2:50 mark of the 4th Round over Jonathan Hampton (3-4, 1 KO). Quintero improves to (7-0, 7 KOs).
Super Middleweight Justin Johnson (2-0, 2 KOs) wins by TKO at the 2:26 mark of the 1st Round over Martinez Stevenson (0-1).
Minimumweight David Rojas wins by KO at the :46 second mark of the 2nd Round over Cameron Vallier (0-1). The win improves Rojas to (4-0, 3 KOs).
Middleweight Ardarrieon Williams (1-0, 1 KO) wins by TKO at the 1:04 mark of the 1st Round over Brodyx Gilman (0-4).
Joshua Pagan had a great performance by winning a UD victory (60-52, 60-52, 60-52) over Super Lightweight Braulio Rodriguez (20-8, 17 KOs). The win improves Pagan to (9-0, 4 KOs).
Welterweight Kewon Burns (4-0, 4 KOs) wins by TKO at the :52 second mark of Round 1 over Floyd Russell (0-1).
Welterweight Justin Lacey-Pierce (2-0, 2 KOs) wins the :48 second mark of Round 1 over Lo’Vonte Towns (0-5).
Super Middleweight Christopher Thompson (1-0, 1 KO) opened the night with a 2:13 TKO in the 1st Round over Marques Flowers (0-1).

Showcase / Handpick / Set Up gone wrong. This was supposed to be easy work for Vernon Webber. Joe Jones, instead, flipped the script. To the chagrin of Mr. Webber. Stay away from the partying, the pot, the drugs, the cigarettes, the alcohol, the vapes, and even McDonalds. Stay in the gym, and train as if you want the world championship and the gold and money that comes along with it. Fame does not pay the bills, until it is building up a FOLLOWING. A client base that helps you GET MONEY. Put in the work. Clearly, Mr. Webber did not, and Mr. Jones overachieved. Great job, Joe. A+. For Mr. Webber, F-.
First off Joe Jones wasn’t hand picked he is a tough opponent. We knew he was going to be Vernon toughest opponents he has faced if you checked joe Jones record he has been fighting very good opponents and has way more experience than Vern For your information Vernon doesn’t Drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes-pot-vape or even like McDonald’s. He has a job works 7 days a week and during camp we train 6 days a week anyone’s welcome to come and see how we train. With that being said we had a couple injuries during this camp which may or not had to do with his performance we are not making any excuses and from the 3 rd round on he fought with a broken jaw not to many fighters would have done that he has heart and was in good shape. He will be back on the winning track soon.
